For example: where is Steve? Kei hea a Steve? Steve is sitting down, singing. Kei noho a Steve, e waiata ana. I can't give you an exact answer to your example but I was just taught that the e ___ ana structure can also be dumped in the middle of a sentence to show an action that is 'present continuous.'
