- In todays video we we are having a quick look at 3 TV based automations that I utilise in my setup. These automations allow me to trigger content, find lost tv remotes and also view notifications directly on my TV.

When someone wants to cast a clip to the lounge or bedroom TVs, they select the cast dongle they want to watch it on, the television and amplifier are turned on and the correct sources selected by a Broadlink RM4 ir blaster, the curtains are drawn if it's day time, the television's ambient backlight switches on softly along with the downlight directly over the sofa, the two downlights on the left and right of the screen turn on, glowing with a warm, soft light, the adjacent kitchen lights switch off but for the led strips around the kitchen island and breakfast bar (unless someone was in there) and when the clip is either paused or stopped, it resets the room in stages so that if anyone wants to follow it up with another clip, it won't take as long to start as it does in the initialisation automation.
And the best part, if you were listening to a playlist or album on the room's squeezebox when the clip was first cast, it pauses the track and resumes it once the clip ends. Plus, if you've been joined by someone after the clip was cast, it will turn the Squeezebox volume down to conversational level upon resuming 🎧😎👍

If your remote doesn't have a ringer, like my Harmony remote, you can stick a mini Tile on it.
My favorite TV automation is to dim my lights to 30% when something starts playing and back to 100 when I pause or stop

These automation of inspiring me to use RF Id tags to change the source in my home theater.
I added few automations in my home theater to trigger based on the state of my denon receiver such as turn on or off the lughts, looking forward to see more automation ideas from you
I use home assistant with the Harmony hub to set surround sound mode via a Call Service: Send Remote command for each app we use in Roku. Some apps I use Pure Direct mode for Atmos sound and some I use Stereo mode. A couple apps I use auto surround since some of the shows differ in the feed to the stereo. I set the initial volume differently for each app using the Call Service: Set Volume command.
If one of my cameras detect motion, like a person on the porch or a car in the driveway, it will pause the Roku and switch the TV input to show the relevant camera feed and then switch back after 10 seconds and resume play on the Roku. If the Roku is paused, it will bring up the lights to 50% and shut them back down when play is resumed. So much can be done to incorporate the TV into Home Assistant.

I had my old TV automated as it had a hacs addon which gave me access to everything I'd need (didn't start things automatically or anything). I recently switched to Sky Glass and its back in the stone age for automations again.
Looking at the global search, wondering if we can ask alexa to play a specific show? Example: Alexa, play hitmans bodyguard on netflix.
Looking for it as using global search, we can only ask google assistant on tv to playa specific show.

This is great Mark! Have you found any way to force a show to play from the beginning? I love the bluey command, but if my little buddy doesn't hear the intro music he kind of freaks out!
FYI, this is working on my 2 Chromecast with Google TV's. Takes a couple of extra steps to turn on the developer mode, but got it done.
To turn on the Dev mode: Settings > Device > About > Build
There you press the select button 7 times and it turns on the Dev mode.

Another step that you have to take with the Nvidia Shield is to enable network debugging as well under development options.
Hi Mark, good one, do you know of a ADB Command for playing the last show or program on the TV that was interrupted by a doorbell press as an example? thank you

I use Plex and when it works it's great but half the time I got a notification on the TV that it can't play the content.
But anyway when it is working I have it set up so that when we turn on night mode it checks the sensors under our mattress to Make sure no one's already in their sleeping and if not part of the automation turns our TV in the master bedroom on and plays a random episode of Seinfeld on Plex. If I'm not sensed home it then plays a random episode of Frasier. If either of the sensors under the mattress are tripped it then won't turn the TV on.
Thanks for another great video, might be worth nothing that on a CCWGTV you not only need to enable developer mode but you also need to enable USB debugging as well as otherwise HA will not connect.

@@MarkWattTech Now if its not too much to ask, can we have some ADB commands to load up specific programs from the UK providers like ITV & BBC apps🤣🤣
Not mentioned in the video, but make sure you enable Network Debugging (ADB) in the Developer menu, otherwise the Android TV integration in Home Assistant won't configure/find the device.

