Thanks for the useful list as I'm revisiting the Game Boy library after getting the Miyoo Mini. There's so many games that its good to narrow down the ones worth playing. Especially the ones that aren't going to get modern accessibility like Turok. Would be cool if you did an updated similar list for people buying retro emulation handhelds. Like "top 10 gameboy/nes/snes/etc. games that were never made available again" for games that never got remakes or re-releases. Like Gargoyle's Quest on Game Boy or Illusion of Gaia on SNES.

There's a lot about Tetris that I think makes it deserve that spot more. For one thing the game play still holds up more than any game on this list. Even Pokemon Red/Blue doesn't hold up as well game play wise. Metroid 2 is one of those that people would look at it and say that it was "good for the time". Give this to a modern gamer who did not play it back then, and it doesn't hold up. Mario Land 2 is the same way to a lesser extent. Tetris on the other hand still hold up. While features like "Hold" have been added, the concept and core gameplay has remained the same. Graphical upgrades were just coats of paint and weren't needed to convey information better.
Final Fantasy Legend came out two years before that and is very clearly the progenitor of all monster farming games. You have monsters join your party and evolve by eating meat. It's literally been officially cited as a source for Pokémon. I'm honestly shocked it wasn't on your list. If you haven't played it, you need to. I was 12 when it came out, but I remember thinking at the time that it was something special and new.

For me it was Pokemon Red. My Grandma got me a Gameboy Color and the game. I also had the camera and printer. I've been having some Gameboy nostalgia and recently ordered an RG351V to enjoy Gameboy games on again today.
Gen 1 Pokémon is highly overrated. It's an optimized clunky mess. And incredibly ugly. I cut it a little slack for being the first in the franchise, but Gen 2 completely outclasses it.
A port? Man you could not have done DK94 more of a disservice. The first 4 levels are recreations from the arcade, but after that, it becomes wonderfully complex puzzle-platformer that preceeded the mario vs donkey kong series.
6 golden coins is so influential to the Mario we know today! It introduced so many new things like spin jumping, breakable blocks while spinning, Wario, Luigi, A SAVE FEATURE, etc!

Get a GBC and a backlight mod, either Freckle Shack, Midwest Embedded or... the other one that I don't remember the name right now. I know it's not cheap, but being able to play ANY GBC game is better than just being limited to only DMG.
@@Suedeash that's not a bad option, but depending on where you live, a GB Boy can be as expensive as a Backlit mod. Also, the GB Boy has a different screen ratio and it's not that nice to see. If you can get it really cheap, ok, but paying the same for worse it's not that good.

It's a great casual game, and my favorite version of Tetris with the best music imo. That being said, it didn't quite blow me away like Zelda and Pokemon. Still a solid gb game though.

There's no elaboration on what made DK '94 a handheld classic, it's stated that SML2 was famed for introducing Luigi, claiming that the Turok franchise is still going strong when we haven't seen a new game in fourteen years (and it was a bit of a flop). I love that you're helping to spread enthusiasm for a classic system, and the games you've listed are largely bangers - but it does come across a bit hacky!

I can tell you never actually played the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong, because what you're describing is the Arcade version. The Game Boy title wasn't anything like the Arcade version aside from the first 4 levels.
I've never expected this video. I'd like to see top 10 videos for SNES and N64. Pokemon on #1 was to expected and it deserves this position due to its influence. SML2 is definitely one of my favourite Game Boy games ever. I liked Kirby Dream Land 2 better than the first one though. I really liked playing "Game and Watch Gallery" on the Game Boy because it was about 6 games in one (mini games) and you could choose between and older version or super Mario version of each game. I'm pretty sure they made a 2, but this one I remember well.

Links Awakening is the best game, and it should be number one over the pokemon B.S. I don't know why it was so popular. I tried it, was nothing special to me. Zelda games are the most fun games, and I have played and beaten almost everyone ever made.
I wasn't big on Pokemon. I never cared for battle stops either. I felt it slowed down game play for something repetitious. Pokemon did cause mass, epileptic fits in Japan though. I suppose someone was bound to do it sooner or later.

Everyone makes mistakes but confusing wario with Luigi and suggesting that luigi was introduced in a black&white 90’s game reveals a level of ignorance in the subject matter that made me feel like giving up with the whole video... but then saying that Turok on game boy was ‘one of the first to feature dinosaurs’ is beyond silly. What’s the point if you’re just gonna make up bs and do zero research
And Pokemon red and blue ‘mostly played on gb colour’ when the games launched before the release date of the game boy colour... it’s impossible to be abreast of every niche but If its a subject area you aren’t knowledgable in there is no shame in sharing your script with someone and asking for feedback before filming. Shove it under a gamers nose and ask, did I make any obvious errors here?

Links Awakening is the best game, and it should be number one over the pokemon B.S. I don't know why it was so popular. I tried it, was nothing special to me. Zelda games are the most fun games, and I have played and beaten almost everyone ever made.

I wasn't big on Pokemon. I never cared for battle stops either. I felt it slowed down game play for something repetitious. Pokemon did cause mass, epileptic fits in Japan though. I suppose someone was bound to do it sooner or later.
