Tears in my broken heart
Shantaram was and is the best book I have ever read. Opened my world.
Dear Mr. Roberts, I'm Rain, from Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China. I am a reader of your work 'Shantaram' and I like this great work very much. Through this work, I learned about India. Thank you.
Hi Rain! Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your appreciation! Stay in touch and we're sending you blessings and Love & Faith, GDR Team
My goodness, Shantaram captivated my soul throughout. I've never been so wrapped up in a story, that's pulled on my inner most personal feelings, bringing them to the surface for me to face with a new perspective. I was sad, though, to know that characters aren't real, which is a testament to the writing, which is sublime.
Thank you so much Khaled, this is so kind of you to share and we’re so happy to read Shantaram meant so much to you ❤️ Sending you blessings and Love & Faith, GDR Team
Shantaram is such a balls to the wall mind bending beautiful universally soul stirring book that I cannot even describe it and articulate fully. I love this man so much....GDR seems like a genuine authentic human being who has transcended to some other plane that most of us can only hope to achieve in life. I cannot even imagine the battle scars that this man carries. Uffff and how he resolves the demons in his head.
I can't believe that you are here... I've read the Shantaram twice and I've given your book to my friends as a gift many times. Sir, I really love sending letters to people and I have many pen friends. I would be really happy if I can get a letter from you. Maybe you'll never read this message or maybe you'll never send me a letter, but you know; a man from a book has told us that "every human heartbeat is a universe of possibilities".

Dear Gregory, you changed my life with Shantaram, you've reached my heart. Thank you
I just finished reading Shantaram and absolutely loved it. Thank you for this inspiring piece of literature. As an expat myself, Shantaram became a guidepost for me as I navigated new situations in an unfamiliar culture that I cherish and was a pillar for me when I needed it most.
Thank you for bringing this story into the world, Gregory David Roberts. I can’t wait to read TMS.

Bless you Gregory David Roberts for sharing your immense talent in writing with the world. This is now my new number one favorite book. To say is was a great read seems hollow. Even though the characters were made up they came to fruition from your heart and life experiences and like all great stories they have a life of their own. I will lay this book down after reading it , but will someday pick it up and read again. Peace

What an interesting guy! Loved the book Shantaram . Having wondered the streets of Bombay in 1973/ 74 as well as a lot of India I was amazed at the ability to relate the unique language and subtleties of Indian communication to the reader. A Fascinating book by a fascinating guy.
Just finished your book. It was a 1 week depression treatment. This is some kind of common unconsious which treats you. Bless You!

Shantaram is the best book I have read! I am reading it now for the 1st time and I feel that the characters have become my friends. I read about Prabaker's death yesterday and I am still moved deeply about that situation and the power of fate. It is a great surprise to see how the Author looks like! Such a pure and loving man. I am your fan and will always be!! I would like to say such a lot of things but no words are enough to express my admiration! Love from Moscow (Russia)!!

My best friend and I from Lexington Kentucky...
Both read your book numerous times - we LOVED it so much, that we went to Mumbai because we wanted to immerse ourselves in Lin's world! We went to Leopolds 4 or 5 times & stayed for an entire 2 weeks - we didnt want to leave! Prabu was my favorite character and I was so sad when he dies.
How about Humphrey Bowers narrating your book? How great was he...after reading your book numerous times, I found the audio version and Mr Bowers brought everything back to life for me! Did you enjoy his work?
After listening to him read your book...I looked up other stories that he narrates - he reads ALL of Bryce Courtney books - have you GDR, read any Bryce Courtney books? If so, what is your favorite?

