I’ve been watching your channel for about a year now and have utmost respect for your talent with these bikes and I greatly appreciate your desire to keep these great machines relevant and on the road. I picked up a 82 Interstate version last year and did the stator, reg/ rectifier, water pump seal, carbs… all the usual stuff and it runs/rides fantastic. Sold my 2002 GL1800 and now the Silverwing is my only bike. Loved the Goldwing but at 64 it was getting a bit heavy for me to comfortably handle. I find that I have as much if not more fun with the GL500 and at half the weight is no problem to handle. Thanks for all your videos I think it’s great that you are introducing today’s youth to a truly unique and wonderful machine. Yesterday’s crotch rocket. Lol

Thank you for the nice comment. I enjoy doing these bikes and have always loved them. This all started out with my 1982 GL500 I bought new. Before that it was air cooled chain drive CB’s. I had my original one for 16 years and 86,000 miles. I think these are some of the best engineered motorcycle ever built. They run forever with proper maintenance. I’m 67 now and plan on doing this until I just can’t anymore. My life is riding and hanging out in my shop doing this.

It looks and sounds even better in person. Another great rebuild by Murphy Motors.

Another great job!! Looks and sounds great. Reminds me that my poor old '82 Interstate has been awaiting restoration for about 3 years now... too much other stuff (including a 45-yr-old wooden sailboat that I just bought for some reason)... I like my NC700 but before I sell the bikes, the house, and everything else and move aboard the boat, I really need to spruce up my GL500 and go on one last tour. I've done some epic tours on my GL500, while also using it as a daily commuter, year-round, in all weather.
Anyone interested in this bike, but unfamiliar, needs to understand that they are an absolute joy to ride and very dependable if you give them a little basic attention. Or neglect and abuse it; it will hang in there until the bitter end. Simple and pretty much idiot-proof. And Mr. Murphy knows them better than probably anybody; the go-to "Twisted Twin" guy in the USA as far as I'm concerned.

Hey Kevin great bike! That's my exact bike. You've done some restorations that were close but wow. I have the same color 82' in my garage. Standard is such a great ride. Mine has been in the family since 1986. 18K miles. Great video.

Thank you. There’s something about the 500 Standard. I switched from air cooled Hondas back in 83 when I bought my brand new GL500 standard. The difference in these bikes and the air cooled bikes was amazing.
