  • In this video I go over the free version of the Seedtime app. There are some really great features of this app and some things that are not as great.

I just saw the Facebook ad and wanted another person's opinion. Thank you for a well-presented review.

I just purchased the unlimited package 10 days ago. I grow 20+ varieties and I spend many hours over the winter trying to lay out my work for the year by myself on paper and a spreadsheet. This is going to save me to much time and also help me on task throughout the year. (Not to mention the paperwork mess I make when I switch some plans at the last minute.)

Other than the prompts to encourage you to subscribe to a paid plan, what was it you did not like about the app? It appears to me to be a GREAT app, and they offer it FREE to use! We are not entitled to demand others provide us with their labor for free. It is generous of them to offer it free just to help people. If we can afford to pay them for one of the subscription plans, I think it is the right thing to do.

Hello Maeve, thank you so much for watching. The prompts were super sketchy, and disingenuous. It is one thing to advertise to encourage people to pay for the subscription, which is great. To be lying about the subscriptions coming in though just makes me not want to use their services, paid or free. It is free to use, but only to a point, there is a limit on how many plants, you cannot customize the varieties, and can only have one garden. Perhaps they should have looked into getting advertising, sponsorships, or partnering with gardening products and organizations. I would much rather see an add for gardening supplies or seeds than the sketchy feed of most likely not real subscriptions. In their contact to become an affiliate, there is a section saying you cannot say anything negative about the brand or app at all or you will lose any money gained from referrals. So any of the reviews for Seedtime that include their referral link for their program are biased. It could definitely be a great tool for some, but I will be sticking with my spreadsheet and spending that money on seeds instead.

I’ve used a project mgmt tool to do my planning but a junior gardener suggested this app. I’m outside the US (New Zealand). It looks well thought out. We don’t have offical Hardiness zones here. So I wonder how much customising I’d have to do? I like the idea of linking crop to bed location as I have over 7 terraces and around 35 beds. Any advice from commercial scale farmers on this app? 😊

I believe you should be able to just go off of your first and last frost dates. It you have to do that all manually, which will be a bit of setup but I believe something you would only have to do once for each plant. There is a limit on how many plants you can have for the free one and I believe you cannot do the custom plants with the free version. So, you may need to do the paid version.

Really helpful video, thanks - not sure it is fair to call it sketchy that they encourage you to use the paid version. We all want to be paid for our work. Just a thought. 😉

I purchased the $27.00 thing as it sounded like it added features only to then realize it was for just a pdf file. I immediately asked for a refund and will see how that goes. To me the monthly unlimited plans are to expensive for someone who just grows a few varieties of vegetables. Also paying to add a custom variety name would not take into account days to maturity and if it did allow you to also add that info then you would basically be paying them to add to their database.

Let me know if they send you a refund of not.

@@circlecityseeds Yes they did. It took a few days to get a response. They say to email them for refunds but they don’t say what email address to use. I sent it to the email address that sent me the receipt and to the email address that welcomed me. Not sure which one was the right one but I did get the refund. And I was honest to them and stated I did not download the pdf file. Still right now it’s a bit pricey for someone on social security and just doing two small gardens. It’s also frustrating that standard plants like Cantaloupe is considered a custom type. I wish they would give a military discount or something. Anyway, I digress.

I have been using the free version for almost two years. It is a great app but it is not worth tge $110 dollar subscription price at this time. I have also used other apps in the $40 range and to me that would be a fair price point.
