Thank you for making a very easy to follow video. I just purchased my camera and yet have to get my first roll develop but I can't wait to get the negatives back. First time medium format shooter here :-)
Got a GA645zi in really good condition recently with a working LCD. Only issue is that it can’t go to AUTO ISO presumably the sensor reading the film is damaged. Apart from that takes amazing photos!
I'm late to the party, but in another YT video I saw that only opening the film back half way (say 90 degrees) to load and unload the film reduces the stress on the wiring so the LCD screen might live longer.
2:15 HOW the heck it can do that ? as there is paper backing so it has to be front projected HOW ? how big are letters because this looks like proper future with some though put into it
I own the Fuji GA645 with the fix focal lenght, it's a great relatively compact medium format camera to carry around like a point and shoot. The lens is really sharp.
if you live in the uk there is a camera repairer in tonbridge wells called 1st aid repairs they can repair these cameras they replaced the ribbon cable and the lcd screen in mine it cost about £300 that’s with labour if anyone is interested.
I just received my GA645Zi yesterday. Gorgeous camera with a fatal flaw. The LCD is only partially visible. In searching the web I find this is a common occurrence. I asked several repair services for a comment/estimate, but received no reply. I called Fuji and they said they no longer support this camera. Sadly I had to return it.
Just bought one - my lcd is botched as well but I can sorta see my iso and aperture. Planning on putting it in program mode and using it as a top notch point and shoot film camera! It’s weird though, it doesn’t focus inside of the viewfinder (it’s blurry) but the meter off to the side that decides how far or close a subject is works great.
@@mossincorporated Hi, I just got one with a dead LCD screen and want to use it as a point and shoot. What is the default ISO setting? Anyone know how many times to turn the wheel to set 200 and 400? Thanks!
About a year ago, a repair company in Poland posted a YT video demonstrating a full repair service they offer for this LCD cable failure issue. They will sell you a replacement flex board to replace your broken one for about $100, or you send them the camera and they do the whole job for you for about $200. Watch the video. You will conclude that this is not a job which is worth doing yourself for that extra $200 plus shipping to repair. Shortly thereafter, prices on use GA645Zi doubled.
I got ga645zi with monitor barely readable, i accendently press the small red (120/220) button when camera is off, do i have to press it again to turn it to 120? Cool video by the way!
if you keep going down on the ISO, does it stay on AUTO or it goes back to the higher value? My screen doesn't turn on anymore so I'm trying to use it without it
Best video for use of this camera. Is it possible to shoot a roll of 35mm film with spacers in this camera? Or not because it uses auto wind / rewind. Any trick or go around to do this?
You should be able to use adapters and some tape to load a roll of 35mm film. It should work, but you would have to be mindful of the shot count. I don't know if the camera will try to roll up the film after 16 shots or some other mechanism, so you might only be able to shoot half a roll of 35mm unless you're willing to test the motors on the camera. I'd stop at 15 shots and then take the 35mm film out in a dark bag or room and roll it back into the container, just to be safe.
No. To do this, you need to buy a 52mm thread mount lens hood which takes a cap. In practice, I think most users just ignore the custom lens hood for the GA645Zi.
The way you loaded the camera, it resulted in a "fat roll". When advancing the film with the control wheel while loading, I would try to hold back the film on the other side to provide tension on the film to avoid a fat roll.
Best bet is to make an ebay alert for this camera and snatch one up as soon as it comes on the market, hopefully the seller doesn't quite realize how awesome this camera is. Also search small camera stores with online ordering, sometimes you can get lucky.
lock up the left spool button while loading the film so now the film is loaded but one of the buttons (bottom left) is out. Can I still shoot that roll or will have have issues? Thanks in advance!
I would probably unload the film and try to make sure all of the buttons were working properly. I'm always paranoid about my older, harder to find cameras breaking.
The viewfinder in the Fuji GA645Zi is separate from the main lens that actually takes the photo. As you zoom in or out the viewfinder view does zoom as well. When you hold the shutter button half-way down to engage auto focus, the framing guide in the viewfinder changes to let you know what your final framing actually is.
Hi. Someone lended me this camera and hadn't used it for many time. I replaced the dead batteries, but now I don't know if it has film inside, the counter marks 0. I'm afraid of opening it. What should I do? Thanks?
7:00 The rewind button for this camera is located on the bottom left of the camera next to the button you push in to hold the film roll in place. The button is black and small and has some circle and triangle symbols next to it. you'll Probably need to use a paper clip to push it, and make sure the camera is turned on when you do. Hope this helps!
The ISO settings for the Fuji GA645Zi are: Auto, 25, 32, 40, 50, 64, 80, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250, 320, 400, 500, 640, 800, 1000, 1250, and 1600. I believe the letter "A" shows up when you are at the ISO of the film as detected by the cameras internal sensors.

Thanks Jaime bought one and this video make it quicker to watch than read the book
Thank you for making this succinct and informative video - a perfect complement to the user manual.
Wow ! Very comprehensive explanation of all the features. Excellent reference.

I saw that too after I made this video, so now I always try to not open the back all the way when loading film.

Very well-done, for a complex menu/adjustment process.

Helpful for the GA645Wi too

Excellent. Thank you!
Thank you very much for your help!
Thanks for the video! Just ordered mine and will rewatch this when I get it!
Have fun!
Just got one and the flash isnt firing on any of the settings. Was wondering if there are separate flash settings that may have it disabled?

Yeah, my camera also has a bad LCD, but is still usable. I'll continue using this camera until it dies.

Is there any way to get the lens cap and lens shade on at the same time to put it away?
No, not that I can see, and I've tried. Normally I don't use the hood just for this reason.

Is this an electronic viewfinder that adjusts for the zoom?

@@PrimeStudios Many thanks! Already put a new film following your instructions, I'm a new y to medium format, thanks again!!
silly question but when using the self timer on this camera would you have to shoot it in full manual mode for it to focus correctly ?
I'm assuming you mean manual focus. No, when shooting with a self timer, you lock the focus when you press the shutter button to begin the countdown.
Hello! My lcd isnt working would someone please tell me what the iso choices are so I can mentally set my iso lol
@@PrimeStudios Thanks! Also will it go to Auto right away after loading film or is the very end option before iso 25
@@ericgavia It's the option at the very end before 25.
@@PrimeStudios Thanks!
@@PrimeStudios does it cycle back once you get to auto?
