At the beginning of the second song it was actually Screech calling his girlfriend. When he couldn't get a hold of patrick, he tried his girlfriend next. In reality, his girlfriend was actually with Patrick. Although that isn't openly depicted in the video, ren did a promotional stunt before the release of the video and it's all found out in that. Anyway, thank you for the reaction! Keep them coming. The Ren Rabbit Hole runs very very deep
@@BustingtheBox You may have missed that small nugget of the story, but your description of the plight people like Jenny & James (Screech) find themselves in, more than made up for it. Another great reaction, and we could actively see your discomfort. I'm pleased you made it through though. Ren does have some lighter material... honest... tends to be a bit more rap/hiphop though. Although you could go back 7 years to watch a younger Ren. About 26 years old I think. Still ill, but being positive - Something like "Ren - It's Alright (Official Music Video)" from his 1st album "Freckled Angels" ... ua-cam.com/video/hCsQDY8A6og/v-deo.html Either way, I'm looking forward to your next reaction, whatever it is.
Ren made a short film that is a companion piece to screech’s tale. It called ‘ Ren - Screech’s Tale Instagram Stories‘. It’s on you tube . So Ren created a short film - no music just acting - it follows Screech’s life just up to the point where he meets Jenny on that fateful night . Not many fans or reactors seem to have seen this short masterpiece. Apparently when Ren released it in short instagram snippets folks were so shocked bec it was so realistic that Instagram threatened to close REN’s account and Ren had to explain that it wasn’t real . We were NOT in fact following a livestream of a young thug but it was part of a story .It shows the relationship that Screech had with his girlfriend - that we get a hint of in Screech’s tale where he yells at her bec she is busy . The film explores the relationship bet Screech and his mates including Patrick and even more interesting we get a glimpse into Screech’s home life . and that ties in with what you said about betrayal - this extreme anger in young men often has a route in betrayal and here Ren shows his mastery in character development . He could easily have a future in film making as well as music. Have a look at the short film . No once has done a reaction to it so far - I think its brilliantly done ..
Yes, you may note that the narrator switched roles and actually become screech in the passage just before the phone call, when he was knocking on Patrick's door.@@BustingtheBox
You didn’t miss a thing and your emotional response was entirely appropriate and a testimony both to your and Ren’s humanity. Thank you for your gentle intelligence. The world of reaction videos needs a lot more voices like yours.
This was probably the best reaction to the trilogy that I have seen (and I've seen a lot). You picked up things that I've never seen anyone pick up before. As others have said, you were very insightful. You're absolutely spot on, of course. This isn't meant to be enjoyed as such. Appreciation is I think a more appropriate word. Ren is all about highlighting stuff that can make you uncomfortable, and bringing it into the open. He DOES have a ton of dark subject matter in his music, but he also has fun and uplifting stuff, too. He's very socially aware. I don't know if anyone has mentioned his video where he thanked everyone for hitting one million subscribers. You don't necessarily have to react to it, but I highly recommend it. He's a gem of a human, we need more like him. Thank you for the excellent reaction 😊
Really?, I don't think he got it completely, he seemed to be stuck on REN being the narrator only, he didn't seem to get that he goes in and out of character. Also not sure he understood fully that jenny and screech were twins separated at birth, they didn't know they were brother and sister.
Thank you so much! I have purposely not looked at anything by Ren so that I would not be influenced when I do reactions. Maybe I should see that, though.
I understood about the siblings. I messed up on the Screech phone call because I had it stuck in my head that Screech was only 14. When I watched it all a second time, a lot of things became more clear.
@gggghhgggghbb it's definitely one of the most insightful reactions I've seen to date, particularly right after Jenny's Tale, and then at the end. He caught the parallels between Screech and his father, and Jenny and her mother. He caught the generational trauma. He speculated about the likelihood of both Jenny and Screech having lived very underprivileged and probable abusive lives so far. Definitely a great reaction to this. It's possible he may not have clicked that they were separated at birth (though to be honest I didn't get that vibe) but for a first time hearing/watching, I thought he made some excellent observations 😊 I think for those of us who have seen this multiple times, it sort of lessens the impact somewhat. It clearly was upsetting for him. He certainly picked up and articulated far more than I did after my first watch. I just sat there with my jaw dropped. 😯
I don't think I have reacted to someone who understood this better... Probably the Fable Sphere is up there with you. Honestly you are just a joy to watch. You don't just react. You listen, you process, and you give us something much more than a reaction, but a life lesson or advice, or even just knowledge. It is humbling to hear your emotional maturity. New sub here!
The generational rut! You are what you are born into. That is the only world you know. most do not get out of it.!! also, you are right on with the mother knowing most of the time. it's very sad but what's to do??? It truly flows thru each generation and does not stop... yes history repeats itself!!
Great reaction, only, I'm pretty sure Ren was still playing the part of Screech when he made the phone call, looking for somewhere else to hide after his friend Patrick was not home. You are, as a lot of people have already noted, very insightful. Thank you for your viewpoint. So much more to discover from Ren. Excited to see your journey. I highly recommend an older video from his back catalogue called "Crutch". Love from the U.K. 😊
As somone who has worked in mental health, and has suffered myself considerably, the experiences I have seen people overcome would make the story in this trilogy sound tame. We most definitely have free will. I am not disputing that it can be very difficult, but how quickly and how easily a life can turn around has left me God smacked. And as much evil can be found in the world, there is just as much good, but you find what you look for.
