Interesting how the economic or social factors differ between your area in the UK and my area here in New England. There are very few "one man band" landscapers, and even they will always have at least a 36" stander or hydro as their main mower. Some do still have a 21" "push mower" on their trailer, but they're very nearly disposable compared to the $5-10k+ for a stander or hydro walk behind. Over here it's a volume game, as they need to work very quickly to compete. In most cases your "minimalist" approach seems much more pleasant and the results higher in quality.

I have the same issue, it seems a common fault with these mowers, If I cant find a roller that is capable then like you I may just get another one of these, I now use mine as purely a mulching mower, mulching hedge clippings. Mine lasted 3 years, and really did put it through some work, mulching and mowing.
Pretty sure it would be cheaper to get a new gearbox and drive stuff for the mower and maybe a new bag if the engine and BBC is all ok, heard the new one is actually worse 🤔 Hope you're well mate!
Hi there. Thanks or posting this. I’m in the process of persuading my dad to get rid of his four old unreliable mowers in favour of a new HRX 537. My local dealer has offered to take all four away and sell them and is offering me the new Honda HRX 537 for £1300 delivered & set up. My dad is a fit 88 year old and wants to keep moving - so doesn’t want a ride-on, which I’m happy with. So this new mower will only be dealing with his flat-ish third of a acre lawn. Would you say that this is a good one to go for and that the quality is still there with Honda? Thanks again for the video. 👍
Honda lawnmower engines are basically indestructbale. Ive got about a 12 year old ish JCB lawnmower with a honda engine thats definitely done a lot of miles and still runs perfectly. Shame my 3 year old Mac Allister's drive broke because the engine on that is great, but now I've got a new Mountfield with a honda engine that is even better
I've got a 20 yr old ride on mower on it's last legs and I'm thinking about replacing it with a self propelled walk behind when the time comes. I only have 2/3 of an acre but it is pretty hilly, with more than it's fair share of rabbit holes and mole hills (rural location). Do you think a mower like the HRX 537 could cope with the rough ground? I don't mind walking a bit and also thinking a walk behind would be easier for dodging the trees!
My oleo Mac 21 inch honda gcv160 mower has stopped working again for the second time, I think it needs a new carborettor, I would love to replace it with the new 16 inch honda izy but I need money for that 😔

Guys can someone please advise me, I’m thinking of getting a Toro 20965/21768. It will be only my second mower. But I keep seeing all the professionals with these Honda mowers. My first ever mower was an argos job Qualcast. It’s done me ok over the years but I want to buy a proper mower now. Im not a professional and will only ever use it in my own lawn. My lawn is about 2 x tennis courts and slightly hilly/uneven. I tend to mulch more than bag. I only bag to collect leaves. Just wondering wether the toro is a good choice or is there any other make model out there?
Have had that model toro, all things considered it's a good versatile, light, easy to use and reliable machine for such little money. If you want to know the downsides then it does not bag well, it mulches ok'ish, does not deal with wet grass well at all, either mulching or bagging, the finish is not great and it leaves very persistent wheel marks in the grass. It's very good for the money but if you have 3 times the budget of the toro then the honda hrx 537 is actually a very similar mover in terms of versatility and ease of use. The difference is that the hrx does everything much much better than the toro. If finish is important to you then you can't go wrong with a Lawnflite 553 hrs pro hs. A very heavy old school style roller mower which will give you a workout but bags even wet grass really well and leaves a really nice finish. You can buy an additional Mulching plug for it but I've never mulched with one so can't comment on how well it mulches. Similar money to an hrx 537. Good luck 👍

You ought to see my mower. Basically inherited it from my grandad. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a good couple decades old

Have you had a price to replace the gearbox?
Yes just a rough price but there are other issues that are making me replace it as well as the gear box.
