    I use it all the time- love it. I bought the holder for my phone from one of your vids. Works great! I have the app and map running in real time as I ride. When I get to an intersection I already know which way I’m going. The best tip I have- put your phone on airplane mode when riding and using it. It works better when not trying to search for crap signal that is barely there in the forest.
    If I ever get a straight line between 2 points, that just tells me that was an area where my phone lost gps signal.

    I have been using for two years it work pretty good even with out service. Tracking riders in your group is the best function. You can see if the group made that turn on the trail. If anyone breaks down you can back track to their location. The new update for tracking play back is awesome also you can view your tracks on your computer when you get home.

      Thanks for the input, Ted! Glad to hear it is working well for you. Honestly still not a big fan because of the many glitches we seemed to have with it, but I understand why people use it. Maybe it is the area we were riding as well!
      I'm currently on the hunt for the best trail navigation system out there...still trying to find the few best options to make a video on them.

    spent 10 years in the navy, away from snowmobiling. Hopped on a sled with the app myself on a trail system from Rhinelander to meet friends in eagle river. Made it there and exactly where my friends were waiting for me. The comparison is prob a garmin with vm mapping. At this point your already spending more than it costs to use Ride command. The app has come a long way since this video. +sub/like/bell

    It’s awesome we love it we used it everywhere we went riding it’s great for tracking you’re rides it’s great for finding your way back to camp it tells us how many hours minutes it took we can see where we rode yesterday so the following day we could take different trails but we used it in South Dakota in the Black Hills used in Colorado in the mountains used it in Moab Utah Flagstaff Arizona all in all we think it’s a great app and it helped us find trails near us when we pull off go camping that we don’t even know about don’t know what to tell you we ride just about every single day all year long everywhere and it’s absolute musing for us and we go to all sorts of different states

    We used it on a poker run and mapped out about 8 different bars in a 50 mile Loop.
    Yes I must say it was helpful but I would not put my life on it.
    After we program the eight different poker run stops and view the map it just gave us a straight line from bar to bar and did not recognize any Trail on the map.
    I would use it again on my next Poker Run

    I use the App also and I've get those offshoot lines and it sure doesn't take me 55 minutes to go 11 miles like it shows on your screen. Yes the battery drain is terrible and also the reception. It does say the trail will pick up after reception is restored but it went a different route. It works better snowmobiling because it smoother I think because the phone is moving around so much it can't get a good bearing. I will look at the link for that magnet mount I have a Polaris etx Sportsman and I could really use something for the tank.

      Midwest ATV you need to download the offline map for the ride command app!!! That’s what the straight line is from & if you pause the ride, forget to un pause later it will draw a straight line from where you paused to where you un paused the ride

    What can you tell me about the Garmin GPS for snowmobiles? I will look more at your channel to see if you reviewed one but for $600 I have to buy another mount and that's a lot of money to spend. I've seen people on a trail use them and it does show the trail really nice but on the command app you can't read the trail number unless you blow it up and that's still not the same Trail number as your map.

      @NavigateOffroad  5 років тому

      To be honest, I'm probably the wrong person to ask when it comes to snowmobiles. They are great, but I only ride from time to time (dont own a sled) and I have not used a Garmin GPS specifically made for the trails. I will have to look into it now though!

    I don’t know much about this app but from watching different people’s videos on ride command when clicking on rides on the bottom it pulls up every ride of people that have chosen to share their ride. When I went to the area to create a ride the blue lines are dashes, you create a ride you want then click save and yours will be the one highlighted.
    I have problems with the app in my RZR I can’t login so I am not able to record a trail or track ? As soon as I get a extra minute I will take it to the dealership to see if they can make it work.

    Funny experience moment....WVA. I had zero service. For shoots and giggles I opened the app anyway and started it. Nonetheless, last week (yeah, I forgot about doing all this) I opened the app only to find that even with zero cell service it actually mapped out my ride. I thought that was pretty impressive.

