No it powers up when you turn the ignition and sleeps when you turn the car off. Storage is via a TF card inserted on the side. Saving videos in loop mode, so older loop files get overridden. So you never really run out of memory. You can connect over WiFi and then browse videos on your phone and save them to your camera roll. Or take the card to a laptop/desktop and view save them etc.

If there is a collision detected it will lock the video from being overwritten. To manually do this you need to connect your phone to it over Wi-Fi and select the video you want to save. It’s good. The sensor isn’t as good as some of the better Sony sensors that are out there but it’s a compromise to having such as great integrated looking dash cam

But seeing cameras advance in their optics beyond this one I looked around for something more up to date and found the Mercylion ua-cam.com/video/cZqZc-jMkTM/v-deo.htmlsi=7ImQ8vZCDWg-RDB3 which is much the same but slightly better optics then what I had. I think fitcamx have upgraded theirs since my model.
Yes it’s the same model IIRC. But you can reach out to them to confirm. I just told my car model and year of what I had and they sent the correct model directly. So to be sure I would ask them to confirm.
What a pity its not compatible with my VW Polo 6. It has ACC (no rain sensor though) but maybe the sensor is not located there and is behind the VW Logo at the front of the vehicle. Most likely to be the later case
Yeah mine is down by the bumper for ACC. I was lucky to have the rain sensor up there to piggy back off the power source. I’m not sure what the other cable up there is that’s along side the rain sensor and if that can be used instead. 🤔
Great review, thanks a lot! One important question from my side - when SD card fail, does camera have any sound notification of failing to record? I know from experience, that not all dashcams can do this. I am using my VIOFO A119s camera and it is good, but this one looks more factory like and I really like that :-)
I’ve not heard anything so there is no way of telling if it’s still recording then randomly check in on it each time. For some time I don’t know the date was off and it wasn’t storing recording in date order for a long time. 🤦🏻♂️ making browsing for a specific date or time recording very difficult to find.

And then when you need it and it is not recording for last few months :-D That is to me like - no I do not want this dashcam then. how do you save a video? like i just hop in the car driving around and i had a crash or i saw something can i klick a button so the camera saves like last 2 mins and the upcoming 2 mins like almost evrery other dashcam?
There are a few buttons on the left side. I believe one is to save an event video for this purpose. Otherwise with a big enough sd card you can rewatch the last few hours before it’s recorded over.

Do you have a rear camera to go with this camera? The install is just brilliant.
Sadly not. There’s no port for a rear camera either, on mine at least.
How does it affect the battery of the car?
Seems fine. It only gets power when the ignition is on. (There’s no parking monitor).

No it can piggyback off the rain sensor power. That’s what I used.
I can't see how you will have parking mode as the VW will sense a current draw and shut down the circuit. Is there a parking mode on this unit?
No Parking mode I think on this one. Or it’s short and based on motion that fires it up on battery but I’ve not see any significant battery inside it.

Yes there is a parking mode. You don’t get alerts though. I’m not sure about the battery and it’s internal battery life span
