One of the few of the younger generation of classical guitarists that I like. Most of today's younger players sacrifice musicality and feeling for speed and technical prowess. Celil plays with both feeling and skill, he doesnt rush though the pieces trying to impress with technical ability, he appreciates the beauty of the pieces. He will one day be ranked with the likes of Bream, Williams, Russell etc I'm my humble opinion. I don't think you can say that about most players today.

Personalmente las interpretaciones de Celil son artísticamente merecedoras del más elogioso de los premios. Bach es sublime y profundo. Además, aunque no lo más relevante, es técnicamente consumado para lograr la expresión que conmueve. ¡Bravo Celil!,

The fact that this is a competition torments me. Why can't it just be a showcase? Is there really such a thing as "best" guitarist? At this level of performance I imagine the guitarists are looking at each other thinking "how could I possibly come close to that?". When you've reached a level where your proficiency defines you, hearing others play and their interpretations must come down to subjectivity.

Because the prize they win is about $30,000, they get a NAXOS CD recording and approximately 50 concerts on a US tour. They compete to win that. Really much of comes down to who doesn't crack under the pressure and make one small error as that can be the difference between winning or losing

@@MrSuperpatoo I play classics guitar and my son is a Symphony Orchestra player ( clarinet). This competition are not good for our instrument. It separate classic guitar from the music world. The judge from this competition should be musicians from other instruments, with music scores with them. Also requires an ensemble performance with other instruments.
Put a classics guitar player in rock, jazz or any other music group and see what happens. Can we play first sight maybe not... Can we play by ear maybe not.... Can we improvise maybe not. You get the point.

There's a few things at play here. They did not want an obstructed view of the performance. Hence the mic is very low to the ground. The mic looks like it might be a Telefunken M60 or similar pencil condenser mic. These are very nice microphones. They want to portray a natural uncompressed sound. I imagine it sounded beautiful in the auditorium. What the board captures will not be nearly as robust as what is projected from the speakers and into that resonant hall. Honestly, it sounds beautiful to me. This isn't a studio recording. Far more natural sounding. They could have mic'd the room but that would introduce a lot more audience noise than is already present.

What I observe are marginal differences between players where I see little new. Take Cataluna from Albeniz for example. Manuel Barruecco has set the standard and since then many have started using it. But all those results do not add a new artistic element to what M.B. did in the eighties. No matter how well some people play, the differences between these covers are marginal, predictable and I boring to my feeling. This discussion goes further than just this competition. It It is about uniformity, artistry, personal and musical development. I think that because everyone wants to look alike (unlike players like Bream, Yepes, Segovia and Williams who are / were authentic in their own way and follow their own path) the artistic element of individuality and deepening is hardly ever entered. wanting to understand the underlying reason, superficial reactions come in such as: you can turn off the button or I hear no Asturias, well ... It is no wonder that guitarists can barely fill half a Wigmore Hall.

To me these competititions are to academical, dull and predictable. The players all have a fantastic technique and play with devotion. Yet at the same time I don't feel that competitions and art go together in an organic way. And why don't players improvise and compose also, because that is the classical tradition? I'dd rather hear an own composition which is simple, then Asturias for the 100 st time with a few minor mistakes. What is more exciting then exploring your inner landscape and putting that journey on the map?

If I personally wanted to listen to something else, I do not, what I would do is to hit the x, and this performance that offends you so would disapear from your ears, open a new window to you tube and select what I did want to hear from you tubes limited avalable selections. Secdigin parcalar guzel degil. Af edersin. Sahnede dinleyenlerin gore bir kac parca melodic seyiler calmalisin. Classic demek istiyorum. Los Angeles.
