It's lame that their conversation got bogged down in whether Twitter should be "a democracy". One guy owns the site, therefore it is not a democracy in any meaningful sense. Even if that guy tosses out the occasional poll - and even if he honoured the outcome of those polls - it would still have the structure and the values of a dictatorship.
I think Musk defenders prefer to have these big abstract debates about philosophies and values of the company rather than talking about details, partly because talking about details requires actual knowledge, partly because all of the details are terrible, and partly to keep everything in this hypothetical space where what actually happens is irrelevant compared to what *could* happen.

She was able to get to New Mexico, and after losing a large amount of blood in the car (three pints transfused) was treated appropriately by medical professionals there. She no longer feels safe. Her blood is on the hands of Trump, Vance and Cruz and they could care less.

Brazil is not antagonistic to Russia. Doesn't mean it is hostile to the US, even after all the coups and turmoil that the us sponsored in Brazil.
Brazil for 200 years tries (albeit with difficulty under the US influence and power in South America) to be its own thing and walk its own path. Always tries to negotiate and goes for arbitration in international affairs. And since the military dictatorship during the cold war, tries to relate more closely to developing nations like itself, the so called South - South diplomacy. It doesn't do that through meddling in others countries affairs, but trying to o business with everyone.

My family lived under Salazar dictatorship, we're commemorating in 2024 the 50 years of the Revolution of the Carnations that ended the dictatorship and restored democracy in Portugal. Before the revolution, many people were arrested because they had different political views, or it could happen that your neighbor would not like your face, and reported you to the Political Police (PIDE) as a communist, even when you were not. Many of these people who were arrested never returned home, they got killed or died in jail.
Nowadays, these new "freedom of speech keyboard warriors" complain on an open forum like the Internet that the government is robbing them of their words, that they cannot speak, and the crazy part is that they complain ON the Internet. If they were in a dictatorship they would not be complaining on the Internet. They would be afraid of getting arrested, and they would be arrested just for talking. They'd be more quiet than a mouse.
In the US, and practically all the European Countries there's freedom of speech. Unless you incite some illicit activity no police officer is gonna go for these people, none of them will disappear, they'll just be labeled heroes by some, and crazy people by others.
