Learning to use a tool not only makes removing the hook safer for the angler, it is better for the fish. I have used one for over 20 years and have had them on my charter boat that long. They are an excellent tool and come in various sizes. This tool can also be used to unhook deeply hooked fish.

I had given up on the ARC de-hooker a year ago, even after watching several videos. Your video is so much more clear, I'm looking forward to trying it again. I dread getting a gut hooked fish, and your hints on how to use the ARC with those are the best I've seen anywhere. I have the mid-size ARC.

so glad you posted this. I looked into these years ago and gave up. I can see the value for single hooks, especially circle hooks, but what about topwaters or other hard baits? I want to use these dehookers but don't know how to use them for that.
This is really not designed for topwater baits, although I use it on all my other lures. Treble hooks are a real pain to remove and I rarely use them. I have another tool I use for them that looks like this - www.maguro-pro-shop.com/?route=product/product&product_id=7511
It is not the same one I have but very similar. The other one is easier to use with soft plastics
Suggestion: twist the shank of the tool 90 degrees so it can’t lay flat. That way it will be easier to pick it up.
Can you show how to use this when you are using a lure? I am thinking that the lure body may be too big to fit through the little circle to allow you to slide the dehooker down to the hook itself. Thanks.
I have used them more with lures than anything else. They come in various sizes for different sized lures. The middle one I showed I use for jigheads with tails, soft plastic shrimp, jerk worms, and more.

Does it work well with circle hooks and non barbed hooks too ?
I have fished a time or two once when I was a sea scout and once when I first moved into Wyoming in 2020.

What about gut hooked fish? Is it useful or just cut line?
It is great for fish that have the entire hook in their mouth. You keep both hands together and the fish in the water. Make a small quick downward jab and it will pop out. Unhooked a few today like that. If the fish has it down in the stomach, it's not going to help much.
Does this work with circle hooks
It can but I find this style more effective with circle hooks - www.tackledirect.com/rapala-hook-removers-rhr1.html. This type does not do as well on J hooks inside or deep in the mouth.

How does it work with a trebble hook?
It is not quite as effective with a treble hook.
Every guy has needle nose pliers though And works great
they work ok on plain hooks, they do not work well with soft plastics or flies without potential damage to the lure. In addition, this tool is must faster and easier.
