The ACC's Public Perception Has Never Been LOWER | Can The League Bounce Back?
Вставка

- The ACC’s public perception has never been lower than it is right now. Clemson and FSU are suing the conference in hopes of breaking the Grant of Rights. A UNC trustee spoke openly about advocating for the Tar Heels to find a home in the Power Two. Florida State was kept out of the College Football Playoff last season despite going 13-0 with a conference championship. Is it too late for the ACC to bounce back from a PR standpoint?
Hosts Alex Donno and Kenton Gibbs break down what commissioner Jim Phillips said about the ACC’s image during the league’s spring meetings this week. Phillips talked about coaches asking for better promotion of their football teams. Donno and Gibbs believe things could be done better behind the scenes, but the biggest way to change perception would be to win big on the field this season.

Dono & Gibbs …. Is there a reason the ACC didn’t raid the Big XII & PAC 12 going after their top programs instead of adding Standard, Cal & SMU … & negotiate a better deal …. I hear all the time of how the Big XII is going to pickup the ACC top leftovers & restructure a TV contact but why can’t the ACC do the same…. I get it that’s it’s unsalvageable at this point & time but why didn’t the ACC be proactive in collecting top teams from the PAC & Big XII & put themselves in a better position
That entire UNC thing is like the biggest soap opera ever. It's a huge rock fight at UNC.
Ya'll have been on fire as of late, another good show. You 2 have good chemistry.
FSU had 10 players drafted… None of them played in the Orange Bowl..
13 are cashing nfl checks
I do agree that a merger between the B12 & ACC makes sense if several ACC schools leave.
Maybe as long as Wake and BC get dropped like WSU and OSU were.
@@jeffwatson68nah, keep Wake Forest, BC, and Syracuse and drop SMU, Stanford and Cal.
ACC the redheaded step child of Disney. Eventually everything will be on Venu Sports App.
Double wow….Georgia beat FSU 4th stringers. How does Georgia continue get beat by a lowly 2-lost Bama. Dogs are pathetic !!!
It was all planned to give Nick Saban his Farewell tour and leave as the greatest coach of the modern era! They didn't plan on him having a Rb at Qb that year though! 🤣😂🤣
Kenton is funny, you can tell he has figured out that NCST is not going to get a Big2 invite
You mean he’s salty lol
Listen we are Miami fans not ACC fans so that’s there problem
ACC problems an become Miami problems real quick
Good episode fellas
When FSU and CU leave the ACC, payouts will be 50-70MM behind the big 2 within the next 2 years. The existing PR problem is the least of their concerns.
And it is not PR. It is reality.
The ACC basketball snobs did this to themselves! The referee's always were biased against their own Fsu/Clemson breadwinner football teams! The ACC commisioner should be fired immediately and get someone in to save the ship because ESECPN has bitch slapped him silly! The conference is a dead man walking! The only piece of respect they have will be if they let Fsu/Clemson go and add Memphis, USF, FAU/FIU! 😂
Way to go guys. If you are promoting the ACC, then you should at least mention some of the other teams. I get that this is a Miami based production, but it would be a point to mention what other teams bring to the brand. Louisville, FSU and NC were ranked thoughout the season.
Good video. I agree
Good morning my friends! 👋🌞
If Acc want to keep existing they would give Clemson and FSU 180 mil price tag to leave and bring in Memphis, South Fla and Uconn and keep rolling
If only 2 schools leave there is no need to bring in anyone else. No need for any mid level conference to have more than 12 members.
The Only Teams left that may have the Budgets to be in a power conference are Uconn, USF, San Diego State. Memphis depends on how much FedEx will pay to get them in. FedEx CEO could use his power like George W. Bush did for SMU.
With Uconn it may depend if Duke and Carolina want to compete with yet another in conference blue blood.
That makes too much sense, basketball snobs can't think on that level!
IF ACC drops below 15 teams by July 1st, it triggers a contraction clause that will implode the ACC....It only takes one team to leave before SMU joins, not two.