It’s kicked you in the gut, that’s what it’s supposed to do. Your reactions are great, you have an amazing understanding of what you are watching and hearing. I’m so glad that you’re reaching to REN and I look forward to you doing more. Thank you.
What an intelligent and insightful reaction. Without knowing the ending you spoke to so much of what was to come. Such a hard trilogy. If you haven't watched the video that Ren released when he hit 1,000,000 subscribers, you should. It isn't a music video, but shows you more into Ren as the wonderful human being he is. And for me, was one of the most uplifting things I've ever seen in my life. Gives me faith in humanity that he is in the world.
Absolutely nailed this breakdown ❤❤❤ not many get the passe way says such a shame in a flippant way, this is vital to his story and part of what inspired him to write this masterpiece. Excellent job
I have seen this reacted many times, and 90% of the reactions are hard hitting. Lots of people say I have no words and than end their video. In my opinion when Ren made this it was with the intent to make people feel uncomfortable hit in the gut, because people just go around in life and brush it off as a shame, but if your affected emotionally it resignates with you on a different level. Ren wrote the first part Jennys tale after reading an article in the newspaper about this young girl, who was a prostitute who was murdered and the at the end of the article the police said "its such a shame". Ren was bothered by this response and he wrote Jenny's tale. Once again very i tuitive reaction. Very real, I could see in your face how it was making you feel emotionally its a real thing and he can write and preform this so you can visualize it i your mind. He causes many emotional responses in people its one of the beautiful things he does. It has given men a feeling that its ok to cry, even infront of thousand of people and only recieve love and kindness and support from the viewers. His music has allowed people to become human again snd to feel. Its truly amazing. Next maybe "For Joe" and "Su!cide" it brings awareness to this issue. His best friend Joe committed suicide 13 years ago and it has affected immensely contributing hugely to his mental health. You can have the rest of the story after you hear the two songs. S first than For Joe!!! All my love thanks again.
It's very odd for me to let people on the internet see my emotions laid bare. I rarely get emotional. Ren does something to me. Thanks for your comments.
@@BustingtheBoxHe does this to almost everyone. I even had to cry listening to some of his songs and i dont get that emotional so fast too. A reaction to Chalk Outlines or/and crutch would be great. Both are pretty heavy. If you want some lighter stuff, do one on Power or the bittersweet symphony retake. Genesis would be somewhat in between. Great work!
I feel your pain, It's a difficult one, a dichotomy of feelings. On one hand, the story is horrifying, upsetting and graphic, but on the other hand the lyricism, the virtuoso guitar playing, the performance, the story telling and the fact that they are live single take performances is astounding... It is like a Shakespearean tragedy for modern times, with that chilling twist at the end... its a masterpiece, albeit a very sad one.
I will probably enjoy it more when I view it in the future. I was so caught up in the story that I emphasized the tragedy maybe too much. That's the weird thing about doing first-time reactions. It's different for every person.
I think it is important to listen and think about such difficult topics. The music and poetry helps it easier to digest. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
Superb reaction Matt. I'm just sorry it struck so deep being one of those who suggested it! But that's because you care and clearly have great concern for those who are the real life subject matter of this trilogy. So does Ren, which makes it bearable to watch and more so, to appreciate his art. Look forward to continuing the journey with you and as other's have said, there is plenty of material from Ren that will make you smile!! Take it easy.
This was a great reaction, very insightful. Ren is a true artist - he sings about sadness, tragedy, joy, silliness, love, anger, aggression, grief, despair ... and I think he's reminding us that these things are all real, and that it's important to connect with them.
GREAT reaction ❤This is the most intelligent and eloquent reaction to this song I have seen, and I have watched 100s of reactions to this. Ren does have fun songs also try Humble with Ren and Eden Nash.
Ren is such a good actor playing all the characters as well as the narrator. Easy to mistake who is making the phone call. Your reaction was incredibly inciteful
I got that Jenny was a lady of the night since she’s walked the streets a thousand times before? When you learn Ren’s story his music takes on so many layers. I’m so glad you are reacting to his songs. They mean a lot to a lot of people.
When I watched it a second time, it became clear to me that Jenny was a prostitute. She had high-heel shoes and walked the streets. I missed a few things the first viewing.
I’ve been listening to Ren for a long time now and I missed it! This was the first time I got it, it never hit me before but I don’t listen to this trilogy very much at all.
Thank you so much again for the analysis. I was upset& so very sad the first time I watched this at the realisation that screech had killed his sister but did not know it. We try to live a good life, but the world is broken. REN is truly a golden soul sent to help people. I love him to bits ❤🙏
Another great reaction video from you. Agree with you. It is art. A bit like going to see a play, a modern day tragedy, in three acts. Like all great art and music it’s reflective of our times with timeless themes. I enjoyed your reaction video very much. Great stuff
When Ren picks up the phone he's playing the part of Screech again, desperate for somewhere to hide out. After the call and Ren when puts the phone in his pocket. He stands straight and goes back to the Narrator mode. But as Ren has said in the Interviews he's done on YT with other reactors. Everyone's interpretation of his songs maybe different, but everyone is valid. 😊
When I watched this, I listened to your breakdown of Jenny's tale, wow. You hit on so many points that have been looked over by other reactors. I cried while you watched Violets Tale. Thank you so much for your breakdown. You have a beautiful soul, we need more people like you that seems to really get what Ren is doing. Ren's artistry, tends to bring up some emotions in us all❤
These songs came out a few years ago and not all at the same time. I remember waiting for the next one to drop. Your observation were the most spot on of the many reactors I have seen over the last year or so. It is a shame that this is a normal thing in our world.
