Energizer used to offer repair or replacement of any device damaged from leaking batteries. My aunt had a GE transistor AM radio damaged by leaking batteries and Energizer replaced it with a brand new GE AM/FM set back in the 1990's.
I've just finished doing a restore on a "treasure" I was staggered to find in a junk shop a couple of years ago. A lovely Kyoritsu K1420. It's the meter that was on my workbench when I was in tech school !!! It still had the bench number in faded texta and the equipment number punched dymo label attached !!! I had to replace 1 Electro, the neon power light, and did a swap from the coax style probe fitting to a BNC, and gave it a new coat of paint. The modern digital meters drive me nuts waiting for the display to read when your jumping around the circuit tracing a fault, and are hopeless when doing an alignment. Cheers Eric
100% agree Eric, it is just impossible to do any sort of peaking with them ! I also have a Kyoritsu meter in the collection, top stuff ! I think i might do a multimeter video, lol I have around 20 of them, dating back to my AWA VTVM from the 50's. It will need recapping for sure. Cheers Mate, thank you for watching 🙂
Nice one! I wish I'd kept all my old gear. When I gave up electronics and decided to be a public servant 🤮I thought I'd never need my stuff again. By that time I'd had a gutful anyway. But the bug kept biting and slowly - well, here I am spending all my spare time on radios & stuff!
Yep, thats what it's like ! I went commercial flying for a few years but always come home & fixed stuff. Just in the blood. Even tried as a tenpin bowling tech but STILL come back to radios. Then tried commercial radio transmitters but you guessed it ! Retired & guess what I'm doing . . . LMAO !
Hi Baz, nice multimeter, remember using a Simpson and a VTVM back in the seventies. I have an AVO 8, had to make up a 14vdc battery stacking up button cells for the high Ohm range, batteries used to be available from Radio Spares some 15 years ago as was the meter. Seems battery leakage is becoming more common!!
Yep, the old AVO was a real workhorse, love mine ! I did similar with button cells, works great. I wish you could still buy higher voltage batteries, don't understand why someone (Chinese) can't get onto it ! Thank You for watching :-)
My first meter w 0:17 as a Heathkit valve voltmeter. That was 50 plus years ago. I used it until I bought an early Fluke. Both have worked without a fault since.
Baz a reconditioned on old Philip Digital Multi Meter I guess I am old timer bought up with Analog Meter I have fluke Digital meter and old AVO 8 like you have I still prefer the Analog meter yes we go it’s losing a library of knowledge with the knowledge we obtain over the Years,Ian,

Wow Douglas, I did not know that one !
Cheers & thanks for watching.

Lots different to what we buy from China now !

I hear ya Ian, the old analog meters were a different kind of beast, they taught us how to read and how to repair!
Cheers
Baz, you know I have a spare one or two that you can borrow 😇🤣🤣
😂
