This is an interesting film of the maiden season of the 1960 Denver Broncos team, which was coached by Frank Filchock, a former star quarterback of the Washington Redskins (1938-41,1944-45) and New York Giants (1946). Filchock's claim to NFL infamy is that he and a teammate were given a bribe to throw the 1946 World Championship Game. The teammate was suspended for not reporting the contact, but Filchock was permitted to play. The Bears beat the Giants, 24-14. However, Filchock admitted he got involved, so he was suspended himself indefinitely. The Broncos of 1960 and 1961 were best known for having perhaps the worst uniform in the early AFL.
After starting out 4-2, the Broncos fell apart in a big way and didn't win again the rest of the season. Most of the losses in the 0-7-1 stretch weren't even close.
Holy cow, the punt & kick coverage by these early AFL teams was atrocious. I guess it's understandable though, given where they got some of these special team players from, with the 150 or 200 man open tryouts. Interesting to see Tom Flores QB'ing the Raiders. Love these old films, thanks for posting.
Denver would not rise above .500 until 1973. 13 non-winning seasons including 12 losing seasons from 1960 through 1972. Since 1973, Denver has not had back-to-back losing seasons.
the broncos were the worst afl team ever. The last afl team to make the playoffs, in year 18. Being unable to post a winning record until year 14, and setting some horrible records in the process

The best the Broncos would do during their AFL era was 7-7 in 1962.
Saints had a worse beginning record try 20 straight seasons of no winning seasons I witnessed them all
