Hello Kris! Great video! Thanks for your answer! I took a trip to a Duesenberg retailer today. They had a Starplayer black... man... I felt in love with the tremolo as soon as I touched it! And as I have pretty small hands, the neck fits me perfectly. I guess I'll have to save money! 😉 Bye!
Hey Kris, you did a great job handling people who question how much you pay for a guitar. You make a living with one and spending your money on your guitar is your business. I make a living working on aircraft, most people would think I’m crazy to spend what I do on tools, but tool to me, like a guitar is a tool for your job, it needs to be quality and like you say inspire you. As far as a hobby, which is what guitar is to me, there are way more expensive hobbies. When you are in midlife and you have a hobby, they can look expensive to others, but to be honest, even my wife is supportive of my hobby. I work with guys that are into everything from watches, to cars, to boats, to home remodels, and by comparison, my hobby is cheap. Lol. That stuff is expensive. Love your show and as always, much love from Tulsa.
Kris, I am not so sure about your treble mod explanation: Like I understand it, the treble / high frequencies pass through the capacitor (and I never used a resistor for that, what I recall) form input to output. So, when turning down the volume the presence is still unattenueted (if you do not put a resistor in series to the capacitor) till you turn the volume completely off, that is: you shorten the positive and the negative. Nevertheless, I really like your channel and espacially your kind of humour. So, keep upt the good work. Much appreciated! :)
That string tree comparison between seafoam green Tele and '52 explains everything. On MiM ones it's closer to the nut. On Strats too. I just haven't had enough guitars in my hands to notice the pattern. Thank you!
Usually I don't like longer guitar vids with a lot of talking, but this one definitely is an exception. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge with us, Kris! Very interesting choice of topics and answers showing you really know what you're talking about. Rock on!
Oh yes, those bells. I used to live next to a church which bells where ringing every day at 6am 😪 One of the small issues of living in frankonia 😂 Great video as always 👍
addressing the last question: you can also put a resistor in series with the pot (which in itself is a resistor). If I remember correctly this means you get the sum of the values. So a 250 kOhm pot plus 250 kOhm resistor gives you 500 kOhm. That way you can give a single coil the 250k pot it needs and the humbucker the 500k that is suitable - with just one pot and an extra resistor for the humbucker. Or you simply get a dual pot with stacked knobs. 250k on top and 500k on bottom.
Or you could have a 500K pot and have a 500K resistor on a switch in parallel with the pot for the single coil, which also gives 250k but allows full range for the 500K pot on the humbucker. If you have a 250K resistor in series with a 250k pot, you will only have 250k of the 500K that the HB sees as variable - either the bottom half or the top half depending on the order of the pot and resistor. The only issue with having a 500K in parallel with a 250K pot is the 'law' (log or linear) of the pot will be altered. I can't remember whether it makes the slope steeper or more linear but it's one of the two.

Always a pleasure to watch your videos, Kris. Thank you so much for what you do! 🤘🏻
Albus. Band Yo Aaron, I’m doing good man, thanks! I hope you too. I can’t wait to put out next week’s video. 😉 Tons of editing left to do but man, I hope it’s gonna be awesome. Haha!
Hey Kris, great video as usual. Your answer about the HSS pickups failed to mention that there are dual value pots (I specifically know about Mad Hatter Guitar Products) that change to 250k on s/c pickups and 500k on bridge humbucker settings. The sparkles HB is pretty cool, hard to believe how good the coil splits sound, unless it’s just you, hmmmmm. LOL
Hi Kris, thanks for the video. With this video in particular, but also with pretty much all your others, I really like your delicate playing. What are your influences? Or should I say Who are influential players to you? If you‘ve talked about that in another comment time that I don’t remember, well, big sha-hame on me! 🎸🤓🤘
Chris, your playing and tone ,on your videos, are great. You are making that sparkly HB sound as good as good as the up market guitars, you use in your videos . Klasse mann.
one other tiny remark : for an ES 330 or ES 335 with an bigsby or duesenberg les trem ( like i have on my ES 335 ) with tuning problems you can also buy graphite string saver saddles , they will not alter the sound off the guitar so much as roller saddles do .
nice video, the way i balanced my Hss strtat was 500k volume and bridge tone, wiring the bridge tone only for the bridge pickup and the other tone from the middle pickup output in the switch bridging it with the neck switch output so it works for neck and middle this otne pot its 250k , bridge tone its a push pull for coil split, pickups Seymour duncan pearly gates and 2 Texas special, fat 50s should work too
Great video !!! Btw I don’t use strap locks as I once had schaller strap locks on my Jackson and one time the front strap lock just unlocked itself, luckily I caught guitar in time. From them on I use orange rubber tops from beer bottles
Really cool review Kris! But I'm really interested to hear how you overcome the squeal of the bridge pickup on higher distortion due to pickup output and ashtray. Or do you have any solution for that ? I am really not able to use my road worn Braid Paisley Telecaster with bridge pickup on higher distortion. ( with TS9 ). I love the guitar really lightweight as was an not telecaster player. But this micro-phonic bridge custom shop pickup or maybe due to ashtray, useless on higher gains. Even I've checked and saw that they properly isolated with fender pickup tubing and waxed properly.
Very good information, I own a gretsch g2222, and after I little bends is out of tune, so I’m going to improve it... with a Grover tuber machines, tonepros Bridge, all wiring (cts pots, switchcraft jack and selector ) and a pair of Arcane ultratron pickups (hard to find). My question is .. do you think this guitar worth the upgrades? I mean is the same amount that the guitar it self cost but with upgrades ... I really like the neck and shape and is made in machine but the body a finishes are flawless....
Anmol Singh Thanks! The only mod at this point is the string tree which I changed to Graph Tech. The rest is still original. It’s not too shabby, right? 🥳
Hey Kris! Loving hearing these morsels of expert advice. I have a question for an experienced guitar tech such as yourself: I've replaced the tune-o-matic bridge on my LP-style Harley Benton, and the posts are _not quite_ wide enough to friction-fit inside the exisinting post holes. They don't vibrate, but when I change the strings they are loose enough to slip out of the guitar body. Is there a way to "shrink" the post holes without filling and re-drilling? Do you think its even necessary/worth while? As I said, they aren't so loose that I'm getting any vibrations, but am I potentially losing sustain? (One idea I had was to coat the inside of post holes with some wood glue to "thicken" the walls up a bit, but I'm worried about sucking the sustain out of the guitar). Thanks for the videos and the generous advice you give us.
Hey Kris, have you ever tried winding your own pickups? I have way more time than money. Therefore I want to try different pickup types (hot rails, P90s, etc.) in my Tele for as little cost as possible. Love your videos, thanks!
Man, besides all your awesome proofs concerning "tone wood" etc., I really want to let you know that I like your PLAYING very much, too! A very creative and musical player you are! (*Yoda off) ;) And even not so much of a "non-shredder". ;)

4:48 This point reminds me of how bad I want a Lamborghini and how as I aged I realized a more appropriate vehicle. Like a Pontiac Fiero with a Lamborghini body kit and a great big Corvette engine, so I could drive it like a maniac and not worry about ruining A Lamborghini. They may both be very fun but And look “similar” the feel of a quality instrument cannot be matched by putting hot rotted pickups in a Glarry. I’ve only played exceptional equipment a few times (because I could not afford any of that) it put the curse of that beautiful sound in my head and I have been chasing it with cheap gear ever since 🤣🤘🏽

And that it is better to buy other brands cheaper, better quality? You're never going to say that or Thomann is not going to be happy. You have to stay neutral !!!
