She performs perfectly on Barry. Classically neurotic. Completely unsure. And totally committed to her part. Great casting.
The entire cast is brilliant. I love Stephen Root lol. Remember him in office space? “That’s my stapler”
Well said! Sally drives me crazy, but she just feels so real and authentic that I can't help but love her anyway.
sinkiy - Agreed! Root is a badass in every part he plays. Remember him (with Joe Rohan, no less!) in News Radio? From millionaire to stapler boy. “That dude’s got range...”
@@The_Primary_Axiom whenever I see Stephen Root, I cannot help not thinking of Denholm Elliott ! Tell me I am not alone XD
@@floatingsara Oh my goodness that was so long ago lol
Do I like Sally? Do I not like Sally? I don't know! Now THAT'S a good character
Charlie Joseph Her character annoys tf out of me lmao
@@justinsullivan5839 same I find her supremely annoying... she's just totally negative ALL of the time... took me out of the show...
fucking true man, but i think im secretly in love with her
@@rokeeffe91 How negative can she be? She's the one that convinced a murderer to try and be a better person by perusing art.
Yes! That's what I love about the show. The characters aren't black and white, good or bad. They're realistic and flawed. Sometimes you like them, sometimes you don't. They are like real people which is kind of rare for shows these days
I absolutely love Barry, but I feel like Bill and Henry get all the praise (which they deserve, as they are excellent!) while Sarah's work goes quietly under-appreciated. I hope more people treat her performance with the respect it deserves because it's an absolute lynchpin of the show.
I think season2 was her time. I did not like her character that much in S1 and it felt smaller. But she shines this season and she is finally getting her propers! Good for Sarah!
She absolutely killed it in that pool scene. She's so good. This show is so well written and well acted, I love it
It's not a linchpin. They could kill Sally off. They only really needed her for the first few episodes.
and now she is an emmy nominee! season 2 was her time to shine
well what you feel isnt always what is true, because ive seen plently of people talking about how great her part is, ive seen plenty of "i hate Sally but that just shows she plays it so well because it invokes the emotion!" as well as talking about how great she plays Sally and her performance is amazing. Ive seen praise all around. Even two years ago when this was posted.
The reason and way she naturally said "Do I have a point of view?" is exactly why she is perfectly Sally.
The character she plays confuses me in a good way. You think you don't like her, but then she does something and makes you feel for her. Great character.
The Michael Scott syndrome
Much like a real person
I love the character of Sally. I can both relate to her striving for her dreams, being a little selfish in putting herself first, and overcoming personal hardships but also hating some parts of the character at the same time - like when she acts a little too selfish (she pushes for Barry to help her with lines but then blows him off when he asks for help with his)...
That's the type of character that all shows should be striving to create - ones where the audience is like: "ahh shit that's me" and in the next breath be like: "ahh shit, I hate said character" but then after learning more about the character can be like: "I understand/can relate to this situation that has helped make the character the way they are"
I both kinda hate but absolutely adore Sally and I wnat the best for her but I also kinda wanna punch her - and I love that this character was written in such a way that I would feel this way.
Absolutely love that Bill Hader gave her various options to present at audition and I love that she took it so seriously! People who are this prepared aren't just passionate and talented, they understand hard work pays off even if the prep wasn't entirely necessary.
Seen so much praise for Hader and Winkler for this show (and for a good reason), but Goldberg just nails it on her role. I'd love to see her in more roles in the future. Absolutely phenomenal. And Barry as a show is phenomenal too of course, tiptoeing perfectly on that narrow edge with its tone where it can at any given moment fall into absurdly funny, just absurd or absurdly dark.
give her that Emmy! that monologue scene this season was so good
she's a great actress. I haven't seen actresses recently that can make me feel something but her acting just does, she's talented.
She's so great on Barry and this story is awesome. Bill Hader sounds like such a sweetheart.
I don't need to say how phenomenal her performance is -- because it's been said in literally every other comment below -- but it's phenomenal. She's that good. I had to say it again. I really hope she gets some noms in the future.