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 років тому +1

      Nice, thanks for the input man.! I think you can still record rides because it is only using the GPS for tracking, not the cell towers. Without cell towers though, it can't show you where other riders are, which is why that feature did not work really well for us.

  • @unclejerm7692
    @unclejerm7692 5 років тому

    Something you guys need to understand, "POLARIS" doesnt add the trails, or interest points, only approved users do. If the trail data is wrong why are you blaming Polaris? The only thing that is dependant on your phone connection is showing other riders in your group on the map. Maps can be downloaded into the app for offline viewing and still track your ride waypoints and photos. You need to give it more than one or two rides. Actually spend time learning to use it then come back with a review. Lets not forget they don't charge a DIME for any of us to use it, oh and they do so without any popups or ads. They also have an easy method to report any problems with the app built right into the app. Its a must for me every single time out on the trail.

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for your input. As for a couple of the comments, we never blamed "Polaris" for all the information in the app. It's called the Polaris Ride Command App. So their name will come up, but we never said Polaris sucks and so does their app. Also we did use this on more than one ride (In more than one state!), we just only filmed it during one ride.
      Now if it works for you, great! I am glad you found something that works for your needs. Personally, I don't think its very good. You can say that the data is only as good as the users putting it in, but I don't really think that changes the point. Polaris is the one advertising it as an app for trail data, but (at least everywhere we tried in multiple states), the data was bad. So I don't think it matters where the data is coming from, simply that its not accurate. Even with the data coming from "approved users" it is not very well vetted.
      As for not charging a dime, that's great. Again, that doesn't make the app good. There was no argument being made that people were stuck paying for an app that provides bad data. Like I mentioned, if it works good for you, great. But simply because something is free or has user input data doesn't make it good. None of these arguments can be used to justify it being a great app against what was stated.

Just open your google map app, navigate to the area you are going to be ridding, zoom in or out as needed, hit the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) select offline maps, custom map, move the selection square to the map area you want to locally save, then select download. That’s all there is to it. No need for data or cell signal. Internal phone gps is all that is needed. I used this in the middle of nowhere works perfect. I have it on my 2020 rzr.... Totally disappointed. I ride the black hills of south dakota. No trail maps on the factory mounted gps....only uploaded tracks from other riders. Look....if you want a decent gps with trails in the area you're riding in go use Avenza Maps. Way more detailed maps with trailhead numbers.... Not just someone elses ride. This cost me an additional $1500 (roughly) and I will be going back to my garmin so I can see the trails I come across and know where they lead to.... Not just a preplanned ride. I want to make decisions on where I ride while in my machine...and not just on my computer the night before. I would not recommend ride command to anyone looking for gps capabilities on the trails.

      @@Toddly1 It will show your location and track you as long as the map is referenced. All of their maps from their mapstore are referenced so that works. If you're loading your own it would have to be a geospatial PDF. There is a GPS tracking option though.

      bahahaha! My bad. I had just responded to a message about a UTV before this, and I did not realize it was for the Ride Command video! I must be losing my mind, sorry about that.
      I agree, it does drain the cell phone much quicker. That's a great point, I should have brought that up in the video.

    as for the app, the maps for snowmobiling are very incomplete and in some areas very inaccurate. I hope this is not what you get in the gauge on Polaris snowmobiles because it would be a waste of time for me. My set up with Garmin and GPS trailmasters is much better and works like Waze, user input. I'm not sure where Polaris gets their map info but I think it worthless. Oh, by the way snowmobiling is way better than any SxS or ATV by far :)

    the app is not inclusive of your phones GPS. watch some gps videos to learn how tracking works.

    It's horribly inaccurate, it's shows trails that don't even exist, and they refuse to change it, it shows a trail going through my property, they're going to get someone a trespassing ticket or worse!

      Hey JoAnn, I can completely understand why that would turn someone off from Ride Command. I have found an app that works pretty well, that I use now. It is called Gaia. I am planning to do a video on it soon. It's not specifically made for offroading, however a lot of trails are now being made with Geo PDFs that allow you to download the trail right into the app.