You were made for this. I gotta say I've seen all 3 of your reaction s to Ren so far and am just astounded everytime. Thanks for doing these. I could see the pain in your face at times on this one and understand it was a tough pill to take. You did absolutely phenomenal. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your reaction your insight on this being your first time watching it is amazing, your insight and explanation of this trilogy is very good if not somewhat shocking . I will subscribe to your channel and look forward to hearing more from you.
Another FANTASTIC reaction! You just don't miss! Your insights about trauma, musings about freedom of the will and fatalism, and your compassion resonate with me so much, man. I'd love to make a request. Since you just happen to be reacting to all the songs that are super important to me, I'd love to get your take on Bo Burnham's "Kanye Rant." A bit of backstory just in case you decide to watch it; Bo got his start in abrasive musical shock-comedy. The kind of "edgy" shock-value humor a 15 year old 90s/Early 00's kid might find funny. He ended up maturing quite a bit, and has become in my view THE most profound and poignant musical comedian of all time. He suffers from a panic disorder. He was having frequent panic attacks on stage mid-performance. His "Kanye Rant" was his last live performance. I'm a bit biased because I, too, left the public eye due to a panic disorder. I wasn't famous or anything, but nevertheless I was so moved by this piece that I ask all of my favorite reactors to watch it. It's a masterpiece, musically, visually, lyrically, and thematically. It's funny, it's a gut punch, and it's interesting. I hope you give it a watch, and share your thoughts about it if you do. And if you do watch it and find it as great as I do, you should check the follow-up song "All eyes on me." He was just about to re-enter the public world after his 5 year break following "Kanye Rant" when the Pandemic hit, keeping him stuck inside, and spawning what I consider his Magnum Opus, his Netflix special "Inside."
Had to watch this again. Concerning Jenny, she was in high heel shoes in a dark alley late at night. She had rosie on her cheeks--perhaps makeup. She is 14 years old. Ren mentioned I beleive that part of his inspiration for the tales was a news article about a young prostitute who was knifed to death in London. Knife violence is much more prevalent in the UK since guns are banned; even knives are somewhat banned in size. There is also supposition that when Screech called his girlfriend, she did not want to see him becuase she was with Patrick! That would be why Patrick did not answer the door. Speculation, yet, but plausible. There is so much we can read into the lack of details. What this says to me is that Ren put just enough clues in for our imagination to run wild. I was speechless the first time I heard this.
On second viewing, I immediately saw that Jenny was a prostitute. I wished that I had noticed this the first time around. Also, I saw my mistake with the phone scene. It's a lot to take in in one shot. That's why it's important to watch it many times. All good art needs to be viewed many times. Thanks for the comments.
One of the best reactions I have seen to this video! You picked things up that a lot of other reactors missed on first watch through. Ren's writing and performance in this are stunning. The fact he can tell this in a way that impacts our emotions to this degree is impressive. But you are correct, it is not an easy story to hear. But I feel it is so important to raise awareness that this happens more commonly than a lot of people are aware of. If you want some lighter Ren songs, check out Genesis, Animal Flow, Power or Losing It. ❤
Am watching now and love your take at the end of Jenny's tale. Very very inciteful! 👌🕊👌 Edit. This is the best reaction I have seen to this tragedy. Please listen to Power next, I promise it won't kick you in the gut 🙂
Best reaction to this that ive seen so far. You already picked up on things by the end of jennys tale that most dont see until the end on Violets tale some dont even see it then. The way you knew straight off that Jenny had been through alot by the end of her tale most dont its like shes not important and they only focus on screech and his behaviour. Great to see someone pay attention to everyone in the story and see they all matter not just the dominant one. Also through it was screech that called his girlfriend not the narrator. Great video! Look forward to your next one. At some point check out For Joe but Ren its part of another triligy freckled angels but For Joe hit me the most.
Loving the Ren reactions! Money Game 1 is another live performance one shot video with a bit of a different message to the songs you've done of REN so far😊
You're reaction has to be the most intelligent of reactions that i have seen. I believe you see this piece of art as Ren seen it when he wrote this. I am definitely with you on your next Ren reaction. He will take you on the most emotionally charged journey that anybody could take you on. I'm strapped in to ride the coaster again but with you this time❤ love from the UK 🇬🇧
Hey Matt, hope you're ok. Violet's tale in particular is not easy to watch. You seem like an empathetic person. I feel like your reaction saying you didn't enjoy it yet you got a lot out of it is appropriate and fair. Such an interesting question about Screech and free will. I have to believe people's lives can change for the better despite generational trauma but it's not easy. You might appreciate a lighter side of Ren's music next. Power is upbeat and catchy and has a positive message despite touching on some difficult things in his past. His cheeky and lighthearted retake of the Fisher EDM track Losing It is good fun. 1990s is nostalgic fun. Ready For You has a positive message. He has done some great covers with his band the Big Push (on their channel). Their original song It's Alright is lovely. Ren's Love Music series will make you want to get up and dance. I particularly love 1-3, and am a bit ambivalent about part 4. If you want to hear Ren talking about positive stuff, check out his 1 million subscribers video.