Punctuation is off

Like most people, my first exposure to Sarah was through Barry and I was blown away by her skills as an actor. I look forward to seeing more of her acting in the future.
That scene in the elevator, when she's screaming at D'Arcy Carden's character....I've seen that shit with my own eyes before. Her performance was so spot on, it literally made me feel like I was about to have a panic attack.
This is a show where we have to see Sally swing from being a mediocre actress to being a good actress, having her defenses up where she's being dishonest or fake as a person and then how she is when she breaks down and she's being honest - and sometimes all in one scene! So kudos to Sarah for being able to pull that off! 🙌
I couldn't say it better. For me it was enough to watch Episode 1: she goes from very bad acting into good acting in a few seconds. And when someone's good, it's difficult to seem very bad.
She is a remarkable talent and I’m very excited for her future!
I grew up in LA so I've met many, many Sally's in my life.
And most of them from other states or countries right?
@Yusuke Urameshi a place where dreams are possible if you're naive enough. I used to major in theater and the classmates in Barry was too spot on lol.
I`m so glad to see Sarah doing this interview. She`s brilliant on the show!

“We improvised for an hour, and I was just peeing myself.”
Everyone is always SO HONEST in these interviews! 💖
Sam Jones, you are a genius interviewer. Never seen ANYONE get content out of a guest the way you do. And I adore Sarah Goldberg. Hope Barry leads to lots of other stuff.
Being late for an audition/callback is the most suffocating-sinking feeling. Really felt for her.
She is INCREDIBLE in Barry. An amazingly complex character that she manages to sell and be equally as compelling as Barry himself which - considering what Barry is - is amazing really. I love her. Bill Hader hit gold in casting her.
Complex how?
Sally is so infuriating, but I love the ways she plays off other characters and I want the best for her.
And I love Bill Hader coming to the bathroom to ask if she was okay. How sweet of him!
Her performance was such a stand out to me in Barry. She reminds me of Naomi Watts. She deserves more attention for what she brought to Sally's character! Absolutely enthralling!
Definitely! I think she has the same type of range.
Idk her other than from Barry but she sounds charming and very real. I'm glad that she got this role. Sally become very interesting especially in season 2 and Goldberg is perfect.
Barry is my new fav show I watch it right after game of thrones every Sunday. The entire cast is brilliant. I love Stephen Root! lol Remember him in office space? “That’s my stapler”
THANK YOU! I knew I recognized him from somewhere, and it just had to be someone like Milton!
I can only imagine how difficult it is to act in a show, playing somebody not an actor but trying to *be* an actor. She nails the part.
She’s so good on Barry. It’s hard to play a classically annoying person without being hated 😂
shes a phenomenal actress, the success is well deserved
The way she screamed at Natalie gave me the chills. Incredible performance
So that's why Sally feels so authentic.
She literally does acting wthin acting and it's next level. In Barry, when her character is on stage in acting class and portraying another character, that is some great acting!
One thing common between Sally and Skylar is that they both get a lot of hate but don't deserve it. Both of them are flawed people trapped by circumstances.
Sam Jones is a really good interviewer.
not sure why my brain is fuc%$# me up thinking that this interview is just part of the Barry Universe and I am actually living in it.
She is phenomenal in Barry. Emmy worthy really
Barry is one of the best shows still around, cannot wait for its third season and Sarah just owns her scenes. All of the cast members are purely amazing!
Sarah absolutely crushes her role in Barry. She is fucking incredible.
Her character is annoying but u can tell that Sarah is a really sweet person
So humble
These interviews highlight how successful actors can light up a room, especially when that room is an audition room. Almost everyone in this series is the most beautiful person you'll ever meet in real life. That's what you need to have to make it in Hollywood... to be breathtakingly attractive in the flesh to just about anybody.
TL:DR - Showed up an hour late and had to shit
Sally is just a GREAT dynamic character across the board. Rich and complex, complicated, imperfect, but so very human.
