Mmmmmm....not always. Even though the rain can sometimes be helpful when it’s basically a heatwave....when it’s a horrible thunderstorm the areas that are closest to a large body of water are at a higher risk for flooding, and some parts of NYC are located right on the water. Also.....when it comes to the sewers and drains, and all of the filth leading to the ocean.....not really the safest thing considering that all of the filth eventually impacts and kills some of that marine life, and also impacts some of our seafood that we eat....and even though our seafood when it gets served is usually clean....some of that filth could go undetected and be a risk to us. So rain in NYC.....while it’s sometimes a positive, it’s also sometimes a negative.
I love this kinda weather. A warm crackle off the fire place, mom whipping up her delicious pot roast, grandpa in his chair telling us a story about the good ole' days and out of dads old transistor radio, you hear a Billy Joel classic. I 💜 NYC

I had exactly the same weather on the first morning of my first vacation in New York City in 1994, only I didn't have an umbrella. Luckily I was able to grab a cab and then spent the morning at the Met. After that, the weather was better.

Got stuck with this going to queens mall with wife n kids, should’ve known we weren’t beating this downfall.. We get off at woodhaven, get to stairs, line of people waiting cause mini waterfall coming down the steps. My wife’s like “we got umbrellas, let’s go” I’m lil irritated but agree. We go up n umbrellas did shit!!! Our feet, legs, arms, pants n shorts soaked... I ain’t a mall guy so being wet, walking in slushy feeling shoes sure didn’t help!! Should’ve stayed home lol still good to out with the family.
You learn this in Florida when rains no matter what when a storm hits immediately duck under an awning or store or even your car. You just get under cover and stay until it calms down. Trust me as it’s not the thunder it’s the lightning always accompanies these storms and they strike with no warning. It’s not a pretty sight when it hits. I live in the lightning capital of the US for Pete’s sake and Orlando is that capital. We get more lightning strikes than other places right around where interstate 4 is. You will just see a spiderweb of lightning in the sky every summer. Also most houses here have some sort of lightning rod that carries the extra power to the ground wire underground it’s safer that way.

I was in the Ikea parking lot in Brooklyn, deep inside covered and the rain came in sideways like 300 feet in 😂

You are correct it's not the thunder, its the lightening that will get you! But I also don't like the thunder- much too loud, sensitive to noise. ⚡⚡⛈