The most Insightful reaction I've seen to this yet. The overwhelming emotion you showed towards the end spoke volumes about the violent tragedy of it all. Ren has that fantastic ability to hook the listeners into the story and leave them reeling with thoughts about the significance of it. In the case of Jenny, Screech and Violet, I was left thinking about how a vicious cycle of violent abuse can easily lead us to killing each other, symbolically in this case a brother and sister. Thanks, Matt.
Quality reaction mate, I think you had the response to this as a lot of people, you can appreciate the storytelling and the performance but it is genuinely unsettling, I’m only surmising but I think Ren wanted to shine a light on these subjects as you say are a lot more common than we like to believe
I really appreciate your insights and intellegent reacitons. Toward the end of part three, I could easily see your unease and empathy for the victim named Violet, and how vicerally you witnessed this crime against humanity. It left me questioning what I might be able to do to somehow make this situation bettor as a fellow human being. I haven't found my answer yet, but I salute Ren for making me face the question !
I don't think there are any easy answers, David. That's the tragedy of it. Throwing money at these problems doesn't seem to help or break the cycle. It's a very difficult reality, one that seems to be getting worse all the time.
I have watched a ton of reactions to these songs. I have NEVER seen someone immediately pick up on the theme of trauma so early. When I heard you talk about it after Jenny's song, I knew Violet's Tale was going to hit you like a truck. Internet hugs dude! Great reaction, and it hits everyone hard the first time.
Ren is a true Bard. the fact that you're feeling what you feel is all down to how he can convey the story. The settings, the ambiences, usage of scenery for lighting and acoustic definition, the language, the vocal shifts, the characterisation, EVERYTHING you see and hear is designed to do that to you. And Ren is a master at it. The way he can hold the mirror up to the awful things in this world, and keep you locked in to watching it is everything a true artist should aspire to. Art is not always nice, it should be evocative, even heretical sometimes.
Thank you for another wonderful reaction. If you're planning to continue reacting to Ren, I'd love to see you do Chalk Outlines (live) or Crutch. Both are on the heavier side, but much more personal to Ren.
Your empathy and deep understanding seeps out of you. Ren's ability to bring up the difficult things to hear/talk about is something ive never come across. I was a Violet who was lucky enough to be fostered by parents who stood beside me, put up with my behaviours and showed me consistency, values and love. I HAVE broken the cycle. Despite being a single parent, my children are wonderful human beings &productive members of society. Unfortunately, my trauma has caught up with me and at 47 im having to find outside help so i can find better ways of dealing with it. Because i tried so hard to work my way through my trauma on my own, putting absolutely everything into ignoring mental symptoms of inner turmoil, my physical health has failed (FND) But! Thanks to the guidance of my parents, ive not turned to drink or drugs and am going through multi disciplinary treatment. I realise i am one of the lucky ones. That for so many out there (my bio mum included) its such a different tale. I appreciate you sticking with it. Your raw honesty and absolute nail on the head depiction of this hard hitting trilogy. You really are a Gentleman 🫂 hugs from the UK!
Yes... more great insight and a great reaction. Glad you are getting to see all these different levels of Rens magnificent artistry. More to come eh whatever next?
Very insightful reaction, you were one of the few I've seen who fully understood all the nuances of this song at a first listen. Generational trauma is a sad, pervasive thing that ruins lives from the onset, and it is, as Ren would put it "such a shame"
Wow I could write a whole essay about how good your review and analysis of this is. What is your profession? You’d probably make a great English lit teacher. I’m glad you also recognized and noted REN’s artistic talents. I know this was difficult to get through but don’t give up on Ren. He has so much more to offer. I am very pleased to hear you will watch it again. He does have some fun stuff too. Keep exploring Ren, please!! I’ve seen every reaction to this on UA-cam and I have my favorite reactors and all but this was truly the best reaction I’ve ever seen to The Tales. Thank you!!
Thank you, Barbara. I really appreciate your feedback. Funny you say it, but I was an English Lit teacher for 20 years. Thank you for your interest in my videos. I'm looking forward to the next video!
You're too good at this reaction game 😂😂😂 its surprising how many reactors miss the bombshell, the last two lines of these tales, delivers... but you nailed it... but the "oh shit" moment at the beginning of Screech's tale was brilliant, glad you kept it in😂😂😂
Thanks for a great reaction. You’re going to be inundated with suggestions for what to react to next from Ren, but I’d like add to my suggestion. Someone suggested you watch his response to getting 1million subscribers, and I agree with them. I think you’d enjoy reacting and analysing to how people deal with Fame. Also I’d suggest Money Game 1 & 2 (the official videos, not the live version), as these are Ren’s takes on Politics and Economics.
Thanks for your suggestions. My plan is to do Money Game next. I purposely haven't learned anything about Ren, except from comments here, because I want to react blind without too many biases. I'll definitely take a look when the dust has settled, though. Cheers!
