I'm a Burning Man veteran... and that is amazing. But I also go to the Black Rock Desert when no one else is there and it is hard to describe... If you get out of your tent in the middle of the night and look up.. you will find yourself standing there for half an hour in wonder without knowing the time has past. And NEVER drive on brown playa... if you get stuck out there you will have to wait for someone to come by or walk the miles back to Gerlach (if you can). And be careful of the hot springs. You can get in some.. but if you get into TRIPLE HOT.. it will kill you. (Plenty of signage saying so). Worth the trip.

I used to do a lot of solo travel when I was younger (and single!)
I LOVED it! I lived in Nevada for a while and there is so much to see and explore. Life is short and the world is big 😊

And you've been inspiring and encouraging my solo trips ever since. I love being able to see your adventures on UA-cam, you're really good at it!!!! Sending you huge hugs ❤

I made that trip, about 40 miles NNW of Gerlach, in 2019 on a moonless overnight. Laid on the windshield of my car most of the night. It was absolutely breathtaking, the Heavenly realm & the silence interrupted only by the sounds of coyotes & the occasional owl hooting.

From where you were camped, you could have cut through Fly Canyon to High Rock Lake then out to CR 34 just passed Leadville Canyon. Good job on your return trip to back track off the wet playa to the Soldier Meadows Road. Like my comment on you IG post for this trip, there are many wonderful places to explore in the northwest corner of Nevada. Enjoy your travels, as having spent since 1972 enjoying where you traveled, I still have seen everything there is out there! Always be prepared is the best advice I would pass along, good tires, a come-along, plenty of water (saw your big jug!), and satellite communications or at least something like the Garmin Spot. I recently went the Zoleo route on my current assignment in Alaska, nice to provide tracking to someone in town and the ability to send text messages from anywhere with open sky... Explore on...

I was trying to figure out if I had to backtrack, but all accounts told me that road was terrible so I avoided it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d love to explore more of the area including the canyon, though!

There's actually a dark area in NJ. Its state recreational area on a state road but there are no towns or house or street lights, and in the middle of the night very few cars or trucks going by until day break. I saw a satellite photo of the whole state in its a large enough for great stargazing. At East Point in Southern New Jersey next to the Delaware Bay the Milky way can bee seen.
