I remember being entertained for hours just saying things backwards onto a recording and reversing it in Sound Recorder, or pitching my voice up or down. Those were simpler times.
I love this channel! Have you ever used Windows 3D Movie Maker from the mid-90s? A 3D animation program made for kids. I made some absolutely unhinged garbage on that thing back in the day, and made my parents suffer through it over and over.
I had a demo of Windows 3D Movie Maker, but not the full program! I bought it recently though and have it queued up for a future video. I’m really excited to play with it!
So many fond memories of when I first started editing videos and images as a kid, just for fun. Nowadays it's what I mainly do. This is one of those channels that I'm going to be proud to be one of the fans before it blows up and gets big. I just love your videos and editing style. Keep up the great work!
I use a voice recorder app, while playing my harmonica on my phone. Its pretty cool what a person can come up with. Because of what filters they can run it through.
The amount of hours I played with this program and my little beige stick microphone to speed up and slow down my voice until it stopped sounding human. Thanks for making this vid, I needed a bit of nostalgia
We definitely didn’t have a microphone for our pc that early on, so I never used this personally. For the earlier Windows (98 I think) I just remember playing that screensaver maze game and plenty of Freddy Fish. Good times as a 5 year old.
Oh gawd, this is relatable! Memories of creating recordings of speech phrases, with mouth stuffed with sugar for effect, and then playing it back to some poor random person being the target of prank calls. And I so agree with this software being a gateway drug into pro audio.
I love this! What my friend and I would do in windows 98 in order to do overdubs was to set the recording device to "What U Hear" and then, in the playback settings, unmute the mic input on the soundcard so our voices could be heard through the speakers. Then we would start a midi file in media player and sing over that and it all got recorded into Sound Recorder.
I used to love this thing. Even figured out a way to sample music with it. Must have just played the samples from an external speaker and ran it through the mic. So fun!
I loved Sound Recorder. I remember using it to create an audio interview of Alvin from The Chipmunks where I played the role of both Alvin and the interviewer. Fun times.
So glad I recently found your channel. All around amazing editing and style. Reminds me a lot of MattKC in the way you deep dive into a fun nerd niche.
My brother and his friend would capture sound bites from Ace Ventura and turn them into Windows alerts. At shut down, it'd go "Take care now. Bye bye then."
Memory unlocked!! I remember taking finding all the songs I knew with the word “Stop” in it, and recording just that part, and using it as my windows error sound
Excellent Harke! I grew up with an Amiga 500 and a sound sampler in 88, didn’t try my first win sound recorder until win 3.11- fun times - a-law, u-law encoding - I want telephone quality 😂
Another great episode! Using that multi-track recording method could be a good effect to fake an old recording? Hmmmm. I think that by the time Microsoft was taking away Sound Recorder's options, Audacity had already come out and was gaining the market.
i used the old Mac version of sound recorder to record fart sounds and then replace all system sounds with those farts sounds. this was at my school's computer lab on all 30 computers. the teacher was not impressed
I wonder why you no longer use Windows as your main OS. Also, why don't you experiment with higher camera framerates like 48, 50, or 60fps? Your videos would look INFINETELY cooler!
This channel is a gem
thank you so much!

I miss those days 🥹
Fond memories of saying the lyrics of Another One Bites the Dust in Sound Recorder and then listening to the backwards "secret message".
I’m so mad I forgot about that one for the video!!
Thumbs up for SPATULA CITY!!! :)

Your channel is awesome!
Thank you so much!

Sound recorder is the reason I do what I do now. Full time musician and producer.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane! I remember using Sound Recorder to make a 10 minute long 4-layered Iron Chef parody.

I love all the workarounds that were found to get around the limitations!!

I used to make AM radio shows on my recordable cassette tapes on my home stereo. My favorite was speeding it up as the chipmunks.
Speeding it up was always my favorite effect too!
@@harkeofficial Alvan & the chipmunks were popular in the 90s.

The editing quality of your vids made me think you are a much bigger channel than you are. Great work!
Appreciate that! Thank you!!

I vividly remember when I discovered Sound Recorder in 2002.
i spent SO MUCH TIME playing with sound recorder. what a banger. then i discovered sox on linux!!
I remember recording the songs from the Tony Hawk soundtrack with this, because I didn't know how to extract the music from the game files 😅
Yay! My first DAW!
Me too!!
Love yer vids harke
thank you!!

I still wonder what the reasons were behind removing the features for Vista…
@@harkeofficial Probably to stop people from playing with it at work. They spoil all the fun.
MY RECORDING OF OLD MC DONALD WAS Platnium At the tea party
I rinsed the living shit out of Sound Recorder; it was all we had.

So Abstract hipster music or Gabber spliced beakbeats
I love this 🤣
I was worried this topic would be too boring, and so I’m very happy you enjoyed it 😅

Is it just me or is there a weird humming/buzzing noise in her microphone when she talks?
No, I was having issues with my microphone. Sorry about that! I fixed it afterwards, but I had trouble removing it for this video ☹️
@harkeofficial dont be sorry! I only noticed it because my headphones were turned up. A few notches down and its was allllll goood
eat the microphone
