Thank you so much. I've watched many videos and tried hard to install Express but every time the server name popup was blank and I didn't know what should I type there. but you showed to click on browse more and select data engine n select own machine name as server.

Hi Ritesh. Thank you for your question. SQL Server Agent is not part of the Express edition. You will need a paid-for edition or the Developer edition for that. Phillip
Hello. A very good guide. Please allow me to ask you to provide the additional details: Why to choose between Express Basic installation and Express Custom installation? You have provided both options but not why to choose one over the other. How much space would need for express, or developer (just the installation without da data itself). Hello Adrian. You would do the Custom installation if you wanted to alter any of default settings. SQL Server requires a minimum of 6 Gb of hard drive space. i couldn't find the object explorer when I first open mssms, even if i check the view tab, customize the window, still cannot find it, any solution please ?

For many years I have used SQL Server with Microsoft Access as the client using linked tables. That has worked very well for me. I am currently using SQL Server 2014 with Access 2016 on a Win10 machine.
I have bought a new win11 machine and I will install SQL Server 2022 Exp on the new machine. I have run the Data Migration Assistant and all my databases are cleared to install on my new Win11 machine on SQL Server 2022. I don't anticipate any problem installing SQL Server 2022 Exp and migrating my databases.
On the new machine I have installed Office Pro 2021 with Access. I need to research and understand the process of migrating my Access 2016 "databases" (which store no data themselves but instead interface with SQL Server via linked tables) to Access 2021 on my new machine and with proper connections to SQL Server 2022 Exp on the new machine.
Do you have videos which would help me?
If not, can you recommend channels which might help me?
Hi Toony. Thank you for your message. The only problems I've had with Access (apart from the change from Access 97 to 2000) is with the file extension. As long as both Access 2016 and 2021 can read the same types of files, you should be fine. I've opened Access 2021 and notice that in the "File types" dropdown box it has an option for "Microsoft Access 2008-2016 Databases". I would use that to open it, and then save as an Access 2021 database. However, always keep a backup copy, just in case. I hope that helps. Phillip

Hi Twtr. I personally would uninstall SQL Server, and then reinstall it. Alternatively, if you can find SETUP.EXE, you can run that, go to the Installation tab, click "New SQL Server standalone installation or add features to an existing installation", and then add new features to your existing SQL Server. If you want a version which includes that for your own personal use, then try SQL Server Developer (see my other videos on that version).
