1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Review Featuring a Subaru EJ25 Engine

- Thank you to Chris @ www.uniwerksde... for giving me the opportunity to take a tour of his awesome 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia featuring a Subaru EJ25 engine swap. UniWerks offers a number of products that make your Vanagon (or Transporter if you are from other parts of the world), much easier and better to use from day to day and in camping situations.
The original liquid-cooled flat 4 engine wasn't a powerhouse by any means. Being a heavy van and recreational vehicle, the 80ish horsepower that these had when new was barely enough to get it up large hills. Replacing the original engine with a Subaru engine from a 2001 Outback basically doubles the horsepower. Now, not only is the van able to get out of its own way, dare I say it feels quick?
The Westfalia part of the van is also intriguing. With adventure travel, camping and over-landing so popular right now, a Westy is an appealing option for those who seek time in the great outdoors. It's pop-up roof is both useful and iconic.

1983.5-1985 screams for the engine swap. An 87- sure has more power and is usually enough.

Like maybe an old school hot rod G-Body with a healthy crate motor that does great burnouts.