I haven't quite watched it completely but here we go let's watch together.
Your book has small details about the local life and culture and how the businesses run. Then I knew this was not just a fantasy. The author must have real life experience and deep knowledge about what he was talking about. Another thing I like was your positive perspectives in the story e.g. rat troop helped clean up the slum, a guy who beat his wife was punished the forgiven, people seemed to be nosy into your business but they were very caring and helpful too. Those things had warmed my heart and made me understand Indian better.
Hi Tipprapa! Thank you so much for reaching out and sorry for our late reply, we totally missed your comment! It’s heartwarming to read how Shantaram made you understand India better 😇❤️ Did you ever visit India? Sending you many blessings and Love & Faith, GDR Team
The words you have written to describe Bombay just exactly what I felt when I visited there years ago. But I can not express my feelings in such beautiful and accurate way like you do! Your writing just reminded me a lot about India and I want to travel there again! Amazing book! I don’t want to finish it! I think I’m going to read both in Chinese and English versions! You have such an amazing way of telling a story.
Hi Luke, that’s so king of you to share with us, thank you so much! Please stay in touch and we’re sending you many blessings and Love & Faith, GDR Team
David, for me, all the stories around the characters in Shantarm come down to one subject relentlessly: the mysterious but ineluctably beautiful nature of the paradox of life. As we read, we can see that all of your characters struggle with various conflicting elements of life: love and hatred, sacrifice and revenge, freedom but yearning for belonging, and anger but at the same time this unbearable haunting desire for reaching out, even trying to forgive our enemies because we know one cannot deny that we all are destined to suffer from the same damn conditions: what humans are: self preservation, fear of death, sickness and longing for love and friendship.
I know you said in one of your previous videos your favorite one is Karla which i am not surprised to hear that since as you said here, Karla is something of femininity in masculinity or vice versa, or kind but devilishly vengeful. Again this seemingly opposing contradiction within life, not only to her but probably to many of us here we could easily find within ourselves. Yet, if I am asked to choose one character most memorable to me, I would go for Khaled Ansari, the quiet and intellectual gangster, the man who fell in love with a woman whose people he was in war with from day one like God's curse to his people and as an extension of this fate, I guess, he naturally reached out to the psychotic Afghanistan Mujahideen and wept out of his soul when he had to put a knife into him whom he could solely understand because he had been pushed by fate into the same bottomless abyss of the curse of seeing his whole family killed and nonetheless he had to kill this poor soul for the sake of his other fellow human beings whom he loved. Maybe such paradoxical nature of our life is not our curse at all but salvation in the end just like when you thought you were just exiling to Germany, you were not aware that you were just doing the act of coming home to Mumbai at last: the spiritual home destined to you.
Wow Mountain Top, we love to read how the book inspired you; thank you so much for sharing your reflections! Please stay in touch and we're sending blessings and Love & Faith your way! GDR Team
@@GDR_Shantaram Thank you! my fellow Brother if I have the right to call you that way. I have no doubt that your life itself is the archetypal testimony of the existence of miracles in this world. It would have put me in a different place on this journey of life. I would soon meet you in the Spiritual Path. So long, my muse brother.
@@mountaintop421 ❤️ We here at GDR Team think that it doesn't matter when we understand certain things in life; it's more important that at one point we do and that during that whole journey, we have Faith that life unfolds itself exactly as it should. Didier's character is one of the best, Prabu, then Abdel Khader Khan, I have read the book five times now, extremely difficult to find another book to compare, my question to you is, was Karla a real person that you knew but changed the name and few other details, because you write about her so absolutely obviously in love with her I find it hard to believe she was not real, I read shantaram in Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, majorca, and Ireland, your a very interesting fella 👌
Hi I agree with you I’ve been to India over 30 times I’m English and I used to live in Goa. I also have a passion like you do and that’s what I loved about your book you really understood the shanty towns. Your book I found very insightful to what goes on in Mumbai but I must say there is another book the white tower have you read that? that was by an Australian as well and I don’t know how but he totally has the Indian mentality down to a tea and I don’t think Clive James really spent that much time in India so I don’t know how he really understands it but I’d like to thank you for your book thank you
Can I ask you a few questions?
Have you ever visited Prabhakar's village and family?
Are you still in contact with people from the slum? And with other friends from Mumbai?
If I remember correctly, you were caught in Germany. Why did you start taking so many risks when you knew you were a wanted prisoner?
