    I almost failed my essay for plagiarizing someone else's writing. Luckily I went to the center that helps students with their writing, and they told me about plagiarism. They told me I would fail my class, get a write-up, and possibly get expelled from my college if I ever plagiarized again. I was lucky I didn't submit my paper to my instructor because this video will be an example of the implications I'll face for plagiarizing. I learned my lesson to not plagiarize.

      Having done some research on this topic is that it is not that easy. If a student visits one of the many websites offering the service of writing their paper, it will likely pass the originality test, and this cheater/plagiarist is never caught. Most software is only able to find what is copied from freely available sources on the Internet.
      So, people who can affort it pay, and likely never get caught. Those who do not think or do not know, simply copy from the freely available source, say, Wiki, and get caught. Or they copy from a book, do not cite correctly, and the outcome is likely the same, being caught and get punishment for it.
      Either way, both types hurt themselfs in their way. Those being caught and, if it is not the first offence of that nature, are expelled and their future is ruined. Those who pass and get their degree, but never did any work or research of their own, basically paying their way to the degree, as soon as they enter the workforce, they will not be able to hold a job for very long. Or pass any skill tests, so as to gain entrance into a honest organization seeking qualified personell. They, too, ruin their future, it just takes time for the consequence and realization to impact their life.
      Also those who simply copy, they deprivate themselfs of the broadening of their knowledge, or the sense of accomplishment when they solved a particularly difficult piece of work. Yet, those who do, and most students do their work on their own, they will be the ones succeeding in life, those being looked for by the big companies with high income.
      -
      Add.: There is one more fact that is talked little about, and that is the financial aspect that can hit the person being caught of plagiarism. If found out, they can even be brought before court for it! So, they may ruin themselfs financially as well, if found out, being sued and found guilty! And this is very high amounts of money in some cases. See this video:

      Keiichi, writing is hard work that takes time and concentration. I suspect that most students who plagiarize, whether accidentally or not, do so because of time pressure. I tell my own students that doing research and making lots and lots of notes about what you learn from your research are good starts on avoiding plagiarism. Naturally, part of note-taking is collecting accurate citation data for your research sources. Microsoft Word has tools for creating a bibliography, so formatting for APA, MLA, and several other styles is fairly automated, assuming that the information in the citation is accurate. Again, (1) allowing plenty of time, (2) doing enough research, and (3) making abundant notes all help avoid plagiarism.

    I plagiarized once and i learned my lesson. I would feel guilty if i was expelled from college. Today i got my grade for a math quiz program and my teacher believe that i have copied someone elses work. When i didn't. I look at the examples and find a clue that could help me in the assignment. If i do have a chance i would ask for help from the teacher or ask my classmates for help meaning what can i do to make sure i dont have an error in my assignment. Meaning what do i type in for the assingment so i dont have an error. In all that i have said for that assingment i was never copying another students work. Never. I swear to God.

      As for any accusation, proof is required. You should definitely make a formal appeal to the school's Academic Integrity group if you haven't already done so. The accusation and proof should be in writing, along with detailed information about how to appeal it. Did you violate your school's academic integrity policy? I ask this because being accused once is bad, but being accused twice is very serious indeed. If there is proof, you may very well be expelled.

    • @RobinMcMullen
      @RobinMcMullen  3 роки тому +1

      A few key points, here. First, always make exhaustive notes about your sources. Forgetting where you found a particular image suggests that you may not be keeping careful enough notes as you do your research for images to animate. Second, owners of image copyrights sometimes grant permission to use their property, when requested. That said, they will usually stipulate terms and conditions for use. Third, there are abundant sources for royalty-free images. You pay a fee for the right to use an image, and again there are generally terms and conditions that you must agree to abide by. Fourth, you might experiment with rendering images yourself. (Drawing is 95% practice, 4% inspiration, and 1% talent.)

    This is a fair discipline for plagiarism and the department chair explained it well that is serious offense and against the law. However, in my college, if faculty members catches any of their students for academic dishonesty, the faculty will make a written complain to the academic integrity officer . After that the committee will determine what kind of consequences should a student get ranging from a F on on the assignment to an expulsion from the college depending on the student's discipline record and reputation.

      Hi, Rachel. Your college has an Academic Integrity policy developed specifically for dealing with situations like yours. You should inform yourself as soon as possible about the policy and about your options. You can probably find out more by checking with your instructor. Most teachers really hate to see a student fail because of cheating. You're always better off doing your own work regardless of the grade you might get. @@sabrinabelance6870 the video is based on the plagiarism policy of the university where I taught at the time. The man was chair of the computer science department and had had similar conversations with many students who had plagiarized. The scene is part of an online module I created for my own students on the importance of academic integrity.
