I have an old lark LP guitar that looks just like that. Got on the goodwill web sight For 78.00 with shipping It is called a lawsuit guitar..😮 I replaced all the electrical stuff With things from eBay It's from the 70s made in Japan

No issue with wood etc. I swapped pickups out and have had it apart. Just the issue with the tail piece hole being "shimmed." While nice, still not the same quality as the Aldo guitar. I had that apart this week and noticed that they even sprayed the control cavity with shielding paint, unlike the LP or the new SG I got. My "experiment" with buying these guitars confirmed what I already assumed. It is really just luck of the draw. Why some guitars seemed to be so well built and others "thrown" together is a mystery. Shu has the Aldo Les Pauls available again. I might just order one more to compare it to the first one I got. That first one really is exceptional.
@@SmittysShop yeah, my aldo came with chunk of the back side off of it. It was stained over so I think it was just the wood they used had a notch or defect there. My oldest has this one and it’s been solid for him. The “custom” is the one that I noticed components sticking to the paint. I’ve also noticed it’s a different wood than Gibsons and it flakes a little easier. I had to be real careful putting new pots in as the threads could bump the side of the hole a piece splintered off. This thing plays like a custom les Paul. 🤷♂️ I could destroy the green custom and not care. I just want the blue/ purple aldo he’s working on to be legit. I’m getting build pics so I know they’re not rushing this. Thank god I asked for the made in Uranus knowing it would delay it! 😂😂😂 it’s just odd that the guitar is a guitar shape currently but no humbucker holes in it. 🤷♂️ I think this is where you trust the process. Glad to hear you’re mostly good! Do you plan on a vid with the sg?

It didn't even occur to me to change the headstock etc. It was a rushed decision, more to "test" my theory of Chibson QC based on my own experience and the dozens of posts I've read, etc. brought on by the Aldo Guitar. I wonder about your Aldo. Do they just ship one like that, even knowing it's damaged? I would think there is more risk of repercussions, negative feedback etc. on eBay vs. Alibaba etc. but who knows? Vid for the SG posts on Friday!
While that is a nice guitar I'd be more inclined to buy a used Burny Les Paul Custom. The Chinese made ones sell for around $300 USD. The older Japanese ones sell for considerably more.
It's funny because I have 3 Davison LP's which I swear by! Very well built guitars! I've owned them for more than a decade and they have stood the test of time! I have since switched to playing the Chibsons (after tweaking them) and am giving the Davisons a "rest"! It will be interesting to see how the Chibby's hold up over time. That will be a true test of how good (or bad) they really are! I can tell you this, I have some Chibson stuff that is NOT good at all. Poor craftsmanship, cheap frets that rust, etc. etc. The problem is the inherent "crap shoot" that comes with buying them these days!
@@SmittysShop I do have a "Chibson" LP Jr. DC with the single P90 at the bridge. I bought it used. I'd say it's on par with anything Epiphone builds. It's got the 50's neck profile too. My only complaint is that's very heavy.

the moral ethics of buying a Gibson for WAAAAY more than it costs to make is actually more of an issue in my opinion (unless of course you're reselling it for USA prices!)
its clearly a chibson...the pickup rings are the first thing that give it away, they are epiphone sized...i have yet to see a chibson that is a actual proper replica. but dare i say a good husk to put mods into...providing one removes that "Gibson" logo.
The plastics and the headstock give it away easy and logo binding is to narrow when looking face on I mean I have what you can call a true Gibson les Paul replica It's my 1989 Greco EG59-70 Les Paul made in the FujiGen plant in Japan....
I ended up giving the Aldo to my oldest. He LOVES it. I have yet to get my 3rd guitar from the guy- my custom Aldo. Since it isn’t a a burst, I thought a wildfire dark cherry. Your black beauty is looking good!

They sent me a pick when it was roughed in, and a week later, completed. He sent a bunch of close up shots of the finished guitar and it looks real nice! Time will tell!!!

Last we left it, I asked for them to allow the clear coat to dry before installing hardware- they just said clear coats were a must. Which I agree- but I’m replacing it all and don’t want it to be sticking like my les Paul custom anaconda from him. I wish I could post pics here. Once you get the new haesware on, they are solid guitars.

Morally & ethically, it’s not illegal to buy or own Chibsons or any other counterfeit items in the states, as long as you aren’t using them for “monetary gain”, according to the federal statute. Many of the sellers you deal with are middle men. They use different factories that make these & even will make you pretty much any custom guitar you want within reason. I’m wondering if maybe they have a distributor in the states so you can get yours faster, I’ve heard some of the eBay sellers do. All mine were direct from China, & most took at least a month. If you’re hung up on the fake logo & “made in USA”, which is understandable, you can ask them to customize it & have it unbranded or they can usually use your own custom logo. My last 4 I ordered were complete custom builds, & all had my custom logo & even said “made in China” on the back per my request. A good seller will even provide you with tuner styles of your choice, a bone nut, waxed pickups, & a US style Nashville bridge with no screwtop studs for little to no extra. As for the bridge in yours with the small Allen screw studs, I think newer Gibsons are coming with bridges similar to those. I’ve ordered about a dozen of these over the last 4 years, & I’ve only received 2 or 4 that wern’t great, but all were fixable.
For sure! This particular seller is in China but expedites shipping and they come UPS when they hit the states. He always sends a tracking number so they can be “followed” on their journey! The SG is the only guitar I ordered from them that I had built. Yeah, I should have slowed my roll and given some thought to the “labeling” but otherwise it was exactly what I requested. Ebony fret board, nibs, etc. It’s interesting to me because in terms of quality of build, the Aldo Nova Les Paul is exceptional, the Les Paul custom, equally nice but not quite the same, and the SG, just slightly below that. I think at the end of the day, even from the same factory, it’s luck of the draw. But….. in my opinion, it’s a low risk gamble as long as you keep expectations in check. Even some real turds I have bought in the past, I was able to make them playable with some sweat equity and upgraded hardware. At the end of the day, that’s part of what I enjoy about these guitars!

Agree. I’ve owned quite a few Epiphone Les Pauls and Flying Vs since 1989, and the new guitars are absolutely KILLER instruments. I also own Gibsons….a 2007 Goldtop Les Paul, and a 2023 Gibson Explorer in Vintage Amber (looks identical to a ‘58 Korina), and I grab my 2023 Epiphone Les Paul Custom P90 more than any of the others…..I installed a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Alnico Staple P90 in the neck position…..a dead ringer 1955 Les Paul Custom for CHEAP!
I've had the opposite experience. All my epiphones from pre 2019 have been great, the ones I've played of recent feel bitey, rough, and sticky due to the excessive finishing.
It's not crap. It's just the name you have issue with. If it was a different brand sold in your local guitar store, you would try it and see that it's a decent guitar.