I love your reactions. You are very insightful… if you want something lighter after that brilliant but dark tale, try Humble, Ocean, Ready for You, all beautiful and uplifting also RENs collabs with his band The Big Push…. I Shot the Sheriff , Road to Zion, Hip Hop, is musically wonderful and very joyful…. ❤
At my age, I'm surprised to have tears come to my eyes when you talk about Jenny's freeze response. My early life made me what I thought was tough but twice in my early life I froze in very dangerous situations. Now I understand that. Thank you.
I felt the same way the first time that I watched this. I thought "amazing.... but I won't/can't watch it again.". However, after a few days, I bucked up the courage, and did in fact watch it again. I have since enjoyed watching the consternation of reactors such as you. I am a Sub.
You're insight was astounding. You can see how difficult this was for you to watch. What a thoughtful insight you brought. Thank you for being so eloquent.
"...maybe this is going to be a humorous video, we shall see." ... yup, Life is "funny" like that. But you got the meaning very fast, IMHO. Jenny "walked the streets", late at night, high heels, makeup, and breast somewhat exposed for Screech to put a knife in. Ren does not believe in wasting words, so EVERY word is chosen for Reasons.
Wow, your beautiful insight into this haunting reality of human life was so great, Ren taking the stage and opening up this conversation is so enlightening, thank you thank you again for sharing, it is really hard to watch, I still cry now, such a shameeeeee, let’s not be uneducated about human behaviours, thank you 🙏🦉❤️🐊👍
Hi Matt, another educated anylisis on the horrible circle of life, like yourself I endured rather than enjoyed but I stand in awe of Ren and the subjects he has brought to the world which watching you the discomfort real healthy humans feel and like so many subjects in life are known by so many, yet are tacitly ignored. I personally am not perfect but I live my life without hatred of any person or any factors in life. Peace and Love Sir, 🏴🏴🏴🏴
That was the best response to this. It covered everything and included whats happening now. It may be a stretch, but could this be a modern day little red riding hood. Overall i think it is an awaking message for many that do not know what is going on.
from an artistic perspective this performance reminds me of a Tarantino movie, think Pulp Fiction.... the inverted timeline, the strong themes, the violence, the language, the announced tragedy, the social commentary, the reveal at the end, and the artistic merit are just so reminiscent of it as is the pure artistry of the performance and the way he pays homage to the stylings of the past (in this case the bardic traditions that saw tales of virtue and morality sung to the illiterate masses for their entertainment... I guess there's a reason Ren calls this style Bardcore) This could easily have been a movie starring Samuel L Jackson in one of the side-roles...
Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery that it gets physically uncomfortable at times - especially in Violet’s Tale. Yet it’s impossible to look away. Ren pulls you in and demands attention. And he uses his power to shed light on issues that are far too real for far too many people 😢 Great reaction. Very insightful and empathetic. The only thing I think you got wrong was the phone call. Notice the heavy breathing before and after. It’s Screech panicking when Patrick isn’t home and so he tries to find refuge at his girlfriend’s place but loses it when she is busy. Though if it had been the narrator making the call then your analysis of that would probably be spot on 😅 Either way I liked your deep understanding of the tragic tales and all the characters within them. Very rough stories to get through but so masterfully told. Ren is truly something special.
I love how you really get into the characters with real thought and depth. Hearing you break down the characters lives in this way it brings them to life tht much more. I cant wait to see the rest of your ren reactions. And if you're like anyone else that loves the incredible musicianship and story telling and the fact that you cant put ren in any type of box because he defies all genres of music, then You'll be at this for a long time. Ren has a very extensive catalogue if songs and a couple of bands and collaborations with several other artists.
I’ve absolutely loved your Ren reactions. Hearing your comments through them, I’d be so interested in what you’d think about Bo Burnham. I think you’d really take a liking to him if you weren’t already familiar. He’s a comedian and songwriter around the same age. If you ever go down the Bo rabbit hole, Welcome to the Internet is a common starting place. His not-to-miss songs are Funny Feeling, Kanye Rant, and Art Is Dead. It’s really important, though-provoking stuff. Either way, grateful for the reactions you’ve done and look forward to more!
Power would be a great next reaction, I've seen it mentioned already in the comments and I agree... Lifestyle, great music, but also uplifting and a positive twist to hard lives. This was by far one of the best reactions I've seen, and looking forward to seeing more! I also like to ask people to watch his 1 million subscriber speech to learn more about who he is/what his heart is really about. He's an amazing human, just trying to make the world a better place one hard issue at a time.
I’m so sorry. I felt so bad when you said bother video was hard to watch. I knew we were at the point where the video breaks ppl’s faces. This is the first reaction I’ve teared up watching.
Another amazing review! Picking out so many things that others have missed. It’s wild to me that you easily find so many things that almost everybody else seems to miss. Great job sir!
