I have watched several videos from this channel and they have had great success 🤷🏼♀️ Sadly there are those families who are just not motivated to persevere the challenges of restoring these grand historical homes!
Remember, also, they're going to edit the footage to make people believe whatever the show wants. On the Kelly House website is says that those students who came to work there were only there as long as the show was taping. There was no contract made to have them there long term, which the house owners may not have known was the case.
Ruth is so condescending so horrible to watch… she is a snob and obviously has a few issues of her to work on, face the facts lady they haven’t the money is Ruth deaf

I’ve been following for over a year. I am so excited every day to watch the new videos. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Watching that kitchen come Together has been so exciting. But now I can’t wait for that library! I look forward to coming and staying there one day :)
I have rarely seen a family who deserves help less than the Kellys. The degree of laziness by Warren is appalling. If I was his wife I would have left decades ago.
Amen!!! Lazy..a degree of privilege that expects others to “do” for them…horrific. That wife is an enabler… not putting her foot down. The daughter is not too far from her dad.. lazy, hanging around making chocolate? 🙄 I can’t continue watching… I see in comments it is now restored to a B&B. Should never have gotten to this condition.. feeling entitled is a curse.
I don't know. Yes, we shouldn't armchair diagnose over the internet, but... he strikes me as a bit neurodivergent. The very niche hobbies (old car, stained glass, canoe building), seems to focus on details instead of the larger picture, can't seem to set the right priorities (warm house for small children, fixing the windows) etc. He is just old enough to fall into the generation where milder forms of neurodiversity weren't diagnosed as long as the person could still "function" in society. And if neither his wife nor anyone else ever called him out or got him help... yeah, I don't think it's just laziness. At least not with him.
I don't know, I think he seems just overwhelmed, verging on old age, and comes from a long line of people who never had much of a work ethic. I also think he's just avoidant with all his hobbies. I mean it might take a week and have a definite end to make a stained glass window, whereas the house is an open-ended black hole of work.

The boyfriend stated that the were using up the daughters bank account, he didn't mention putting money into the project. He wanted to make bespoke picnic blankets? She wanted to be a chocolate maker?
Great series! Very hard to change the mind set of tradition and family feelings to business and make a living of the property. Are people really that close minded?
@crs6504 I believe that family members who have been isolated for so long might experience tripidation on the idea of sharing their living space with "strangers". After years of abundance, renting out rooms is perceived as "failure" yet times have changed - we are no longer living in that era of "explorers" travelling across the globe and bringing back lots of fortune! I am so proud of this generation of the Kelly family who accepted Ruth's wisdom.
Too much procrastination and/or too many hands in the pot means that major decisions aren't being made to keep these grand country estates in the U.K. in good repair, restored and properly maintained. Many of them will continue to be lost to rot.
This was one of THE best videos! I loooooovef listening to her and even her laugh...she has the best laugh! I loved the indoor and outdoor design. I was inspired hearing about how she began her business. She just seems like a fun down to earth best friend! But I don't think it was the gardner that killed the vine....I think it was her husband and he allowed the gardner to take the blame 😂. I'm actually about to watch the video again for the second time ....I truly enjoyed it
The people who are digging their heels in and not going with business ideas are hiding their heads in the sand. In any home, if you don't keep up with repairs, the home degrades. It will happen no matter how you stomp your feet. Please, give up your resistance and keep your home alive!
I do believe Castles or Estate should be tax free. With the changes of time , unless they have income from a business they are not able to afford help to keep these large homes from deteriorating. The Owners were not raised to clean, repair and even cook. So they are totally helpless. I came from an Estate in E. Prussia, the family completely relied on maids, gardeners and repair people. Yes we had money, but it would have come to a point where the family would have had to buy some kind of business for an additional income. Of course we did not come to that point as the Russians were near and we had to leave everything just with the clothes on our back and get evacuated to Germany. What money we had stayed in the Bank as my family believed we could return. 😊
Ruth, could aptly be named Ruthless. But, by any account it is what most people need to get cracking. Here, the mom was the only one with the right attitude. The dad seemed like the absent-minded professor, the daughter was willing enough but rudderless. Even Chris benefited from Ruth's no nonsense approach and frank demeanor. Congratulations Kelly Family, I'll plan to stay next time we're in Devon. Do you serve Devon clotted cream with scones for tea?