I think it was in an unreleased video. Sometimes I’m not happy with final videos and don’t release them. I used templates for my washing machine sensors though.
Mark, thanks for this awesome tips. I'm using a Firestick and it's not quite working so I'm wondering if you know if I need to change anything else in the code. On the Netflix one no matter what program ID I enter it plays the same movie (The HItmans Bodyguard). The Disney one doesn't work at all (I'm thinking maybe goes different search function than Android TV).
Netflix seems to work with my Firestick, but not the Disney or any search.

Awesome thanks for the video! When I tried to do this with my TV Shield Pro, with developer options on, unfortunately after I press submit with my IP address it says "failed to connect" almost immediately. Bummer.
go back into developer mode and enable networking debugging then try the process again

It doesn't work for me well. Sometimes it just start Netflix with movie on screen but I need to press play. Sometimes is fine. I am using Shield Pro. Also if Netflix is currently playing something and I send command to play something different never works. Is going back to shield main menu or is turning on previous played app. Any idea?
Random question, I'm new to using home assistant so sorry if its a silly question but is there a way to make ADB commands save into the list of sources once you have the android tv integration set up? Or is there a way to add the apps from my tv to the sources list?

Not 100% sure what you mean.
Do you mean can you save a command for an app?
If you meant saving the command for say switch tv input or open a set app etc you can do that by saving the command in a script.
@@MarkWattTech that's exactly what I meant but I'm unsure of how to do that
@@karlmee1234 the best option would be to create a command you want to use as a script .
E.g. open netflix.
You can then call that script in an automation or if you wanted to just use it on the dashboard and be a little creative you could create a button and have the button press call the script. You could use a custom button and actually have the Netflix icon etc.

Can we import your command text into a script and save it or do we have to follow the gui script option? You couldn’t do a video on adding your Android TV commands to scripts fir us newbies could you?
I have successfully added my Google TV and it shows the correct sources when displayed as a Lovelace card. However, when I go to developer tools and select adb commands, the target where you choose the device is empty. Tried restarting he assistant but still nothing shows. Anyone know how to fix this as I can't issue commands. Thanks

@@MarkWattTech they say InputMethod:). I think there is a GitHub about it. Haven't found a solution yet. But that's what it says instead of UA-cam, Plex, etc for what is running

If I decided to create a triggger or voice command to watch a specific Netflix show. How would this work if there is multiple profiles on Netflix?
With Netflix it’s a bit of a pain as content will just play on the last profile used. If you want to ensure a set profile is used you could send a series of commands
E.g:
- open netflix
- up arrow, right arrow, select
- play chosen content
The commands would simulate the profile change (hope that makes sense)
Can you have an rtsp stream play in a small (notification) window ?
Sadly not with the notifications I showed.
My Sony TV with Android doesn't seem to offer an option for Developer Options. They must be customizing Android for their use. Still, good video - clear instructions.
On some tvs you have to enable the developer menus by entering a code or repeatedly tapping on a section of the menu. May be worth a Google :)
On Sony Bravia, to get the Developer Options (where the ADB Debugging switch is), you first need to go to Settings/About, scroll to the bottom and click Build 7 times.
Will the play media work on LG WebOS?
Ive not been able to get that to work, so I dont think so. Get a Chromecast.

Do you mean to send a command as if it came from your voice (e.g open my photos app) or do you mean to get a text to speech notification?

In the example code you just need to swap the text to your own command. So remove "Play Bluey on Disney" to whatever you want the search to do.

I created a video on Casting using HA. Thats a great option. You can also use TTS to have audio notifications and announcements.

This is great but... i want to run a script with command: "{{ command }}"
But i want to input this command.. typing from dashboard card ...( may be is their any text search card somthing)
What ever i type should get into scripts under commands ..
I want to do this to add those lines into your google open app command ...
