Putting Ginger Into The Cart

  • Demonstration of how to put a paralyzed German Shepherd dog into an Eddie's Wheels counterbalanced cart with outrigger wheels. This video was just taken an hour ago, at 6 pm, April 7, 2012 It has been exactly one year since Ginger has been down (unable to stand up or walk). The vet believes she has degenerative myelopathy. Her front legs are now very weak as well, and her front paws are knuckling when I support her back end and try to make her take steps; oftentimes she falls and gets scared, so we have to be careful. I have been putting her into the cart since Sept. 2011 but it's only recently that she has learned how to walk in it. She loves the freedom it gives her.
    So if your dog doesn't take to the cart right away, don't give up. It took us 6 months, but WE DID IT! :)
    Ginger just turned 13 last month and considering her handicap + her age, she's doing great. I love this dog!

    I'm so sorry Ginger passed away. But I'm so happy to see someone so special who did so much to take care of her. This is my dogs page, he's a paralyzed German Shepherd Mix from Iran. His name is OMID (which means "HOPE"). Wishing u the best, with love from Omid and his mom :)

    So sad that she has those dogs around her and she can’t run with them. My German Shepherd called Bruce has hip issues. Going to get him into using a cart. Got to give them the best life you can right up to the end. Bruce had raw beef steak tonight and also salmon. Yep he’s my boy. Comes to work with me and everything.

    Oh my I don’t feel so badly anymore. Have my first full wheelchair for my boy with DM, and talk about a learning curve. Yikes. Trying to get the perfect fir proves very hard when my doggie can’t stand... i hope that you finally got your fit right as I see the belly strap was way too far back and poor girl was like,” uhh no mom. “

    I just ordered a Eddie Wheelchair from eBay. I decided today to put my pup in the cart. It did not go smoothly, I had to make some adjustments. My dog suffers from arthritis, specifically in his hind legs. He has been laying down mostly and I think his front legs has become a little weak from that. I saw your video and noticed your cart has front wheels. How much was it for the front wheels? Thank you for this video. It gives me hope

    • @CloveSmokes
      @CloveSmokes  8 років тому

      +Vivian Orellana At that time, the front wheels (Eddie's calls them "outrigger) cost $125. I'm sure they cost a bit more now. Has your vet put him on anti-inflammatories for the pain of arthritis? I hope he feels better and I'm glad my video gave you some hope.

    Ya know, I had a German Shepard my self. I only had him for about 7 or 8 years and had to put him down too.
    But ya know, for the Christians, I know that I know that I know, we'll have our pets in heaven. And, they'll understand every word we speak, but they themselves won't be able to speak, but they will understand us....How cool is that.
    I'm looking forward to having all my pets and even a few that didn't belong to me that were mistreated.
    Best regards

    Heya! My dog is recently paralized and I'm searching for a wheelchair, you chose and experienced Eddie's Wheels, and although I've read many reviews, I'm never sure about them being real, so I wanted to ask you how did it go with it and if you would order it again, since it's a one time oportunity for us (we dont live in the States, and we are making a huge effort to get the wheelchair from there)

    • @CloveSmokes
      @CloveSmokes  5 років тому

      In my opinion, Eddie's Wheels, in Massachusetts, is the best quality of all carts out there. Some are lighter & cheaper, but are not that good. Is there a rehab center that might let you borrow or rent one? Here in the US, that's also an option.

    I think it's better to put the doggo down. It's just not a doggies life. It's humans being selfish not being able to let go... Our dog is also losing her hips slowly. It's really sad but we'll have to let her go =(

    • @CloveSmokes
      @CloveSmokes  5 років тому

      It is not humans being selfish. It's knowing your dog, communicating with your dog, and knowing exactly WHEN to let go. Each dog is different, as is each human willing or not willing to go the extra mile to keep their dog happy. People on the outside always judge.

    • @wickedarch
      @wickedarch 4 роки тому

      You're right in a sense, in that there may be a point where it is selfish to hold on if the dog is suffering. There's quite a range between that level of suffering and simply not being able to walk. It's rude to assume you know the situation better than this dog's owner, who obviously really cares about and for her dog.
