Every time I see this festival, the songs, the people, the passion they sing and how they are "together" in such an event... I can't help but have a knot in my throat... I am not oblivious of your past suffering in Estonia ... and elegantly you defied, together won over the oppression put upon you... You all are victorious... it makes me proud even though I am Brazilian. What a beauty of your people you show through your Laulupidu festival... it makes everyone who has a sensitive heart to visit your country and be blessed by your beauty. Long live Estonia!

being on this festival is just amazing feeling , something magical happens there indeed also my family has very volpicated past , great grandfather died in siberian gulags and my family has done everything that I wouldnt forget the past , I am an history student but Estonian histry is still too depressing for me
@@HK-gm8pe I believe that this is an amazing experience. Your family is right. If we forget the past we will commit the same sins. What the USSR did to Estonia and Estonian people is a crime to humanity. That's why I appreciate your people so much. Even though being a small country, Estonia is a survivor. That's why I get so emotional seeing you all singing. I link all of this together. I understand how depressing it could be but please don't stop talking about it with the next generation. Somehow Estonian re-lived from the ashes and that is very important. Know how sorry I feel for Estonia and how grateful I am for the country it is today. Your people is beautiful!

I heard about Estonian's composer Alo Mattiisen just before and this music festival
I respect Estonian who have similar history to Korea rules by Japan until 1945.
All of the South Korean love peace and oppose domination by other contry.
Russia, China, and even USA must give up their evil intention to rule other country with their power. If not, world always be in kaos caused by them.

So moving... there is no way to let oneself to be taken by this hymn ... the translation is just superb ... the lyrics amazing and the quality of singing for such a big group is just astonishing... I wish I would have been there... There is something about these Estonians singing that just take our hearts somewhere that cannot be described easily! What a song! Thank you, Estonians... you contribution to music in such a suffering world is soothing for the soul! Thank you.

Note: The Estonian word “lehkav” changed its meaning over the century. When it once meant “smelly” in a good way, then now it means “smelly” in a bad way. Still, people often disregard the current meaning and sing proudly the words as they once were meant to describe the aromatic way the country smells.

@@karlkarl93 it was intentional. The Estonian word "lehkav" used to mean "fragrant", but nowadays it means "stinking". People just sing the original words out of old habit, but really they mean "my stinking fatherland". :)

I was there for the pure joy and magic that was Laulupidu 2014! Flights are booked, hotel arranged (book very soon as they are selling fast!), I’m sooooooo looking forward to being part of it for 2019! These are actually the original lyrics. The original song was written by Aleksander Kunileid (melody) and Lydia Koidula (lyrics). This one over here is a variation of that, written by Alo Mattiisen (melody) and Jüri Leesment (lyrics). But as it's a variation, both melody and lyrics are quite similar, though.
