There is comfort in the tranquillity of the trail. Town days/nights weren’t very enjoyable after Tahoe for me. Laundry facilities tend to be as reliable as WiFi sometimes.
Al, you are probably the toughest person that I have a connection to. I would never have the energy, stamina or the patience to accomplish what you have done and are about to do. I really respect and admire you and I would never think that what you are doing is something that I could do. Please hang in there and don’t stay in substandard accommodations when in cities that cater to long term tenants.
Thanks for sharing the hardships! I keep watching these thru hiking videos and dream of doing one myself one day, and it's important to keep it real and understand what to expect. Not only roses and skipping through meadows...
What a hike! It goes thru such amazing parts of this country. Enjoy every day of it! You’re so blessed. Yes it’s HARD, but even you wouldn’t continue to thru hike if it wasn’t worth it. Not even sure how many Americans have been in Montana.
Al, that has to be one of the worst motel experiences ever. The only way it could have been worse is if there were bodies stacked up in the hallways or zombies.
The AT was created in the 30's. No, not to a pedant, I get what you're saying. It is a great time to be hiking these trails. Right at the crossroads of them not being overpopulated, overcommercialised, but also having a huge industry full of gear companies pushing the boundaries of ultralight hiking equipment.
I didn't want to dox them based off of my experience alone. I thought that would be a little petty. All I'll say is, most people in America wouldn't be staying at the Best Value motel by Walmart, next to the interstate 😉

It is different for everyone. Other hikers loved Helena, but they didn't stay where I did.
The worst!!!! I understand your frustration. I guess being a trail angel and driving people around must help. I'll keep doing it.
Bless you. You help make a lot of hikers' lives easier.
hi lookout! we love you
💚😊💚
Love the content as always. Is the title supposed to say day 123?
Good spot! Changed it back. Thank you.

It's a lesson learned, for sure. No more crack motels.

It's another level, for sure. But, I believe the end result is worth the hardships.
What a chaotic evening/ night! I hope better days are ahead!
Totally!
Happy to see a vegan here🎉🎉🎉. Ty for your vid
Me too! Welcome!

💯
A thru-hike is where the juice is worth the squeeze, but the squeeze takes every ounce of energy you have.

It was just one thing after another. All good in the end, though. We're back on trail.
I hope you encounter a trail angel or two before the end of your hike for some good R and R.
Fingers crossed 🤞
30 pound backpack is a blast from the past, when there were no thru-hikes, just 10 day hikes that started with 42 pound backpacks

Do everyone a favor and name the hotel. That is unconscionable and nobody wants to support that kind of "business". Sorry for all your troubles Al.