Oh what a fantastic rxn to this tale. I really enjoyed your review and analysis as it gave me many more things to think about - thank you. Watching the pain of realization on your face as the story went along was hard to see. I do wish people would really open their hearts & minds and know that this happens all over the world, every day. This line really hits me in the gut when Stevie is beating Violet - "Do you think I want to do this Violet?" Sadly, a typical thing abusers do; blame the victim for their abuse. You don't have to solve this yourself - support organizations that actually help victims of abuse. If you can't donate funds - donate time or supplies. Imagine that one of these sad victims could have reached their full potential and been the one who found a cure for cancer, for world peace...to have been the person who reached out to you or a loved in a time of crisis. Stop the cycle of violence and trauma.
This was indeed the most intelligent reaction I have ever seen for this piece of art. Thank you so much. I love listening to your analyses of our society.
Prisons are full of people people who come from trauma they are not evil they are mentally ill. Same as the drug addicts who self medicate and the homeless who are running away from trauma. It’s shameful we ignore the suffering and just walk by and don’t even ask why! Wonderful intelligent reaction thank you! 👏
Great reaction video, Matt! I believe your insights are very important as they shed light on the reality of trauma and remind us that it’s okay to talk about. It may even motivate someone to seek help for themselves or another. Not everyone (including some therapists I’ve met) has a good understanding of the alcoholic family system and/or the cycle of domestic violence. I’ve heard it said in recovery, “our secrets keep us sick” and I‘m also familiar with the idea that “hurt-people hurt people.” Through his art, I believe Ren also reminds us to: Hurt less. Love more.
Hey Matt - you’re doing a wonderful job with your reactions. Honest, genuine, thoughtful insights. But, my friend, if you do another Ren reaction, please do what I do, which is mix in some lighter fare. I always have a good time watching Ren and The Big Push doing covers of Bongo Bong, Englishman in NY, and steet performances that really show off his talent at singing and guitar playing AND the other guys in the band are amazing. 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
This was the most intelligent, fast and profound anticipation and interpretation of this masterpiece I‘ve ever seen 👍🏻
Kind of you to say. Cheers!
Totally agree. Ren is a fellow countrymen of mine and thats the best and most honest review I've seen, from anywhere.
💯
Agreed.
Absolutely! 💯 This is why I love your reactions. Very insightful.
Yes, I messed up the phone call part. Thanks!
Still ill, but being positive - Something like "Ren - It's Alright (Official Music Video)" from his 1st album "Freckled Angels" ... ua-cam.com/video/hCsQDY8A6og/v-deo.html
Either way, I'm looking forward to your next reaction, whatever it is.
@@Gazzeroo Thanks, man!
@BustingtheBox You're welcome! It's worth your time. It really helps you to see what type of person he is. So genuine and humble. He's a good dude.
Gee, Guadalupe, I'm really honored that you feel this way. Thank you for the kind and thoughtful feedback.
I couldn’t agree more.
SAME..new sub here too❤
@@elisaacello592 yep here too
The generational rut! You are what you are born into. That is the only world you know. most do not get out of it.!! also, you are right on with the mother knowing most of the time. it's very sad but what's to do??? It truly flows thru each generation and does not stop... yes history repeats itself!!
Very sad but true.
Maybe Patrick not being home, and his girlfriend not having time at the moment is not a coincidence.
Thank you, Angie. Yes, I messed up that one bit. Cheers!
@@BustingtheBox Easily done. Having said that, I think you are one of the most observant reactors I've seen. I'm sorry if I sound patronising. 🙊X
These are great comments. Thank you!
It’s kicked you in the gut, that’s what it’s supposed to do. Your reactions are great, you have an amazing understanding of what you are watching and hearing. I’m so glad that you’re reaching to REN and I look forward to you doing more. Thank you.
I appreciate that!
Okay. Thank you.
Absolutely nailed this breakdown ❤❤❤ not many get the passe way says such a shame in a flippant way, this is vital to his story and part of what inspired him to write this masterpiece. Excellent job
Thank you!
@@BustingtheBox No, I don't think so. It's a really tragic story. So many people gloss over it
@@BustingtheBox I think Ren REALLY wanted us to feel the tragedy so that we'd take steps to DO something instead of just saying, "It's such a shame."
I think it is important to listen and think about such difficult topics. The music and poetry helps it easier to digest. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
You're right I believe.
I'm very glad to have watched Jenny and Screech. It wasn't easy but excellent all the same. Thanks for recommending it.
His true gift is opening channels to have these difficult conversations more openly. In my humble opinion. Great insight in your reaction.😢❤
Thank you, Brooke!
This was a great reaction, very insightful. Ren is a true artist - he sings about sadness, tragedy, joy, silliness, love, anger, aggression, grief, despair ... and I think he's reminding us that these things are all real, and that it's important to connect with them.
He is really affecting me, and I'm three songs in!
Great reaction! You are clearly a very compassionate human being, both educated & very socially aware. I really enjoy your insight 😊
Very nice of you to say. Thank you!
GREAT reaction ❤This is the most intelligent and eloquent reaction to this song I have seen, and I have watched 100s of reactions to this. Ren does have fun songs also try Humble with Ren and Eden Nash.
Okay. Thank you!
Ren is such a good actor playing all the characters as well as the narrator. Easy to mistake who is making the phone call.
Your reaction was incredibly inciteful
Thanks, Helen!
I got that Jenny was a lady of the night since she’s walked the streets a thousand times before?
When you learn Ren’s story his music takes on so many layers. I’m so glad you are reacting to his songs. They mean a lot to a lot of people.