Why laugh at people seeking help? That feels unhelpful, shameful and judgmental…I love to see people seeking help and growth and encourage us all to not feel ashamed for where we are in life…it’s a journey
It is hard to feel sorry for lazy privileged families. The thought of the village donating to the lords who sold off their ancestors farms and homes is kind of incredible. Maybe those families have left the village and the tresspasses of the Kelly ancestors have been forgotten.
It also is hard to comprehend how their country can impose upon generation after generation such *huge* inheritance taxes on those properties, taxes gauged on the estimated/resale/development value, and how it can sit idly by, watching them fall into disrepair as it does. Taxes which, as noted in so many documentaries, actually caused the need to keep selling off those lands of which you so sarcastically speak.
Sometimes you just got to work with people according to their mindset instead of your mindset. But I noticed sometimes you got to play some really good soft music (Like the Isley brothers) to set tone to help people with your vision. Because a Musical atmosphere Influences people State of minds.
American here, but I've always been confused about this myself. In the states there's an inheritance tax, but to get around it if you know it'll be huge, is you sell it to the family member that you want to receive it for $1 before you die. Is that not something that can be done in the UK?@@dross24MA
I will never understand how someone can be gifted an entire income generator and just let it rot. They had that house how long and couldn't think themselves "oh I better rent out a room or lead a tour or rent out land or lead a hunt so I can repair the rotten wall."
I think it would be brilliant if they hired people like me from the United States to spend a year there and work as a housekeeper or work as a gardener or work as a maintenance person. Their position wouldn't be full-time but it would be enough to cover a roof over their head and food. Of course these people will have savings and they will be able to experience living in the UK visiting all of the lovely rich history.
An American would say that, if this woman is bringing these estates back from the brink of sale or abandonment and converting them into functional businesses she should be wearing a cape and some little red boots because her rescue work is nothing short of heroic for the estate owners.
She is not a hero. Its a scripted show. its her job to put the houses on the right track. It would not be very successful if she failed at her job. Just this Americans opinion
@@dross24MA Are you kidding. He is living rent-free on his girlfriend's family property and getting his paws into a home that is not his. He thinks he has scored and is trying to p i ss all over their property and make it his. And here you are thinking he is entitled to something and is being used. He's a con artist and the user. Acting like he is entitled to live on their property. He needs to pay rent or leave. Either way, it's none of his business and he's not entitled to anything. He's not even married into the family.
One BIG thing to remember is Death Duties. After World War II the Estate was liable for two lots of Death Duties. When Warren's father died there was a third. Finally when his mother died, yet another. Death Duties run roughly 13% a time, so that takes a huge amount of money out of the coffers which means there is less and less money to keep up with maintenance. Repairing the roof could run to 7 figures.
I don't know how things actually worked out, but I'd suggested a spa at Whitborn Hall. If you have a spa, there's massage, aromatherapy, yoga, and specialty things that spa retreats offer. You could combine that with the tent idea, and offer gardening therapy which would be a Homesteading type concept in a way. People enjoy reconnecting with land which would cut down on the work that all the residents have to do. Because some of the customers would do it and some hired help would do it as well as the hired help fixing the house. If you do weddings, you could offer a wedding with a honeymoon spa package. So you would make more money than 4,000 pounds. The combination of all these things should keep it calm, especially if the residents get to participate in the spa services whenever they need them. It's just an idea. I think it would be different and it would work. Plus, people would enjoy seeing each improvement made into the house because of their patronage.
That's a great idea, especially in keeping with the serenity of the landscape. It was seriously frustrating listening to the apartment owners who felt very entitled and unwilling to make any sacrifices at all.
The elderly need ready access to good healthcare and hospitals. Problematically, these old country estates were built at too much distance from these and other basic amenities, like grocery shopping.🖤🇨🇦
I would plan/organize a “tour” of selected rooms within the structure that are safe. THEN. I would check contact travel agencies abroad in different countries as a “things to see and do in your area! Also I would start work on that roof first! Work from top down!
Never ever have drapes with a floral design. Be extremely careful about your design for your furniture. Nothing crazy it has to be able to go in every other room you have. That's classic and timeless! Every room should flow right into the next.
I really never cared about what is in or out of style. I have my own style, and my own way, I choose to decorate my pads. No one lives in my home but myself and my furbaby. And as long as we are comfortable. I don't care what the neighbors or anyone thinks.
