Thank you for the cost breakdown. I was born and was raised in Ethiopia and at age twenty two I left for the U.S. a long time ago and when I travel back to Ethiopia I ask my Ethiopian friends the cost of living and they tend to not volunteer the information as you do. You taught me a lot and I appreciate it. If you can in the future, can you work on a video about wages an average person makes there and what a liveable wage should be to make ends meet. Thanks
Living cost is also rising up by double here as well need to be much wise on spending money.I think it is global inflation as a result of the Lockdown.stay strong queen Desta you really are doing Great
Thank you sm for these type of videos I’m ethiopien but was born and raised in Saudi Arabia I can’t wait to go to my home land and live there but I can’t lie im scared lol, it would be great if you could do an update caz the cost of living there got even more expensive at least that my sisters says
this video IS a good breakdown of living in Addis. I'm an Eritrean, hoping to go to Addis later this year for an extended stay. Dreaming to move there as well in the near future.. So, D, just bring the videos, sawa sawa ?
Thank you for that great video. That really gives me a good perspective of the cost of living there in Ethiopia. I have been considering leaving the United States in a retiring abroad someplace. I have considered Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. Simply because the cost of living is less expensive for me due to the currency exchange. It seems like 1500 to 2,000 US dollars would be adequate to live a comfortable lifestyle. Could you please cover some information about medical care? As an older gentleman medical care of course is important to me. How do you take care of your own medical living in Ethiopia?
Making shirk is very very easy and fast you should buy a magogo to cook injera.. buy 25 kilo teff and have it grounded to powder - learn the mini van taxi routes it mad cheap and safe - stay aware.. bobolino are delicious breakfast street food and cheap and chai is only 2 birr max from the thermos ladies ... but start going to local street markets for bulk items veggies only rich people go to supermarket stores...
When I left Ethiopia 19 years ago to Australia 1USD was 11bir if I can remember, and now 1USD is 40 birr. A lunch was 10 Birr and now I think from 500-800 birr. The population was 57 million and now around 110 million. God everything is shocking and different.
In 2007 the population was 75 million. 1€ B12 Having so many young adults means that with few jobs around anyone can be exploited. I spoke with a young sales man 2 days ago. He earns $60 a month. 6 Day week. 10 Hours a day. Shocking.
Think this way if food cost you $1 but if you cook it’ll cost you 50 cents but imagine preparing Ethiopian food is time consuming. It’ll take you 2 hours. I suggest you are better off buying your lunch for a dollar and editing your video in 2 hours and make $10 dollar. You’re better of doing the later. Consider it and see if that’s true for you. 🙏🏼🦋❤️☮️
Now it’s februari 2023 and everything has gotten a LOT more expensive. Many daily things 2x and i mean in hard currency, compared with 1 - 2 years ago. I, Dutch and been coming here very frequently, 16 years. I’m shocked and can not understand how people survive. Many of daily household goods and food are +- 30% higher then in my Netherlands where middle class people make nett 4x more money and due welfare system need to pay less, or nothing, for schooling and medical costs. Only transportation and electricity is, for me, still a lot cheaper.
11 birr increase within 9 months, not a good sign as a place to settled in. I continue to recommend u to keep using these private ride services, not bc of the language barrier but for security and ease of capturing contents while traveling. The train might sound like modern and unique but it's usually crowded and upsetting. I think the wifi is less reliable than the 799birr data package. When the wifi line faces problem or gets disconnected, u have to file a repair request and wait in-line. All in all, I see that the prosperity party leading eth, isn't really prospering immersed in inflation.
Basically inflation. I think its all around the world.. We are seeing food prices going up here as well
A factual, and detailed breakdown of expenditure, missy. Thanks!

True.
you are right ! Preparing food is the best way whenever you live in Ethiopia!
The instability in some regions of Ethiopia has played a flipping contribution for the inflation. I hope everything will be alright.
