In the mid 70’s the GNP Crescendo label released a really good Seeds album titled ‘Falling off the edge of my mind’ which consists of non album songs

Great video, Derek. I learned a thing or 2. I'm looking forward to more.

I like the way you are branching out here. Some of my favorite records you got there (Pharaoh, Suicide, Food for Thought, Astro Sounds). I used to have that Seeds reissue. Wish I never ditched it. Keep rocking

You started out with that MC/5 which I also recently found! I believe I was the one who mentioned that fantastic 101 strings LP! Congrats for finding that grail! There are a few other great psych LPs like that on the label too if you wade through their zillions of releases on Alshire and their many subsidiaries on discogs!

That's right, good timing! I find Astro-Sounds a week after you mentioned it. 😂 I have a couple on Crown, I sold a few other Alshire titles too. I just need these essential ones. And that Beo Wulf on Crown if it'll ever pop up for sale.

Derek, a very nice assortment of music. I just looked on FB Marketplace, in case I found a similar seller but no luck. I bid on a couple of those jazz titles in a recent Carolina Soul auction, but the bids quickly went beyond what you seemed to pay for your whole stack! Thanks, Chris

People pay out the wazoo over at Carolina Soul! Haha, but this is the way I'd like to find them.

Ohhhhhh yeah, I love that Suicide album! I did not love it at first, haha. I heard one song, was confused, and moved on. But something compelled me to go back. I listened to Frankie Teardrop alone late one night and was hooked from then on. I never thought I'd ever find a copy, but then I found an original like a month or two later (to my utter disbelief). Ha, Taxi Driver is a good comparison!
I also did not know there were cool 101 Strings albums. Now I know. I will keep an eye out for it.

Some good finds! I love the 101 Strings album and have it on CD, but keeping an eye out for it on vinyl should it ever appear in my neck of the woods. I do like their album Sounds Of Today, which is quite groovy and psychedelic in a cheesy kind of way.

Great bunch of records, congrats! "Non MC5 Attitude" love that! Astro-sounds is super cool, Flameout and Barrier-x-69 are two killer tracks! Suicide (the LP) is great, very cool that you found the first US press, it's getting harder to find nowadays. John Fahey is also a favourite here. Take care!

The MC5 recorded raw is the only way to go. 😂 Suicide was a revelation to me, real glad to experience it first on vinyl.

Great pickups that you don’t usually see out in the wilderness of record shopping.

Unless you're avid fan of experimental ,electronic and avant-garde music or anything beyond the tpo 40,albums like SUICIDE are for Open Ears Only!

I don’t think so, it’s less weird now because a lot of people in the underground has copied their sound and elements of it.

The MC5 singles are very cool. It has been years since I’ve listened to Back In The USA. I really don’t care for it. A bit too polished and some crappy covers if I remember right. I need a copy of that JBs record. Very cool to get an original Suicide. The Flaming Groovies have never really hit me. Though I’ve only listened to a couple of their records. I’m not familiar with John Fahey. I just figured he was a Folk singer. Pharaoh Sanders sounds like he play the sax through his nose.

Yeah, maybe a couple cool numbers on U.S.A., but it's lacking punch for sure.

Woo-hoo... "Kick Out The Jams, Bobby Sherman!" Got the MC5 Skydog 45, but don't remember if there's any issues or not. Raw And Alive has it's moments. "900 Million People Daily...". The Misunderstood covered Wells' "You're Tuff Enough" on a later 45.

Trippin on Lunar 7 is my joint on that Astro Sounds lp! 101 Strings has like 200 different albums, this is probably the only listenable one lol

Those MC5 singles are cool, never have seen those before. Never have come across an OG Astro-Sounds, but I do have the RSD reissue from awhile back. Jagger said, that Flamin' Groovies album is better than Sticky Fingers. I have never seen that hype sticker before. Will be fun to see the rest of what you pulled.

That Suicide album is the craziest FB marketplace score I've ever seen. You should delve into the NYC No Wave scene of the late 70s early 1980s if you enjoy the bleakness of that Suicide album.

    • @PsycheDerek.
      @PsycheDerek.  18 днів тому

I've heard a few No Wave/Synth stuff, but it didn't really latch on at the time. I'll do some digging around.

Awesome to see you branching out and heck of a deal for sure. Thembi may be the best Pharoah but you can't go wrong with anything on Impulse from that era. Check out Deaf Dumb and Blind. I saw you posted that Lonnie Liston Smith which is prime spiritual cosmic jazz. Look up the reissue of Khan Jamal's Drum Dance for an incredible take on that style. Also Joe Henderson w. Alice Coltrane's "The Elements". Perhaps you've streamed them but otherwise check em. I need to upgrade by Suicide at some point to the first press but that's been a longtime favorite. That first pressing has gotten pricey! We are in agreement on the Flamin Groovies! And very happy to see you checking out Fahey. If you want a shortcut to his experimental, psychedelic lps check out Volume 6 (Days Gone By), The Yellow Princess or The Voice Of The Turtle. He goes full on tape manipulation / music concrete with psych effects.

I recognize some of those titles & sleeves from the different communities out there. I'm more partial to Alice's works over John's. But if anything, they're settling better with me than ever. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll save 'em to my library here.

I have a copy of the Suicide album from 1977. It is a hard listen. I found it a little disturbing. That screaming in it. Its definitely something in its own league.
