Michael Carbenara has been putting on Big Apple Comic Con for many years. The last few years tend to be around December. It's a mostly comic based show, the holiday atmosphere makes it fun. The location is near MSG, and the hotel it takes place in,was the exterior for the original Superman movie.
Michael Carbenara is a legend in the industry. Big time comic dealer.
Mike Carbonara! Y'all should give the Comic Con documentary Morgan Spurlock did (Mike pops up a few times)- OUTSTANDING time capsule of a pre-MCU comic con! MUCH LOVE!
The gentleman you did the big purchase from is a great guy. He comes to the Raleigh Con all of the time and brings an amazing variety of books and has always been willing to make deals. I'm not surprised at the variety of stuff you pulled from his boxes. His grading is solid and just a fun person to talk to.
Always nice to see good old Batman comics. I have a majority of those 70s era Detective Comics and Batman.
Cool appearance by the Big Apple Comics guy.🎉
Yall meeting Carbenara was soo cool. I hope you take advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with him, he has decades of experience to add to your knowledge-base resources...
Always fun to see Pedro! 😁
Nothing like watching insiders pick through boxes way before the ticket buyers 👀
Nothing really to get upset over. It's a bunch of middle tier non keys in majority of those boxes. I've never met a person excited for Iron Man... #2. There's plenty to get when the show opens anyways.
they are doing you a favor, all overpriced, all common books.
everyone who has been to heroes knows to wait til sunday for the deals...
@@ryancreery I think there's deals "always" to be had. Any vendor would want to clear their overhead cost on Day (1) if possible as tomorrow is never promised. I think buyers need to make more offers, but be willing to "walk away" if there's no bend on the seller. It doesn't mean give silly offers like "A previous copy sold for 50% a week ago, can you match that?!" which is annoying on the receiving end as seller.
Hey,Sara & Angelo, really been enjoying your road tripto Heroes Con!! Always fascinated to see what you guys find!! Cool to see the shows that I likely will never see in person(although I hold out hope for San Diego, one day!)
21:25 - 100% agree - dig through those boxes! LOL So many keys in my collection, I have because I dug through boxes and didn't just shop the wall.
lmao you met mike carbo!
The House of Mystery with the alligator cover is often mistaken for Wrightson, but I believe it was drawn by Nestor Redondo.
Issue 219 cover is by Luis Dominguez but the second story inside is art by Redondo. Interestingly, Wrightson is on the interior art page 1 where he's drawn Cain.
@@Fenimore.Cassidy That's the name. Redondo is the only thing I could think of.
Around the 5 minute mark theres a gentleman that has a buzzed head, glasses and a sling bag. Thats Ken who owns TasteeCat Comics in Portland, Oregon! He is super knowledgeable and kind. I find myself at his shop every other month when I go hunting. Fun to see him there, he might have a booth!
You should have interviewed Michael Carbonaro. 🌟
What a character Big Apple is, huh? Guy's stylin'.
Mike is always at 100% just a passion for comics
You guys should visit the Super Fly Comics store in Yellow Springs Ohio. There’s also a shop called Dark Star Books and Comics there too.
Love the hat tip to Corben at 9:50
Michael Carbonaro...a legend!
I think big apple thought he had a shot at Sara. 😅
Have you thought of getting a Go-pro 11 or 12 and a chest strap to do your videos I think it would be easier to use where you don't have to use your cell phone and you can move the go-pro to aim at the comics your viewing and has great audio and you can get wireless mics for you and your wife.
😊Jamal Shelly says Comics Comics Denn is excellent and rocks
There's cool, and there's Corben cool.🚬 Just hearing the name, ahhh. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Big Apple comics is awesome! Never been in person but the website is spectacular!
mike carbonaro is a unique character
He was hitting on Sara.
BIG APPLE scared me...!
Ah ha! You have to catch the pre-show, pre-sale to get some great books! Lucky to be an insider!
I love the books your pulling out, we like the same type of books, silver age war & supe heroes.
Thanks for sharing
VERY Cool to see those old Pulps esp. the first Conan app. Also the Shadow... I've heard of these but but never seen them!! Thanks, guys!!
I liked Michael's reference to Den, from Heavy Metal
Magazine!
So cool You looked at the astonishing tales with it on the cover. I had that book back in 1988. Enjoying watching Your Adventures Brother and Sister. Thanks always for sharing Your passion and adventures from Toronto Ontario Canada 😎👍❤️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️📚📚📚📚📚✨️✨️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️✨️✨️💯💯💯💯💯✨️✨️✨️✨️
The set up is getting better and better. I can only imagine how much much fun people who are there are having.
Good Show!!!
The weird tales is awesome. I also collect pulps.
Seeing those Ghost and Mystery covers....bought thousands of comics from store closing 40+ years ago....I kicked off 15,000 of those type books and non super hero books etc for ten cents @ ...now they are sought after books...:-)
Just found that exact Weird Tales on eBay 😄
I am enjoying this road trip and convention! Can't wait for more to come!
Awesome behind the scenes video and those books for $20 are Bangers!🎉🎉
This was a fun video!!
Hard not to blow all of my money at things like those haha
Beautiful books. Awesome job
Mike seems like a dope guy!

Can we see Angelo's pageboy haircut again? Dang!
Sara just met a comic guru-Legend Mike Carbonaro and she does not even realize.
LETS GOOOOOOO WOHOHOHOH 👑💪💪 CONGRATULATIONS ALSO ON 21k SUBS 👑👑👑 those flashes were so nice also 😁
Very informative.
Outstanding!
Omg! I saw that pulp of Weird Tales about six years ago at a shop in my town. He was asking $800 and it was around a 5.5 condition.
Errr, not that you don't do a great job recording your comics adventures, but these "in media res" openings throw me for a moment; ever considered editing the beginning slightly to bring viewers in more smoothly?
I'm with Angelo on the first seller's stock, issues of Star-Spangled Comics rarely turn up and some of those other World War II-era books you showed, I have never seen before.
House Of Secrets #89 is quite iconic for its cover, which uses design elements typical of the Gothic style popular in the late 60s and early 70s due to the success of the tv series Dark Shadows. You can find a lot of paperback covers with similar layouts and the classic oval border.
Pedro's graded toys knocked me over: I really didn't know you could get them done. Time to dig out my kids' old toys and start looking at them as possible investments rather than SIS ("stuff in storage"). And then he follows up with a graded Weird Tales that includes the first publication of Conan, that is astounding and for me the most desirable item in the whole video.
I religiously follow your videos guys! I always watch you and gem mint! If I have to nitpick, hopefully you guys can start uploading 60fps videos 😅
Surprised you didn't snag that Secrets of Haunted House 5 book at 4:44, with the cool and sought-after Wrightson cover. I used to have a CGC 9.0 of Incredible Hulk 115 (5:43). That cover really pops in copies that are in high grades.
Love you videos have fun 🎉🎉😊😊
Carbonara is a legend.
man prices need to drop, its getting hard to collect at 40$ per book
At about the 4 minute mark, that guy in the background is talking so loud, it seems like you're interviewing him.
Do the sellers ever get into fights?
It's interesting you should ask that. I just went to a con this past weekend and some of the dealers were telling me that there were fights in the loading area of Heroescon this year! Apparently some dealers, who just arrived, were trying to zip in front of other dealers who had been waiting for hours. Crazy stuff!
That mike guy is a lot
Overpriced old man comic vendor books