As screech is 14 at the time, means she is as well.
@@RichardRietdijk yes, I understand that. I never said she was older. Unfortunately this happens to young girls and always will.
When I watched it a second time, it became clear to me that Jenny was a prostitute. She had high-heel shoes and walked the streets. I missed a few things the first viewing.
We all miss things the first time we experience Ren's art.
I wasn't as horrified the second time I watched it. Thanks, Norah.
Another great reaction video from you.
Agree with you. It is art. A bit like going to see a play, a modern day tragedy, in three acts. Like all great art and music it’s reflective of our times with timeless themes. I enjoyed your reaction video very much. Great stuff
Thanks, Kim!
Very insightful. Thanks for your insights. I hope you react to REN’s Chalk Outlines. Amazing.
Thanks for this. Cheers!
Ren's artistry, tends to bring up some emotions in us all❤
I've never seen an artist who has affected me so much. Thank you!
Thank you for the heartfelt, sincere reaction. This kicked me in the gut too.
Thanks, Jerry.
Wonderful insightful, intelligent reaction. Thank you again🎉
Thank you, Jurgen!
These songs came out a few years ago and not all at the same time. I remember waiting for the next one to drop. Your observation were the most spot on of the many reactors I have seen over the last year or so. It is a shame that this is a normal thing in our world.
Very sad.
You were made for this. I gotta say I've seen all 3 of your reaction s to Ren so far and am just astounded everytime. Thanks for doing these. I could see the pain in your face at times on this one and understand it was a tough pill to take. You did absolutely phenomenal. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I'm so glad you find the videos worthwhile. I appreciate it.
Thank you for your reaction your insight on this being your first time watching it is amazing, your insight and explanation of this trilogy is very good if not somewhat shocking .
I will subscribe to your channel and look forward to hearing more from you.
Thank you, Philip!
I’ve watched hundreds of ren reactions of most of his songs and this is hands down the best. Thank you. Please continue to do more!!
Thank you. I appreciate your feedback. All the best!
Another FANTASTIC reaction! You just don't miss! Your insights about trauma, musings about freedom of the will and fatalism, and your compassion resonate with me so much, man.
I'd love to make a request. Since you just happen to be reacting to all the songs that are super important to me, I'd love to get your take on Bo Burnham's "Kanye Rant."
A bit of backstory just in case you decide to watch it; Bo got his start in abrasive musical shock-comedy.
Awesome. I've written these down. Thank you for your comments and recommendations!
Wow! You are so perceptive, it is refreshing to listen to you. Thanks for your time in sharing with us.
Thank you, Bonnie!
It's amazing how strongly his work makes me feel. Thanks!
Am watching now and love your take at the end of Jenny's tale. Very very inciteful! 👌🕊👌
Edit. This is the best reaction I have seen to this tragedy.
Please listen to Power next, I promise it won't kick you in the gut 🙂
Okay. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you!
Loving the Ren reactions!
Money Game 1 is another live performance one shot video with a bit of a different message to the songs you've done of REN so far😊
Thanks. Money Game coming early next week!
It's so well done that it's easy to miss that it's a live one-take.
It really is amazing!
So nice of you to say. I'm glad to be on the ride with you!
It certainly opens up the discussion, though doesn't it. this is Ren's message to the world. Another insightful reaction, thank you.
It does exactly what Ren intended it to do. That said, it was a tough ride. I feel grateful to have watched it, though.
Welcome to the family
Thank you, Preston!
Thank you for another excellent and insightful reaction.
Thank you, Beth!
I feel the same about part four (and 1-3 for that matter). Good recommendations!
I feel richer for having watched Jenny and Screech, Kitty. I love good art. This did what Ren wanted it to do. Cheers!
Ren: troubadour of the streets; teller of souls: sharing compassion and making the listener think.
Yes, very true.
Thank you for the nice comments. Good themes to think about. Cheers!
Quality reaction mate, I think you had the response to this as a lot of people, you can appreciate the storytelling and the performance but it is genuinely unsettling, I’m only surmising but I think Ren wanted to shine a light on these subjects as you say are a lot more common than we like to believe
I agree with you. Thank you!
Spot on insightful analysis.
Thanks, Carol!
Absolutely nailed it and after only one pass, took me lots of re visits to figure it all out and that was with help.
Great work, well done.
Thank you!
I’m only as far as the end of Jennie’s tale and boy are you nailing it. Very astute
Thanks, Danny! I hope you liked the rest.
Again, excellent reaction!
Thank you, Lois!
Great reaction! The Ren journey is something special!!
It really is. I'm glad to be on it!
1:32 Maybe this will be a bit of a humorous video! 😂🤣😂🤣
😅😂
I love your intelligent, intiitive & nuanced analysis of Rens songs!
Thanks!
you are a man of great depth sir.
Kind of you to say!
Been liking your take on his videos, actually made me understand them a bit better, especially Hi Ren.
The Money Game pt.1 & 2, I suggest next.
Okay. I'm on it. Thanks!
That's right! Some great art is meant to galvanize and provoke. Thank you!
thank you for continuing to react and support my favourite artist ever ❤❤
Thank you for another wonderful reaction. If you're planning to continue reacting to Ren, I'd love to see you do Chalk Outlines (live) or Crutch. Both are on the heavier side, but much more personal to Ren.
