Being useless, eh.. sort of, but it still does a decent job.
Also putting a deep black will be bad for those that don't have AMOLED Displays because it'll drain more battery.
Would be cool if companies start to include a 3rd option called Deep Black.
Kind of like what Reddit does. You have white (default), you can choose Dark Mode (suitable for any display), and Deep Black mode which is pure black (Suitable best for AMOLED only displays.)

don't know why anyone ever thought white was good anyway. our eyes actually function better in the dark and displays burn-in with brighter display so dark mode should've been the norm ages ago.

Using dark mode on IPS will make your phone drain much faster... In IPS your screen uses voltage to produce dark color.. Voltage is needed to rotate the liquid crystals polarization that is to block the back-lit to produce dark colors

Now with iOS 13, you have system wide Dark Mode with True Tone working. On iOS 12, you can have Dark Mode but True Tone doesn't work when you use it.

Bought a Windows phone some years back and it had dark mode. I was hooked. When Windows announced it was not supporting their phones anymore I got a Samsung Galaxy Lite and it has dark mode. Left them for LG and every one I've purchased has a dark mode. Made the mistake of getting an HTC and it doesn't have dark mode nor can the home screens loop. A couple of weeks ago I got a Moto g7 Power that's "supposed" to have dark mode but the Message, Dialing and Settings screens are still in the light/white mode😥 when you turn on Dark Mode. What kind of crazy crap is that? If I had known I would have gotten another LG when I ported over.
Yep. It's more comfortable on the eyes and good for battery life. My phone is totally blacked out. I love it. It adds a custom look that's different.

MIUI 9 had a black theme.. I used that.. then it got updated to MIUI 10 and the theme got disabled in the theme store.. but my phone is still carrying it well.. I have a black wallpaper.. black notifications panel.. dark mode apps mostly and have not actively chosen to make everything black.. as sometimes the contrast between black and white does look good and too much of black leaves me craving for white.. so I go for the delicate balance..
