So hospitalisations and mortality will be a better indicator of severe covid - those are the ones we're worried about.

We have Polish friends and their parents were told by their media not long ago that the UK was in terrible trouble no food on the shelves, rioting etc. Her mom was so convinced she actually didnt believe her daughter when she denied it. Dont undersetimate the power of the media or those words television programmes (ing)

Memories are short and the media will now try to position themselves on the right side of the argument. The government also probably wants us to forget and advertising revenue is less restricted than during lockdown.

Because most people don't/ haven't died from covid they die from the complications of covid. Both my nans died of pneumonia, but they wouldn't have got pneumonia if they didn't get covid first. If someone dies from internal bleeding a week after a car crash should we say they didn't die from a car crash?

Because it doesn't impact them, as a key worker myself. Restrictions were roughly the same with or without lockdown. As I still had to travel to work every day & work in a busy transport office.

As a key worker I freely admit lockdown was the best time of my adult life. Empty roads because most people stayed at home. Wonderful shopping experiences because the 2 metre social distancing meant I had no idiots getting in my personal space.
And for a brief time as a cleaner at an NHS hospital I was actually accorded respect because there were less of us as anyone with fairly serious medical conditions had to shelter at home. The thought of the wards going uncleared made the doctors and nurses seem to appreciate us.
Too bad it didn’t last longer.

@@CyberSlammer2024 I doubt they would claim to be able to do so, they treat a patient, then observe the outcome, and make notes. Having worked alongside them, I can vouch for the seriousness with which they regard a death certificate, as an error can be distressing for a family, and impact a doctors progress.

Also Europe was Not counting people who feel off a roof and died within 28 days of a covid infection as a covid death.... Our numbers were fishy from the start, made no sense why our numbers were so much higher than Europe in the beginning.

Area under graph. They are suddenly catching up with us. We had flat line much higher than theirs. We have remained flat. They have surged higher in very short space of time. But total area under graph probably has us still higher than them over the last few months.

So? With an endemic disease ( as Covid is/will be) everyone will be exposed over time. The smart thing is to manage this as a steady flow, increasing immunity whilst not overwhelming health care. The goldilocks route.
Yes, but the entire point of lockdown was to prevent the NHS and healthcare system being completely overwhelmed.
This has effectively provided a trickle of COVID cases rather than a surge, and thus prevented the need for a lockdown.

How would anyone plan that exactly?
The reality is that sans the vaccine reducing the severity of cases then those numbers wouldn't be sustainable either. So it's not good fortune, as much as it is a successful vaccination drive and then natural immunity increasing over the year.
Why is most vaccinated countries like Guernsey & Israel have the highest Covid rates?
As the graph shows, UK has the same infections just continuous over a long period of time.

@@jakeb6176 That would be a good plan, but the NHS has the lowest ICU beds in Europe. UK has 7.3 beds/100,000 and Germany has 33.8. NHS was on the verge of breakdown even before Covid. Unlike other countries, UK is also losing more people from other diseases that have been on hold for months. Excess deaths highest in Europe. We're still in a worse position. Just pray for no winter surge for the NHS.

Comparing the deaths isn’t really that useful for accurate data as different countries use different methods to class a death as a covid related one.
Yes. Though the drops and highs are still comparable because they're using their own methods to tell if there an increase or decrease in their own country.
Can't accurately compare against other countries. But the highs and lows overtime, are comparable. It still represents how well a country is doing overall. Since even if their measurements are bad, a decrease is still a reduction, and an increase is still an increase.
but - grim fact - death rates overall can help one gauge if there's a pot&pandemic. Overall death rate has been average since May 2020. Death rate higher pre-2005 and that was with a lower population. They never show charts going back to 1940s. Numbers can be found on ONS site.

Their CV cases were climbing dramatically until a couple of months ago. And they all had masks on then. But when IVM treatment was allowed, two weeks later cases, hospitalization, deaths have since gone through the floor.
So masks are a red herring.
Do Europe count reinfections? The uk doesn’t. There also seem to be issues about the accuracy of the testing in the uk at at least one company. Looking at the deaths data, it would appear we’ve killed off the vulnerable early a comparison of infections and deaths over the full period and measured in the same way would’ve been useful.
When the financial system finally collapses, remember to track down news owners and editors for reprisals.

What data is being suppressed?
Perhaps reason is beginning to show through. If 94% of 16-24 year olds have been exposed and have antibodies then so have most of their parents and siblings. Surely immunity is now at levels that are effectively "herd". The problem now would appear to be the backlog resulting from lack of treatment during the pandemic. It has been a disaster, but perhaps there are reasons for optimism if government will just back off.

Adam Stephenson it's about casting as wide a net as possible to inflate the death stats. See that guy in Australia shot dead then tested then counted as a Covid death. The WHO have stipulated that stats be counted in this way. Nothing to see here, move along.

What I think is happening is that Europe overdid the lockdowns. UK opened and stayed open no matter what do far and it kind of worked in favor. Instead of having a big sudden surge of cases people were getting COVID gradually. This is the best solution for any pandemic like that (hard to track, extremely infectious), controlled spread. It wasn't possible before because of lack of vaccines which now protected most old and sick as well as slowed down the spread to just right levels
Yet Spain and Italy have been very strict and yet the situation is still quietly under control.
Supposedly many european countries are planning more lockdowns. If we don't have another lockdown our trade will boom.

Because since last Summer the number of cases in the UK is always about 35.000/40.000 per day, and the 7-day rolling average is still one of the highest in the world (22/11: UK 614,99; Germany 608,50; USA 285,54; Italy 158,15). That's it. Ignoring this and talking about a presumed better situation here, is British exceptionalism at his best.
Why does the the FDA not want the world to know the core vaccine information for 55 years....
Isn't it scientific to analyze how each country to records their testing? Do the other country's carry out testing the same way as we do? Who knows? That could be part of an explanation for a difference
The fact is we test far far more than Europe do
It is figures or on worldometres. Germany has for example not tested a million people yet. We have tested 5 million. Then look at those in hospital and dying with covid in other countries, we have under a thousand with covid in hospital yet Germany has far more.
I think Johnson has done appallingly BUT I don’t think testing is equal across countries.
Mass testing could affect case numbers, however hospitalisations and deaths shouldn't be affected as hospitals test people themselves on admission