@Wildflower-ue8qm Same. And I adore floral curtains & rather eclectic decor. It, of course, has to be cohesive & timeless though. I was never for fads either, but if I really like something & I have the means then I get it. I ask myself will I likely find this again & will I continue to think about it & be regretful if I leave it? I try to be very selective on my purchases since the budget is tight, but if it's something that will brighten the lives of me & fur-child, then so be it. We'll cut corners elsewhere on something else.
The theme of these homes and their issues are people who want a place to live without being able to afford it. A lot of denial, some laziness and a good dose of passiveness.
I think the crown should allocate monies to the estates since the title Squire does seem important. I don't think that Chris should be doing it. He's looking to live there as is I'd think so. Sophie has a vested interest by using her savings
This may sound very ignorant as an American but should the Kings wealth pay for some of the repairs of these historic places? I honestly don’t know how these homes work. Are they apart of the royal history?
There are many historic homes that are not on the scale of these mansions, that are torn down regularly to make way for housing developments selling shoddy McMansions. I live in an Arts and Crafts era home that has maintained its original decor to this day. The kitchen has been modernised, but in a style that blends in with the rest of the house. There are no government funds to help preserve these homes either. I have 19 rooms in total with a brick carriage house on the property. That is enough effort to keep up, let alone a huge country mansion.🖤🇨🇦
If I had gone into one of those rooms that were just painted the same day or the day before ( even with latex paint), as a bride or as a guest, I would have a severe asthma attack, as well as having my sinuses affected. I would've had to run immediately into fresh air or have gone to the emergency department ASAP. How were these people so assured that the bride or groom, and anyone else wouldn't have had significant sinus issues, and a severe asthma attack from being in newly painted rooms? I work as an emergency R.N. and I'm even on significant sinus and asthma medications, as well as an albuterol rescue inhaler and double Epipens, prescribed by my allergist. It still wouldn't take away the horrible effect of being in a freshly painted room. Significant to severe allergies and asthma are more prevalent among both children and adults, in every country, than many would dare to guess.
Complain much? For the few people with severe allergies like yourself maybe this wouldn’t be a good fit. I highly doubt they would have people renting a room that has just been painted the day before, give me a break. Most paints today are completely safe with people including pets children and the elderly. With the windows open after a couple of weeks the initial odour goes away. Plus other items are added= furniture rugs linen, they will be cooked in and slept in, it wouldn’t be a problem. It might surprise you that hotels banks hospitals civic buildings sports Plex’s, everywhere public gets a coat of paint now and again to keep it fresh and clean. I don’t know what you expected, after all this is a show on home improvement, painting is the first least expensive option to change and improve the feel of a room and brighten it up🕊
The boyfriend sounds like he wanted to live in an historic home for nothing. this home also demonstrates the true long term cost of the exorbitant death taxes. A a fast influx of cash at the death of the owner and no money for upkeep for the heirs.
This boyfriend.......obviously had his eye on getting this estate as soon as the parents are no longer. Note, he talks of spending his gf's savings on the house....... He obviously has nothing, but I guess he's thinking, his elbow grease is enough payment for him to get the house in the end. He landed himself a gf from a notable family, with land and property. I fell he's only with the daughter because of the estate. I find he allows himself far too much say in THEIR property! Afterall, he IS just a boyfriend! Not a husband! No legally part of the family! What a cheek he has to be making decisions and throwing his weight around, as if he has any rights there.
I really think the present owner has been very neglectful, prefers playing with his hobbies. He is just plain lazy. His poor wife that can’t motivate him and his daughter trying to do a job that she is not cut out to do . Love is not enough. Sorry I ca t watch this episode to the end. If the present owner can’t be bothered m I can’t be bothered watching it . This mess hasn’t happened over night 🤨
All this because the owner is lazy. Such a shame. Maybe he should move into a bed sit and have those how who are stimulated to work should live and work there.
And yet these ‘poor’ landowners still own all of the land and people like my relatives are still paying generations and generations later rent for farming.
That's just old England. Move to the USA like my ancestors did. I have royal blood in my veins, but my ancestors were not the elder sons. You're English, you know that is how it goes. Thanks for your reply.

24:46 The daughter looks like Ruben’s painting I bet she looks like one of her ancestors
it is a shame there is little appreciation of these beautiful home within govts. excessive taxes make it very difficult to keep historic buildings and this throughout europe!
