Can I say? I don’t care at all if characters and facts were real or invented… i simply enjoy with all of my heart and mind Shantaram. This book has reached the bottom of my soul.. i let the story guide me in every page, in every physical or mental place. It was the greatest trip ever. Thank you Gregory for your gift to the world. Ciao from Italy
Dear Carlotta, thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your appreciation; how beautiful you are so touched by the book ❤️😍😇 We're sending you many blessings and much Love & Faith, GDR Team
I read Shantaram many years ago and was completely spellbound by the vivid imagery and emotional depth in the story. I was right there with the characters all the way through their personal and challenging journeys. Lin, Karla and Didier started to seem like old friends to me, and I never wanted the story to end. When I'd finished reading the last page and had declared to my friends that Shantaram was now my favourite book, I was naturally keen to find out more about the author. I went online but all I could find was an old interview and a note from you, Gregory, that stated that you were moving out of the spotlight and taking some time for yourself. I was a little saddened by this news as I wanted to find out more about your life and what had inspired you to write, not to mention I also wanted more of your excellent literature, but I did respect the decision to take some time for yourself. Recently, I started writing my own novel, having been inspired by the quality of your writing, and this prompted me to pick up Shantaram again and read it for the second time. Once again, it did not disappoint, and once again, I found myself online looking for more information. Imagine my surprise and delight when I found out that you had started a UA-cam channel and you were still writing not just books, but music too. I also thoroughly enjoyed your answers to these questions which are making me think a great deal about how good writing and stories are formed. So, thank you, GDR, for the gift you have given the world. Thank you for escaping prison over the front wall and ending up in India where you found inspiration for your future masterpiece. Thank you for persevering when the prison guards destroyed your manuscript several times, which brings me to my questions, all on the same theme... Do you think that the story benefitted from being destroyed several times? Did the story significantly change with each draft manuscript? Do you think that the final version was definitively the best?

Hi Read Travel Become, thank you so much for your kindness to reach out and share with us how much you enjoyed Shantaram; that brings a smile on our face 🥰How super kind of you as well to have recommended Shantaram with your audience, thank you! Please let us know if you have any specific questions for GDR so we can ask him to answer it in his next podcasts. Sending you many blessings and Love & Faith, GDR Team
You know, Gregory, I began to think seriously about good and evil when I read your books many times. I think this is some kind of experiment with people (my personal opinion), so that natural selection would choose the best people and these people would find ways to improve life on earth
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's beautiful to read how reading Shantaram inspired you to reflect on good and evil, thank you again for sharing! Love & Faith, GDR Team
What's the relationshi* between consciousness & matter? Inherency. (?) What's the difference between good and evil, acceptable to everyone? Judgmentality. (?) No question about questions. But hey. I too once got mugged in India. Quite a blast!
I'd really like to hear you talk about why Shantaram and The Mountain Shadow feel like such very different novels. I felt the loss of a great deal of psychological depth in the second novel's narrative voice, and I wondered if this was intentional, if maybe a more "pulpy" second volume was part of the quartet's architectural plan.
Hi Philip, thank you so much for reaching out and what a great question! We have added it to the list and GDR will answer it in this podcast series on UA-cam! Blessings and Love & Faith, GDR Team
My "reaction" to the last two questions. I won't call them answers. 1) I'd like to believe that matter is a reflection of the Greater Consciousness. 2) To recognize/define Good and Evil we must give it a temporal backdrop of our world. In the absence that backdrop or the subjective nature of language, both Good and Evil cannot exist.
Dear Gregory, another question, both Lin and Carla seem to be leaders with a strong mentality, was Lin afraid of been in love with such kind of women, who possibly can be stronger then he is? Hello from Russia, big fan :)
Hi Alexey, what a great question, thank you! We have added it to the list of questions and GDR will answer it here on UA-cam! Happy wishes and Love & Faith, GDR Team
