- Chinese utes like the GWM Ute have always offered attractive price tags but sometimes fall short on quality and substance when compared with more established players in the market.
But is that still the case? As Robbo discovers, the affordable end of the ute market is changing for the better and the new GWM is a worthy addition to the segment.

This ute is huge.. it pull up next to my bt50 and its higher than the mazda. It certainly got presence. It looks good on the road.
Chinese car is getting better
@@iggy5347 exactly, the only problem is that people are trying to escape that fact.
Indeed. I parked next to one in my mitsubishi triton and i thought rick moranis had shrunk my car.
I think it covers evertyhing for a damn good price.
@Anthony Farrer how so???
Picked up my Canon L 6 weeks ago , very impressed overall, Reviewers are not mentioning the Triton motor which GWM build for Mitsubishi or the German built ZF gearbox (goes in BMWs or Bosch powertrain , this ute is pretty good , downside , gutless aircon , inferior radio and speakers and i
find myself permanently driving in sports mode so as not to fiddle round with the flappy paddles ,for the the price i can live with that !
hi mate i took one for a spin today ,lacking power coming from my bt50 but not at all sluggish,i was pretty impressed ,one thing that annoyed me ,glare on the dash made it hard to see dials ,the digital speedo screen is nice and bright but goes black after a set time, is there a setting to allow centre digital screen to stay on full time and not go to sleep??
I dint know delivery’s started
Hi Darren,
Would you recommend buying one, they seem great value..
Glenn
Nice
You didn't mention RUST. Rust Magnet. Make sure the warranty cover rust.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful beasty looking ute on the road wow looks amazing front n back although I would’ve liked it if they had the same company logo which is on the back on the front too
Yay, this segment needs some more competition.
Not every bloke can afford a Hilux or Ranger. Mitsubishi and Isuzu are decently priced, but I agreed we need more variety to level out the pricing and competition
Another thing worth noting is the payload is 1050kg, more than the navara, ranger, hilux, triton. the bt50 has a 1090 though
Brilliant Ute starting to see a lot around as Ranger ages but the Ford’s price is ridiculous given its basic spec
Good honest review. Thankyou.
I love mine owned it since may 2021 and have absolutely no regrets it tows my campers like it wasnt there
Great review. Thanks
Excellent review
Apparently you can’t adjust the volume in reverse and when you open the back door at night the interior lights don’t come on. Not major issues but I like to see what they’re like after 300kms.
To Chinese automakers, Australia is a tiny market. These things are selling really well in China, the biggest auto market in the world. People are taking them to China mountainous west, with some of the toughest terrain in the world.
Remember when a work truck was simple basic & affordable. Yeah sometimes that's all you need.
Yes not some heap of shit bit of plastic
Aren't you that kid that was calling it a car from the 2010s in one of the videos...
Essa, picape parece ser muito boa e o jogo de rodas é muito bonito, faltou o Wi-fi abordo.
I went to the car dealer saw one these its huge probably bigger than hilux and ranger
Is longer by a little.
Good choice
It will do well in Africa. Other are over priced.
when are you going to reveiw the cannon x want to know if its worth the extra money for what you get
Spoke to the dealer and Apparently if you order the Cannon x for a March and beyond delivery it comes with a factory fitted sunroof at no extra cost.
@@glenthompson6358 hi glen can you tell me what dealer that was cheers john
Wanting the lockdown to end so I can compare the L and X models side by side
This and the Tank share the same platform. That makes this a beast!
For the options, excellent gearbox that makes up for the small motor, how it drives, the 7 years unlimited warranty, plus the price, like what are you going to worry about ? No brainer
looks good
It will do an awesome job around mining sites as well!
looks amazing
Where can I buy the gwm cannon in Australia for 37k ??
Yeah I’m asking the same, must of gone up they’re $43k now
Amazing
I drove one from Taree to Sydney, it drove OK but is definitely SLOW and struggles to sit on 110ks up hills
In China they recently brought out the GWM cannon electric and it’s incredibly fast off the start. It’s like a Tesla but a Ute
yes it look good but it come down to How long this chinese ute will last, that is my Qtion??
Dint the steed even tho crappy still running ? I’ve seen few
I've still got a 2013 V240. It's only done 80k, but it's running well, and now it seems they've taken the company more seriously
@Anthony Farrer Anthony. You obviously don't like these vehicles, so how about telling all about your personal experience with them?
@Anthony Farrer you really want one don’t you that’s why you can’t stop looking at the gwm 🤣🤣🤣
need a bullbar and a lift kit for this to sell well in Australia.
should not be selling at all! Each dollar paid goes to prop up the Dictatorship of China because there is no private company in China except tentacles of the Communist party

@Anthony Farrer So on what basis are you calling it a death trap?