I would love to see an update ❤
Virginia City Woman, I'm your biggest fan, It's just really rewarding to see a young family build their home in real time !
I’ve been following for over a year. I am so excited every day to watch the new videos. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Watching that kitchen come
Together has been so exciting. But now I can’t wait for that library! I look forward to coming and staying there one day :)
This is history, seriously, you will never see these historical sites ever again.
I can’t continue watching… I see in comments it is now restored to a B&B.
The lady totally called him out. She said he came from a long line of people that just lived to amuse themselves
Old ideas can sometimes use new buildings. New ideas must use old buildings. Most times it amazes me greatly how I moved from an average lifestyle to earning over $63k per month, Utter shock is the word. I have understood a lot in the past few years that there are lots of opportunities in the financial market. The only thing is to know where to invest.
I keep wondering how people earn money in financial markets, i tried trading bitcoin on my own made a huge loss and now I'm scared of investing more..
@@Florencecoxx That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like *Sarah Alma Martinez* my consultant. I found her on a CNBC interview where she was featured and reached out to her afterwards. She has since provide entry and exit points on the securities I focus on. I basically follow her trade pattern and haven’t regretted doing so.
You allow people to trade for you? that's interesting, How can I be part of this project I earnestly hope to build a strong financial future I'm interested to take part, I would love to learn, hope it’s safe?
@sheilajensen This is the Fourth time I'm seeing someone talking about Sarah Alma as there are lot of testimonies about her, do you know her ? if yes , did you invest with her?
@@Florencecoxx It's 100% safe and legal, She’s an expert trader on stocks and bitcoin. I basically do nothing but collect profits, she was able to get me in early on most of these stocks and I exited just at the right time, her analysis was really on point
What a lovely home.
I've always dreamed of having a Georgian country house.
I could buy one, but restoring it would be too rich for my blood. Maybe a cottage...
Mabe they could sell some things that would bring in some money
I love all the items you got especially the the palm lamps. Just fabulous.
‘You come from a long line of people who have idled their way around.’
I felt that. Same.
Perfect diagnosis. If your family lineage of the last 800 or so years is unable to locate a single soul that was employed, that might be your problem.
@@amywalker3647 lol that’s what I’m going to tell people
@@amywalker3647 “I come from a long line of the unemployeds,..so..’
So loved what you did. Very clever ideas, great $ savings 👏
Wonderful series, I thoroughly enjoyed this! I would’ve liked to of seen I’ll follow up a year later to see where they’re all at🕊
Wikipedia tells that 3 bedrooms are being used for 'B & B' accommodation and 'some' of the Kelly's are still occupying the house. Look it up. 🤗
Sto guardando il sprego triste vedere marcire tale ricchezza de una grande aristocrazia bmediobal e un peccato dio sono castelli da un grande respeto culturale ❤❤
I'm really curious to see when you finish the whole house. I'm looking forward to seeing the living room with the fireplace and book shelves.
It is so utterly disheartening to own a Home one cannot afford to maintain. 😢 I have endured such a circumstance in the past.
So fun to watch!! They are lucky to have her
Simply fantastic job!
I think they could make so much money with that house... omg I see a gorgeous country estate waiting for people to explore and enjoy.
How can dad be just busy with his silly hobbies now, when he could have all the time to do it after he has income rolling in..
Lazyish
The boyfriend thinks his (girlfriend’s) half finished flat in the Kelly House was a four to five star accommodation…not in my experience.
Did the think it already was or it could be? I missed that...
Either way, it's a great goal, but...nope, not family run and 5-star.
I think it takes a company/corporation to get the money to build it that high.
He wanted to get it just livable enough for them so they wouldn't have to rent it out.
I dont think the one gentelman is very ambishous
Too much procrastination and/or too many hands in the pot means that major decisions aren't being made to keep these grand country estates in the U.K. in good repair, restored and properly maintained. Many of them will continue to be lost to rot.
Quando guardo tutto ciò così detioriato mi duele e un castello 🏰 che anno storia da raccontare da antipasati anno un valore stimabile 😢😮
What a trek you guys, that was phenomenal! I'm going to w atch Remains of the day later, in honor of this magnificent place
Kind of like having an au pair from France come and take care of your children and teaching them!
Will be lovely. Hope the restoration is successful.
I will never understand how someone can be gifted an entire income generator and just let it rot. They had that house how long and couldn't think themselves "oh I better rent out a room or lead a tour or rent out land or lead a hunt so I can repair the rotten wall."