I’ve always struggled to understand if I like Sally or not and I think part of it was that I had never seen Sarah Goldberg out of character, and now that I’ve seen her in this interview I can recognize how incredible her performance is
amazing complex character acted *perfectly*. i hope her career really opens up
Fucking crushing it in S3
Now I can see why she plays Sally so well. It's come thru on the interview....wow.
Wow I would never have believed with Sarah being so talented that after 21 yrs' of acting in theater she was basically living the life of a broke actor in LA. What an amazing life changing role for her to land and now on it's 3rd season. She deserves it.
Around 12 years, not 21 years of experience. She said she started around 21-22 and is 33 now.
@@diannecarroll4087 If you listen at 0:42 she clearly says "my manager who I should say is one of my best friends of 21 yrs." Also she is 37 yrs old and born in 1985.
love barry so much and Sally’s so awesome
I don't know if I like her character, but I really like her.
Having watched Barry, I feel like I know the exact moment she's talking about when her lived experience came out on stage.
Sally is a great character - sweet but a total narcissist 😂😂😂😂😂
is she the cowboy lady from American idol?
My question lol
Hope do notice me same as is...
However you feel about her character on Barry, that means she's doing her job perfectly.
Amazing actress and casting
i had an instinct to just not like her and i just realized it’s because her character is just THAT realistic. that’s talent!
Sounds weird but I didn’t realise you needed to get rights from a film just to reenact a scene from it🤔
She is fucking incredible. Her character is so real. She plays her perfectly.
She’s the same character on Barry. I hate her character which means she’s a great actor
She portrays the perfect “actor” character. Every actor I’ve ever met was extremely self centered. Maybe it’s the nature of how the business works but when I watch Sally I get flash backs of the me,me,me attitude I always got from working alongside actors. Sally’s other traits are also very layered with an Abused becoming the Abuser angle
Shouldn't have mentioned br description.
In a cast where everybody delivers, Sarah Goldberg is standout in her role.
Sally Is Dr. Elliot Reed reincarnated.
Looks and sounds a bit like Emilia Clark to me
So barry is her real life story actually
Hearing her talk you're getting the feeling this character isn't much of a stretch
I'm so glad she got the part. She's killing it :)
well she is just amazing
her acting performance in season 4 was insanely good
Sarah Goldberg is amazing in Barry! I hate her character, Sally. But she does an amazing job portraying her character.
Sally and Sarah are basically the same person.
Just forget the video for a second and just listen to her : she really has a beautiful voice !
Interesting - could do without the bathroom jokes.
Perfect casting, brilliant performance.
Underrated actor, top notch acting in Barry
Such a great role for an amazing actress. Sarah is so beautiful, too.
Most recent episode was one of the best
It's very fitting that Sarah got the part..because like many she lived the same life of a wannabe actor trying make end meat in Hollywood...yet she finally made it through Bill Harder
She was incredible in her role in Barry.
Stunning
Is she that girl from that funny X factor audition
No
Omg this is the girl from Idols!
I don't think so, they don't look the same.
@@floatingsara I google searched her. It is her!
@@floatingsara just search for her name on UA-cam! It's her!
@@mcleanephatha no she's not. The actress of Barry is Canadian not American, and she's younger than this lady, too.
Like others have said the pool scene is what sold me as her being a great actress
She's brilliant.
she's very similar to her character on the show :0
it is criminal that sarah hasn't had the nominations and kudos that have fallen on Bill, Henry, Stephen and Anthony on the actor side.
She is amazing on Barry!
Is she the Sarah Goldberg from American's idol???
yes
No. They look different.
@@floatingsara lol yes they are the same person. look it up
I love this actress. I want to see her in movies.
She IS Sally.
I love her so much in barry
shes gorgeous
Sarah's Sally is absolutely great
She was great in Barry
I hate her character so much in the best possible way.
she's so perfect in the role lol
Sarah is Sally for anyone who can’t see it..she has defended the character in the past because it’s hard admitting you suck
"Off camera"?
3:20 So we're not talking about how Sarah Goldberg just told us that she had to take a massive dump before doing her screen test? Ok...
Shit happens lmao
Great interview. The black and white decision was dumb tho imo
