Hi, I have a, 1981VW Vanagon which is with me for the last 30 years and still going strong in South Africa. I had the air cooled 2.0 litre engine swooped for a Toyota 2.0 3ye motor with about 90 odd horsepower about 20 years ago. To date it runs perfectly, and it is my daily runabout. My wife is a paralypaegic and thus, this vehicle is ideal for transporting her and all her disability aids, namely the battery operated mobility scooter, a push type wheelchair, a 12v battery operated device to elevate and lower her to and from the vanagon seat onto the mobility aids. This vehicle of mine is very reliable, and I do a trip or 2 annually going up from Durban to Johannesburg, a single journey of 500 odd miles. This Toyota, engine has literally transformed my Vanagon. E N J O Y...... Bye. AHMED
Good work on the second bleed point. Every EJ swapped van or bug can benefit from one. Nice job dude, glad to see the owner bringing this thing back to its glory and improving it in a major way!
Thanks Pete! Yeah we really weren't expecting this project to interest us as much as it has, it's been incredibly rewarding bringing this up to snuff as it were!
Good point. The stock motor bleeds from the overflow tank, the rear heater core, and the front radiator. With a libby-bong style bleeder it's pretty easy.
Doubling the HP will do that ! Good idea on re-grearing the transmission, mine was running 3400 rpm at 70... bleeding is a PITA, did you do reverse coolant manifold ? I cooked my first DOHC subaru engine after 252 miles, think it was due to me overheating it while trying to bleed it.... rev coolant manifold on order, south african (metal bleeder) radiator to be installed, paid for wiring harness conversion (best money spent on this project)....soon to be back on the road....Mine was off the road at least 5 years and EVERYTHING you touch, needs work....arrrrrrr... I painted my 85 a few months ago....
This just what I’m looking for. I have an ‘84 and the 1.9 just isn’t safe. I’ll have to find a service like yourself to do the work, I’m just too old and way past the point where I can do a decent job.
Any chance of a rough cost breakdown. There was a lot of man hours in it. Excluding chassis, fuel tank, unrelated to core swap. ect. Thanks Love your work....Shad
i have a westy. with a 2.3 and its cool. the only problem is you cant always go where u want to because its such a hassle. this was actually an awesome video and i really hope to see more of this
if your possibly gona do a Subaru swap in a Beatle go wuth a H6 & Slap a turbo on it. waaaaay better than a EJ25 or EJ20 & WAY MORE POOOOOOWER. Mighty car mods already built a ej25 sti swap in a Beatle & did 10 sec passes in it & beat a Porsche with it.
Hey guys I love the work you do and the cars you work on. MOSTLY. I've been waiting for the S54 swap you've been telling us about since the S54 rebuild video. I've been waiting for lots of stuff you guys start to be worked on. I LOVE what you do and want to keep watching and recommend your channel but it's very hard when I only have "Hey they've been working on a VW van for a long time you should really check it out!" NOT! Come on guys I think you're really shooting yourselves in the leg by ignoring your bread and butter cars and builds/ Love ya! Please consider what I'm trying to say. Thanks again for your hard work!
Appreciate the support and advice. Will Sold is e30 m3 last year. Chris has his S54 swapped swapped 330ci that is nearing completion over at Zach's shop. That is the only real S54 content we have coming down the pipe right now. That being said. Many projects are being planned in the background and there is a timetable to finish every project that has been started before the end of this year. Covid-19 has really been killing us on the event side, we make plans to build a car for an event, round up partners that want to help, and then Boom, event gets canceled and car doesn't get finished. We have so many videos that just didn't ever got wrapped up last year. With all that said, this year will be different. Should have more consistent uploads, with a variety of cars (mainly BMWs), and at least 10 large events. We hope you stick around, have a great day.
That guy mocking your hand gestures at 8:35
Hahahah just noticed!
lol😂

Can you show or describe how you did the shift linkage adjustment please?
Looking forward to Bus-a-roo 2.0!
Did you do a video on bleed points and cooling system ? Sorry...I don't remember.

Great video series. What where your 3rd and 4th gear ratios?

Now after a year no regrets? Do you prefer the EJ25 over the 2.3 Gowesty?
That customer loves his van, has no regrets.

What did it all cost? We have an '89 Vanagon and were quoted rebuilt Subaru engine swap starting at 15K... seems like a lot.
This one was about $8k all in, parts and labor, but Will says that was too cheap for his labor.

Looks like that van is hauling A$$ - great job!
Why have the Germans consistently failed to create a decently powered motor for these vans???
You must love yourself a lot huh?
10 MINS OF BRAYING, WITH THE CAMERA ON YOU!
Vanagon owners want to see the mods, not you!
