I've always loved the verses and hauntingly mysterious sound he had dialed, in this song. I bought this LP at Maranatha Village in '78 along with a silver "Maranatha" ring I lost on a job 8 years later. I remember meeting with Chuck Smith in his office that same trip when I drove my little silver 914 down from Danville. Interesting times, powerful memories. I never thought any of us would pass on before the Rapture. RIP Chuck, we'll talk again -
To Darrell Jr. I grew up listening to your dad's music. A few years ago, I got a chance to speak with your dad. I messaged him because for decades, I only remembered one phrase, from one song and that phrase was "funky blues".😂 And "He Has Overcome" was the phrase that rang in my head over and over again...I was 8 or 9 years old; I loved that song! So when I messaged your dad, he laughed and told me what album that was from. When I saw this cover...so many memories came flooding back. See, my mom had passed on to be with Jesus and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God kept that very verse "He Has Overcome ", ringing in my head, for that very day in November 2017, when He called my mom home. That song and Mylon Lafever's "Stranger To Danger" are the songs that I reached for. Yes.. God is good! He knows what will be a comfort and when...
I met Darrel at Maranatha Village in 1979 and didn't know who he was but he had a cool shirt on and we started talking about the scripture on it, then he told me he was going to be in concert that night there at Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel so I went and enjoyed it immensely and bought this, his brand new album before I left.
I accepted Jesus at the alter call at costa mesa calvary in 1979 and THIS blessed song was playing, and I was crying, and set FREE from drugs and alcohol and worldly misery.God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ and Paster Chuck, Lonnie Frisbee,Darrell Mansfield, the christian kids at my high school, san dimas Are All GODS hands here on earth.THANK YOU All I LOVE YOU💜😇💕
Awesome! Oh, how many times in the 80s, a room full of people, all singing as one! Band would stop playing, then Darrell became choir director. None of that now, but sure lookin forward to when we are together around the Throne, praizin the One who has overcome..Hallelujah!!! Psalm 150
My dear mom raised me listening to Darrell...at 47 and having had to say "see you soon mama" last year, this song after so many years, means so much more to me...
yea Darrell and band always played this song for the altar call. Early days of Christian rock, I dig it. Darrell played almost every month at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 80s. I'm a big fan to this day. I still have my Darrell Mansfield band jacket, it is too small now , lol
Gotta be one of my favorite songs. I like this original version more than the one on "best of" CD. Powerful. Saw him several times in '80's. Hope his music goes out to a wider audience.
Hallelujah! Remember Church we fight FROM victory. satan was defeated at the Cross, so we are victorious in the Name of Jesus! So walk on in the glory of our great God and our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ-amen!!
My copy of this has major skips between 3:45 and 4:10...great to hear the solo straight through without putting pressure on the needle to make it plow through the pops. Fantastic songs, takes me back to high school in 1981 when I was first introduced to Christian Rock.
"Yes" We have Overcome! in Jesus name there is power in his Blood, there is Victory...Love this Song
Praise God. I still love this song. I am Darrell Jr so I grew up with this song. It is one of my dad's best ones for sure. God Bess
Wow, that is so cool. You got to hear everything live all the time.
This was one of my first albums as a Christian. I wore it out.