Okay, Kristin. Thank you for the suggestion.
Ooh! I was hoping you would do this one! I'm excited to watch this :)
: )
Bravo sir, loved your reaction and insight into the issues highlighted in this amazing trilogy
Thank you!
Ren's latest song, Lost All Faith is deep and has an amazing pop hook. Consider it for your next reaction.
Okay. Thanks, Jeremy.
Your reaction and commentary is amazingly spot on, thanks for sharing!
Gracias, Jose!
Because i tried so hard to work my way through my trauma on my own, putting absolutely everything into ignoring mental symptoms of inner turmoil, my physical health has failed (FND)
But!
These are touching comments. I sincerely hope that good things will happen for you and that you will have a good life and good health. Warm regards.
Very intuitive reaction!
Thank you!
Yes... more great insight and a great reaction.
Glad you are getting to see all these different levels of Rens magnificent artistry.
More to come eh
whatever next?
We'll see. Thank you!
Very insightful reaction, you were one of the few I've seen who fully understood all the nuances of this song at a first listen. Generational trauma is a sad, pervasive thing that ruins lives from the onset, and it is, as Ren would put it "such a shame"
I’m not sure one can enjoy this. Endure is a perfect description.
Another thoughtful reaction. I look forward to watching more Ren with you.
Thank you. I'm so glad you found me and my channel. Cheers!
You're too good at this reaction game 😂😂😂 its surprising how many reactors miss the bombshell, the last two lines of these tales, delivers... but you nailed it... but the "oh shit" moment at the beginning of Screech's tale was brilliant, glad you kept it in😂😂😂
Thanks for continuing to watch my videos, Emmanuel. See you soon!
Thanks for the suggestions, Shirley!
I am a Sub.
I watched it again, and it was much easier the second time. Thanks!
You're insight was astounding. You can see how difficult this was for you to watch. What a thoughtful insight you brought. Thank you for being so eloquent.
Extremely well thought out response to each of the Tales 🙏♥️🙏
Ty for taking me along on the ride. Another excellent reaction. Thanks
Thank you!
I caught all that on my second viewing. I missed and misinterpreted a few things my first time. Cheers!
@@BustingtheBox no worries, I'm sorry for multi-posting, I guess it's my Idiom as I watch things. LOL
Wow, your beautiful insight into this haunting reality of human life was so great, Ren taking the stage and opening up this conversation is so enlightening, thank you thank you again for sharing, it is really hard to watch, I still cry now, such a shameeeeee, let’s not be uneducated about human behaviours, thank you 🙏🦉❤️🐊👍
I appreciate your comments. Thank you to you too!
Thank you for your reaction. 🙂
My pleasure, Mary!
Thanks for the comments, brother!
That was the best response to this. It covered everything and included whats happening now. It may be a stretch, but could this be a modern day little red riding hood. Overall i think it is an awaking message for many that do not know what is going on.
That's a clever comparison. Interesting. Thanks for your comments!
I had a very hard time with this as well but he has a special ability to make you feel. Good, bad or indifferent it is powerful.
You can say that again!
from an artistic perspective this performance reminds me of a Tarantino movie, think Pulp Fiction.... the inverted timeline, the strong themes, the violence, the language, the announced tragedy, the social commentary, the reveal at the end, and the artistic merit are just so reminiscent of it as is the pure artistry of the performance and the way he pays homage to the stylings of the past (in this case the bardic traditions that saw tales of virtue and morality sung to the illiterate masses for their entertainment... I guess there's a reason Ren calls this style Bardcore)
This could easily have been a movie starring Samuel L Jackson in one of the side-roles...
Excellent observations, man. Thank you for sharing.
Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery that it gets physically uncomfortable at times - especially in Violet’s Tale. Yet it’s impossible to look away. Ren pulls you in and demands attention. And he uses his power to shed light on issues that are far too real for far too many people 😢
Great reaction.
Thank you. Yes, I messed up on the phone call. Cheers!
Isn't it great to be able to discover a brilliant artist, Jason? I love it.
Thanks, Ariel. I'll take your suggestions.
I’m so sorry. I felt so bad when you said bother video was hard to watch. I knew we were at the point where the video breaks ppl’s faces. This is the first reaction I’ve teared up watching.
Thanks for the kind words. It was really good art and did what it was supposed to do. Cheers!
Another amazing review! Picking out so many things that others have missed.
It’s wild to me that you easily find so many things that almost everybody else seems to miss. Great job sir!
Thanks, Dale. I also missed quite a few things and made errors. On second viewing I saw a lot more. Thanks for your kind comments.
"It's a shame" was the quote from a Police representative talking about the murder the songs are centered around. IRL
Good to know. Thanks!
Great sentiments. Thank you!
This was indeed the most intelligent reaction I have ever seen for this piece of art. Thank you so much. I love listening to your analyses of our society.
I appreciate it, Cristy!
Your breakdowns are second to none, excellent.
I’ve heard it said in recovery, “our secrets keep us sick” and I‘m also familiar with the idea that “hurt-people hurt people.”
Through his art, I believe Ren also reminds us to: Hurt less. Love more.
Great comments. Thank you for sharing!
Good suggestion. Thanks!