What a great place to shop!
Excellent......thank you for sharing the truth🌞
The host of the show seems to think that everyone should have at least her level of management & hospitality skills.
Please Rescue🏰🏠. They are full of history.
Find a way to get ahold of them.
i'd like to see a mix of this show and hoarders
I think everyone should have full time jobs!
thank you
An American would say that, if this woman is bringing these estates back from the brink of sale or abandonment and converting them into functional businesses she should be wearing a cape and some little red boots because her rescue work is nothing short of heroic for the estate owners.
She is not a hero. Its a scripted show. its her job to put the houses on the right track. It would not be very successful if she failed at her job. Just this Americans opinion
living on past laurels can only last few generation , go and do something productive , service or products
Is it possible to put the home in a trust to reduce or eliminate the inheritance tax?
If I'm not mistaken, the "boyfriend " doesn't have a vested interest in the property. That'll be interesting, from a legal point of view.
As he said, he is putting in effort for benefits which others are reaping. (paraphrasing)
31 generations? Wow
Selling step by step. This is how the Danes do it.
Just looked it up and it seems like there a wedding venue now which is nice
Brilliant !!
The books have to be worth a fortune, probably all first editions having been purchased generations ago.
Agree with @nancyaylward1176. Bed and Breakfast would be fabulous.
Who would do the cooking?
I'm thinking of a small village of tiny houses in the giant meadow. Victorian style homes, for retirees.
Yay! Count me in!
very good idea
The elderly need ready access to good healthcare and hospitals. Problematically, these old country estates were built at too much distance from these and other basic amenities, like grocery shopping.🖤🇨🇦
These people live in a dream world😒
I would plan/organize a “tour” of selected rooms within the structure that are safe.
Wish i could give this ten thumbs up
I think the crown should allocate monies to the estates since the title Squire does seem important. I don't think that Chris should be doing it. He's looking to live there as is I'd think so. Sophie has a vested interest by using her savings
Are there episodes where they show the finished work?
This may sound very ignorant as an American but should the Kings wealth pay for some of the repairs of these historic places? I honestly don’t know how these homes work. Are they apart of the royal history?
There should be.a fund to help them. So much history here.
I'm so offended that this estate isn't being taken care of, it's soon amazing
They show several estates.
Which one do you mean?
At least Chris admitted it was Sophie's money that paid for everything. Yet he's upset.
Why doesn’t he have any money???
I don’t know what you expected, after all this is a show on home improvement, painting is the first least expensive option to change and improve the feel of a room and brighten it up🕊
My goodness. Hypochondriac!
Whts your point.? They have to be painted. by by
@@daylehudson6810 They need to be painted a few weeks ahead of time with a portable Hepafilter run for a few days to take away the paint smell.
Come to americas south and east coast! So many beautiful properties need her
Have you considered making a wing of the house a Air B&B ..that might pay for repairs?
Which house?
i love the rolls royce for sure
Wondering if you have ever heard of the King mansion in Winona, MN? There was also the Watkins mansion in Winona. Lumber was a major industry.
Do tours!❤
Wow
Ruth 🌸🌸🌸
If you don't have the funds you can't restore it.
Thank you for your informat and interesting video. You didn't mention it so i am curious to know what the total weight of your backpack was?
I really think the present owner has been very neglectful, prefers playing with his hobbies. He is just plain lazy. His poor wife that can’t motivate him and his daughter trying to do a job that she is not cut out to do . Love is not enough. Sorry I ca t watch this episode to the end. If the present owner can’t be bothered m I can’t be bothered watching it . This mess hasn’t happened over night 🤨

All this because the owner is lazy. Such a shame. Maybe he should move into a bed sit and have those how who are stimulated to work should live and work there.
Probably had a domenering mother living and deciding
Why paint what hasn't been repaired?
Guests will reap the benefits and PAY the family, who will reap the ultimate benefits.
Those taxes killed a lot of country estates
And yet these ‘poor’ landowners still own all of the land and people like my relatives are still paying generations and generations later rent for farming.
That's just old England.
Move to the USA like my ancestors did. I have royal blood in my veins, but my ancestors were not the elder sons. You're English, you know that is how it goes. Thanks for your reply.
They need a blog and videos about the restoration. Call in artisans that would work cheaper for the publicity
