I'm still learning to complete more of my gybes. Some things that have helped me so far: 1) keep eyes on the horizon. Looking down won't help balance. Even if the wing is in the way. Eyes up. As if the wing wasn't there. 2) Front foot pressure. As you accelerate through the down turn, it takes more pressure to keep the foil down. Maybe your 'hip' suggestion is helping with this. 3) Relax. It's fun. Tense muscles are the enemy of balance. Be Chill. 4) Use ankles, like a skateboard, to adjust your turn to keep the board/foil under your weight. This is a faster and more nimble adjustment than your center of mass. Practice carves on a skateboard in the parking lot. 5) Be sure when you enter the turn you don't have either foot way towards the weather side. This will cause you to start turning back (the wrong way) in the middle of your gybe when you've released your back hand. Bring your leading hand up and over your head to help with this and overrunning large wings in light air, too. 6) Practice 'entering' the gybe by doing a LOT of short 'down-turns' on small (even tiny) waves or wakes. Practice turning deeper and deeper and then back up. If you notice a lot of 'swing weight' in these downturns, your mast may be too far back. If you have to move back from taxi/pumping position to foiling position, then move the mast forward. 7) Don't panic when you get through a gybe on foil. Relax. Pump the board if you can bring yourself to do it. Keep your wing way 'out' for power. Gently add forward foot pressure until your board is almost splashing down before switching feet (you'll splash down momentarily, but this is a HUGE help for stability). See you on the water.
Dude, I have to tell you... I'm wingfoiling for more than a year and was struggling to do any transition... Suddenlly, I watched this video and it miraculously worked! Thanks for all these amazing tips! Today I did my first jibes!
Very concise information for the jibe and nice simple instructions for switching feet. I'm currently exactly at this point in my learning curve, so this is exactly what I need now. I'm using this to make notes for my next session, hopefully tomorrow. Thank you!
Great video!! Touched on a few things I haven’t seen before - ‘lead with your hips’ was a game changer for me - better pumping on foil too with this! so thanks!!
Nice Video Kyriakos! We met not too long ago when you taught my 15 years old son in La Ventana. We did a downwinder the next day and he was able to foil. Keep it coming!
Great video. I like that you mentioned windsurfing. I think a video about jibing the wingfoil for those of us that windsurf would be useful. There seem to be big differences, cuz i can't do it winging!
I have seen this problem a lot with ex windsurfers learning winging. I might have to make a specific video for that. But my biggest advice for a windsurfers will probably be to learn to trust the glide of a foil. No need for constant power in your wing
Hello Kakos! Awesome video. You gave me a couple lessons in La Ventana - getting on foil now consistently and next step is the Jibe!!! Hopefully see you in Mexico this winter for a tune up!! Hope you are well!!
Very good tips.... Hopefully I will crack it now. You know the problems that too much windsurfing brings to winging..... That said: there is never too much windsurfing.
Kyriako, your video is very very helpful. Thank you 👍. Maybe you should add these jibing tips in the water as well (in slow motion would be even better). Regards from Greece 🤙🤙🤙
It took me ages to learn how to jibe because my body couldn‘t keep the balance during the phase where you go downwind and are unpowered. Things started to come around when I learned how to dock-start.
Great explanation! Feels like I was there! :) This instruction fixed my jybes! My error was staying powered on late before the jybe, and powering on too early after the jybe which rocked me over as opposed to pulling me forward.
Just started watching your videos. Some of there best info out there. I'm geared up and starting my journey tomorrow if it blows in laventana. Are you still here? It's gonna be crazy come Saturday 🤙
Thank you for the kind response! Yes I am still here, working at Ventana Windsports and looking forward to the wind! See you on the water and good luck :)
Great video. Lots of little tips most don't cover. When i gybe left foot forward i can manage to get round with a little bit of switch riding before falling back. But when i gybe right foot forward the wing doesn't seem to fly as easy and near enough gets back winded, Even when i let go earlier it seems to be unbalanced i never get to the point of switching hands as the wing falls to the outside and pulls my body and i end up falling back out of it. Any tips?
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. UA-cam hasnt been showing me notifications lately. I think the best practice for you would be to learn to trust your foil and learn how far it can glad without power. This will make it easier to switch your focus from board to wing whenever you need. Also, you might just not be "forcing" the wing into place enough because its your wrong side. But bottom line is that we all manage better on one side than then other. Eventually it will click with both and you will get it. I hope you already solved these problems and are now on your next move but if not I hope this helps you. If you still have trouble come find me in Rhodes, at Reckless Riders and we can work on it there 😉

Awesome tutorial ..
Thankyou 😊
Thanks so much Sensei Kakos! You da best and can’t wait to learn more from you in LV!!))
Thank you so much for the lesson, everything is described perfectly, I would be grateful if you add how to practice waves while turning😎🤘
Glad you liked it! And thanks for the suggestion… could you explain what exactly you mean? Waveriding?

I hope it works out for you! Getting the jibe down is a big milestone! Enjoy the process :)
Great tips, you explain it very clear and easy to understand, a very little thing can make a Big difference. Thanks for sharing for experience.

Love your winging tutorials. Keep ‘‘em coming. Cheers
Thank you very much! I will keep making more.

Great coverage. I can jibe, but I'm always looking to get better and the explain to folks who ask.
Awesome. Thanks for really clear and intuitive tips and advice. Can’t wait to get out there and focus on improving 🤙

Glad to hear that! Keep pushing :D
Will probably be there January February, so hopefully see you

That is true! Never too much windsurfing but we just have to remember that we are not windsurfing when we are winging :D
I hope the tips help! Enjoy

I will always try to get water footage when I can! I am glad you liked the video! :)
Thank you so much. Very helpful and just in time.
Glad to help!
I hope it makes life easier. Enjoy :D
Going back out tomorrow and the next day to keep my foiling rides going longer!! Then I'll gybe on foil!
Great video- has lots of useful detail.
I am glad you liked it! Hopefully it helps out! :)
Excellent video. Thanks for the tip of not carving too tightly in the beginning. I guess this is my mistake so far... Enjoy your time in Mexico 😃👍.
Glad to help! Hopefully that all you need to smoother out the jibes! :)
Excellent - thank you
Glad you liked it! 🤙
Nice clear instructions👍 Thx
Glad you liked it! I hope it helps you improve fast!

Thanks, very helpful and clear!
Your welcome! Thank you for watching! :)
Thank you for your video. Hi from La Ventana
Great video. Please do one about setting the harness lines for wing/foil [I see you’ve done one already for windsurfing]…
Thank you for the recommendation... I will definitely look into it more and try to make a video! Stay posted
really helpful thank you, you do great job
Glad I could help! Enjoy your jibes! :)
Good advices, better if speaking more slowly? and a short video at the end (for the fun) 😊
Thank you! I appreciate it.
I get too excited teaching and sometimes forget to slow down. 😆🙏
Εισαι μεγαλος δάσκαλος κακο! Ετοιμος για το jibe!!
Ευχαριστω πολυ!
Great. Hope it works
Glad you liked it! Let us know how it goes!