They should run this diesel engine in their Haval H9, they do in Europe but not here....
How can you turn off lane assist permanently
It's great car! I'll would like to bye it!
Need a better engine that will bring it to another level, but for what u pay for its very decent.
you know what i dont like about these reviews .....they dont have the car for long enough and they dont really flog it so we can see if there are any down sides .....hope to see a better review soon..
put bull bar , two inch lift , winch , roof rack , radio , rock slider and 33 inch tyre still cheaper than ranger and hilux . When China start making something other traditional car makers must reduce the price.
Are you Daniel Daniel?
Are you high most Aussie utes don’t come with all that stuff so this is actually a good deal just gotta see if it’s reliable
@@uwulol19 all that stuff doesnt make unique .... its looks a copy so it will stay a copy even has all the good stuff.... Huawei has all the good stuff but it doesnt me its an iPhone...
It's full time 4wd.
You would be foolish or extremely patriotic not to test drive this if your in the market. A great match at Bunnings loaded with goods from the PRC.
Well you can't fault China for Australia not making things. Look where car manufacturing went, and that's well before Chinese cars came to Australia.
Just don’t get the front emblem that looks like a gaping bum hole
Tell me why i should to buy this Chinese car (GWM/MG) as I’ve heard that their parts will takes months to get in Australia and most the review’s about them are always down.
Cheaper for More. That's how Japanese and Korean car started. Don't tell me earlier years Korean cars are reliable, saw too many problems from them. Same as the Japanese. But look at those cars this day.
I'm actually looking forward to see more and more Chinese brand like NIO, Lixiang, link&co, etc in Australia. Nio,
I've had a GW for 9 years and haven't had a single issue
Parts shouldn’t be a problem. They’ll be produced in Thailand this year, where the Hiluxes, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, and Rangers are produced.
Just buy one nob end
no one ask you to buy
I remember when the Navara used to be the best value for money, now they've all become greedy.
If only GWM offers a blacked out grill version without that massive Q and it would be perfect.
You could just get the grill wrapped.
Too good on too cheap price tag in aus
Looks best in silver.....I think.
What's with the crap music, just do the review
everything will be electrical in 10 years, who need a car runs more than 10 years :D
i dont care about power, and i only have 38K for a car. So I go for a Cannon L.
Let’s give Japanese car makers a lesson.
A lesson for what? Crap quality and unreliablility?
@@promxrippa "Crap quality and unreliablility"...that is exactly what your parents saying when referring to Japanese car in 1970s...

And thats without any negotiation whatsoever and a 10 yr warranty
Ah cool, cheers!. We have six GLX plus tritons as work cars and the interior on them are built very very cheap. The seats are worn out in under 2 years. The base spec cannon for 35k has better built interior and way more features than the GLS @50k. So pricewise the cannon isnt too bad 🤔.
Have to be hard up tight arse to consider smelly oil burning low capacity 4 banger in tradie trucks. However, cheap buying brings comprimises.
No just sick of paying through the ass for other makes 7 yr warranty unlimited ks I bought one for that reason 40k top of the line about 28 cheaper than the rest go figure
Since we are generalising, have to be a stuck up brand hore to be willing to pay 30k more with less warranty for a work truck. This is sometimes called the stupid tax.
@@simonwills6176 exactly why I'm looking at it.
40k is not cheap, its all the other dual cabs that are way over priced, 70k+ for a ranger wildtrack GET REAL ! I priced a new model navara for less specs than this and it was 65k. I remember when the triton was priced accordingly to the GWM back in its day and people said it was a cheap piece of crap, now look at it ... 50k - 60k plus
"Tedious!" Means boring gas-guzzling monster truck with an old-fashion grille that destroys eco-friendly hatchbacks.

That’s a tad racist don’t you think?
The ride is awful. It feels like when you hire one of those Budget rent a trucks to move furniture. Unrefined. Loud cabin, vibrates thru your foot and up your leg when u accelerate. The handling is truely awful.
Unbelievable so car enthusiasts are actually reviewing Chinese cars, never thought I would see a day like this….but who are we kidding here, anything for the pot of gold….I am sure in few years reliability will be it’s karma…

NOT CORRECT.. You said 37990 drive away and you mentioned leather included at that price. You dont get leather for that price. Its fake leather.. AKA NOT LEATHER.. Im not going to nit pick all the rest of the "facts" you presented but obviously they cant be relied apon as being accurate.
Sort your shit out. this is your job to report accurately, not mine to fix your errors.
”leather” doesn’t always have to be made of animal carcass. Vegan leather is cool too bro.
@@copplemeister sorry mate.. leather by definition is from an animal. I understand vegan leather as a concept. Have no probs with it but its not leather.
its imitation leather or whatever you want to call it. could have superior qualities to leather.. im not sure.. but its not actually leather.
THere is no shame in calling something close to leather by another name but if its good enough call it what you want.. not leather .
Hilux will still be running in 10 years this won't Chinese gear is cheap for a reason if you're on the tools you know the deal.
For the same price, you can get another new car after 6 years and get 6 more years of warranty.
Hilux will still be running 20+0year later not to mention solid resale value even at 15 y with over 200000km they still command a premium and are popular on the used car market
@@robertceroli3512 same price, new with warranty or years old out of date car. I think it's worth to try the new one with lots of high tech that could make your drive safer and relaxer.

They have copied well from Hilux and Ranger
Why, because it's a 'ute'?
2L......
No thanks
Anything above 2L your destroying the planet
Funny this got amazing interior reviews and then in the torture test with other utes it gets crapped all over. Thumbs down.
It’s pathetic to see Australia nowadays start buying Chinese cars. Australian should only buy products from democracy countries.
One day Chinese cars will be competing against the other car makers.
30 years ago in Australia, we were laughing at Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, etc for being cheap and not well made cars. Look at where they are here now.
And another thing, if we shouldn't buy things from China, where will we get most of our clothes from? Where will we get our iPhones and macbooks from? Where will we get most of our polyester from? Because they're all made in China.
