I am just getting started with recording and mixing this is going to be my first shot at it ever. I work with computer programs a lot but never with a DAW. If I wanted to optimize my learning curve what would be your best suggestion. I am going to be primarily working with Rap vocals. So far i think what i seen is. step 1. Good recording Step 2. Volume balance between tracks Step 3. Reductive EQ Step 4.Compression Step 5. Additive EQ Step 6. De-esser Step 7. Reverb and Delay What free plug ins do you recommend for the EQ and compressor? Thank you for any advice I am eager to learn and just want to optimize my training to be more efficient and not make as many beginner mistakes as possible. Been watching a lot of your Videos thank you.
Yeah that's a good strategy! The additive EQ is something I don't do much since a lot of high end is added in my mastering chain. But for eq and comp just use the stock plugins in your DAW. They work great
@@RawTechniqueStudios Thank you so much you have been a great source of information and really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work bro! Look forward to learning how to mix and record and with your help I might turn out to be halfway decent.
When I do this for my vocals the sound will go away when theres no vocals but as soon as the recording starts actually saying words the buzzing comes back with it how do I fix that
A gate will only remove the buzz in between words. If the buzz happens while you talk then you need to find what is buzzing and get rid of it while recording.
Hi, Raw Technique Studios! Thanks for posting this video. I have a begginer´s question. At 1:16 you record/duplicate the same line as the first track. How do I do that? I´m trying to follow your steps to eliminate the buzz sound from my recording but I´m stuck at this point.
You would create a new audio track. Then make the output of the original audio track say bus 9. Then make the input if the new audio track bus 9. Then record enable the new track and press record. It will print the new processed audio track. This isn't necessary but if you want to print the processing that's how
@@RawTechniqueStudios Thanks for the help! But what if the noise is equal or even higher than the actual sound, how do I manage to eliminate the buzz without sacrificing the guitar sound? If you could point me in the right direction, I´d be really glad. If not, thanks anyway!
@@13GManhan if the noise is the same level all you can do is either manually cut the sections between parts out or try noise reduction plugins like waves NS1 or Izotope stuff
@@RawTechniqueStudios Thanks for the help, man! As always, a musician´s dilemma is money. As soon as possible, I´ll purchase these plugins. Merry christmas and a happy new year!
The best "Gate" tutorial on the UA-cam.
Thanks!!
Literally
Dude !!! Ive been struggling with this for ages Thanks!!!!!!! And I always saw tha plug in never cared to mess with it
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen in a long time.
Glad it helped!

Thank u🙏
Shawn can u do one with the stock compressor on a vocal show when it’s getting compressed righter and tighter and when it’s not
Good idea, I will add it to the list
Thank you! This was really helpful in fixing some of my voiceover audio recorded on my iPhone.
You are a king for this!
Excellent!
GREAT CONTENT ❌ VERY INFORMATIVE ! ! !
KEEP IT UP FAM! U HELP ME (& PLENTY OTHERS) ALLOT🙌🏿
Thanks man glad you like it!

Gating only removes it from the spaces not the vocal itself. So you would need mouse reduction plugins like NS1 from Waves
Would this help when you're recording a voice-over? When I record I can hear a buzzing. It's a high pitch buzzing..would I use a noise gate for that?

Can you make a vid where you explain how to gate vocals ? Love the vids bro!
Thanks man. I don't usually gate vocals. I like to manually cut out small noises and breaths on vocals.
Thanks brotha !
It's cool
How did you get it to loop record on another track like that so you could actually monitor what the compressor is doing?
You can right click the record button and choose loop

Bro or any clic remove plugins
Noise removal is great form some things and gating is great also. Just 2 different tools
Does this work on pro tools first?
Pro Tools first is very limited. I don't think they allow 3rd party plugins
It's a cut down version, but you can use your plugins in it. Thank you for your time and info. Great video!
Would this work for crickets in the background
Only in the spaces not during the audio.
MOST EXCELLENT Video on stock GATE included with PROTOOLS!
