Gustavo worked on a movie with Heath Ledger called Brokeback Mountain, there at the end there's a similar scene to Ellie's. Weird coincidence but I'd thought to mention it. It's pretty hard to go through people's left over things, and to find out things about them even though they're gone
When you see on Joel’s bedside table he was reading A Space guide for idiots… even the last moments before his death, he still tried to connect with Ellie. It’s these amazing tiny details which really breaks my heart 💔
