This song has always reminded me of a tragedy when I was in high school. A classmate of mine was killed in a car wreck and it shook me bad. Especially since she was the last person I spoke with that afternoon at school & had told me "See you on Monday" as we left school that Friday. She died later that night. What made & still makes this song even weirder is that her middle name was Laree; so close to Laurie. Stranger still is that Donna Laree died in1965; the same year that Laurie (Strange Things Happen) came out.
Dave, thanks for your comments. So many things do happen in life we can't explain even routine things. Calling someone on the phone at the same time and even in messenger on the computer two people think the same thing at the exact same moment. Those are the two things that stand out for me at the moment. The one great thing about music or for me it keeps the memories alive. God bless.
My dad told me about this song many years ago and I have been trying to find it ever since but never could until now. Thank you for finally letting me hear it; I only wish Pop was still here so he could listen again as he liked it and he couldn't find it either.
Thanks for the comments. So glad you have that memory of your Pop and sorry for you loss, but grateful that by making this little video I have had an effect on someone else. That makes it all worthwhile. God bless.
I used to go to Jackson Tennessee to KOOL-103 radio Caravan of Stars and he must live close to Jackson because he was at so many of the shows. He he just didn't sing but wrote all of his songs which I believe he had 6 or 7 big hits. Plus he wrote songs that Elvis presley recorded and others
For years my dad told me he named me after a Laurie that died in an old song. Months ago, I finally, randomly found it. The sheer irony is that this song fits me. I almost died on my birthday, I'm lovely and warm personality wise, I am always cold, I love graveyards, I'm a ghost magnet, I live for old sad songs like this, and strange things always happen to me. Thanks for sealing my fate, dad! And thank you for uploading this video!
Thanks so much for your comments and your connection to this song. Strange things did and do still happen in this life that we can never explain. Glad you liked the upload.
I heard this song on the way to the hospital to have my daughter. I had a hard time having her & almost lost her. I named her Lori. I thought that was the way you spelled it. I was wondering why my mother called her Laurie. ❤
I’ve sang this song since I was a young girl, (12) I’m 53 now and I’m still singing it, I felt safe and comforted that I wasn’t alone in the years I walked home alone , ❤️
I loved your comment and it makes me happy that this song has given you comfort over the years. I've always loved music and this was one of my favorite songs as well. My God bless you and your family and friends.

@@jimmywatkins7705 This is why I like UA-cam. Until it came along there were songs from long, long ago that I loved but thought I'd never hear again. But I enter their titles here, and sure enough, there they are.

I've had members of my family on both sides of my family to tell stories of seeing a loved one before and after death. So I do know people do see things that are unexplained. There is a cemetery directly behind my house and I've had people to ask me "have you ever seen that light come out of that cemetery?" I have never seen the light myself, but my son has. Based on their stories there is a light that comes out of that cemetery from time to time. Thanks to all of the people who have viewed this video. I did live in a house once that had a little girl who walked down the hall very often. My wife would always tell me I was dreaming, but the times I saw her were too numerous. I never knew or got to talk to anyone who might have known what happened in that house or the story behind the little girl, but she was there, no doubt in my mind. After we moved I never saw her again.
My brother just asked me to give a 'credible reason' for this song, which I have never heard before(but quite like). I replied that there isn't one...it's just a spooky old ghost story. But then I added..' Of course the guy could just be on drugs in a graveyard and later he found his sweater.' It WAS 1965 after all! Bro DIDN'T like this explanation at all! He prefers the ghost idea! It is everyone's own perception of the song that matters!
There really are spirits. 100'percent true. Our bodies die but our souls lives on. I've seen enough starting at age 5. My great grandmother also had this gift. I pray one day you will experience it to.
@Jay MacB The song wasn't made up. This 1965 song is based on the true story of "Resurrection Mary" (circa 1930's) who apparently occasionally appears to this day along Archer Av. in Justice, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. There is one particular documented case from 1976 involving the Justice, Illinois Police Department that confirms the story of Resurrection Mary. You can read about Resurrection Mary on the Internet and there are various videos here on UA-cam. Probably the most famous unexplained paranormal "ghost" story in the United States.
@@jimmywatkins7705 From what I understand, the song by Dickey Lee is based on the story of "Resurrection Mary", but he clearly embellished the story and used a fictitious name, Laurie, for the song.

I need more of the story?😳 Why did Laurie do that? Did he apologize to the dad? Rhetorical questions