@@MichaelSmith-xb5cp You really think it is a drop under 15 in the off season would make any difference? I don't. The only way that happens is if ESPN is just dying to get out and would deal with an ACC suit.
the ACC can fix everything by being the first revenue sharing conference with players or someone creating an NIL collective for the conference and secures some big sponsors. No one is thinking outside of the box. They dont need more revenue than other conferences, they just need top talent to stay relevant. That is another way to get there.
You are right. It is good to start seeing some high IQ people comment. Sports fans, smh. People don't get it. they only see things from the ESPN/Fox CFP format parameters.
College football is a huge niche. But its still a niche.
Everything now is about drawing the casual fan. The ACC can reframe things as a media product and not be bound by those old rules by thinking outside the box.
If the ACC is first to be the most generous with Players that changes everything.
That isn't going to fix things with the B10 and SEC teams per year making 40 to 60 million more than ACC teams! I'm a Miami and I live here in Florida. Your notion, the ACC doesn't need more revenue than other conferences is laughable.
@@arronfrazier7873 your response doesn't even make sense. The money the schools make has nothing to do with how much the players get through NIL
@@falcn828 This is what I mean. These guys don't Understand Data, Business or margins...
@@falcn828 It does make sense! I live here in Florida as a Miami fan! They are going to salaries or whatever pay scale thing! The conference with the biggest purse is going to have the biggest advantage for the players, paying coaches, building and other resources. Arkansas in FB before A&M got to the SEC and now Texas can be said to have the deepest pockets potential. The Texas schools have the oil money! Arkansas has alums that are Waltons of Walmart/Samclub and family members of Tyson Chicken. Their NIL should be right there with Texas and A&M. Yet, Arkansas really has won big since joining the SEC! CFB is going to salaries and the B10 and SEC will have the advantage over the other conferences!
Winning doesnt matter
ACC deservedly earned that disrespect
Welcome to the world of former-Pac cfb fans - we feel ur pain, @ACC fans.
Whatever chance you guys have to bash Florida State you take. The ACC has always been looked down upon but every other freaking conference it’s not just a recent thing stop gaslighting the situation to make Florida state look bad. This is ridiculous.
You can't go to one ACC media outlet that that they are complaining about the conference instead of focusing on the players or teams in the ACC. Each youtube platform spends about 20 minutes degrading other teams in the conference and another 30 minutes whinning.
The ACC needs to make a deal with Netflix because all the drama
The four corner schools from the PAC choose the B12 vs the ACC. The B12 schools would not leave for a shaky ACC nor would they pay the ~$55M exit fees to join the ACC for similar money now and much lower money once FSU and Clemson leave.
Clemson gonna get waxed? Didnt bama prove time and time again that a good defense can beat Georgia? Do you think Clemson will not have a good defense?
I double check your comment about the nfl draft the real truth is
Sec then pac 12 big 10 then acc big 10 and acc was almost a tie.
Big time schools want big time money
It’s all about money…. ESecPN has ruined competitive balance by pumping up the SEC…. They erected never going to have a playoff w/o an SEC team…. That is why FSU got left out. That is the hill I die on…
That's true but with the SEC winning more playoff games than the ACC this decade, the SEC makes more money. Ask yourself this: would it have happened to Ohio State, a non-SEC team? Of course, not. Why? Because OSU wins more than FSU. I think that the ACC is stuck in the past decade.
No because Ohio State is a bigger media product than FSU. Notre Dame wouldn't have a problem because of the same + Condoleezza Rice can lobby for them.
Still. Even If it was Mississippi state or Wisconsin they still aren't getting in over Texas or Nick Saban's Alabama before final retirement.
Good show today Kenton
“The fish always rots At the head.” ( Don Vito Corleone). As long as a poor leader like Jim Phillips is in charge things will not get better. Don’t believe me? Look at Brett Yormark compared to George Kliavkoff.
How many players sat out for Georgia
I still can’t believe it was David McKenzie that filed against UNC for yesterday’s meeting. That guy must have a deep and unhealthy obsession with realignment. Commenting in UA-cam like Doug Rohan is one thing to promote yourself, jumping into the legal battle personally is too far.
ACC fans creates the public negative perceptions of their conference. Even after the Bowl wins versus SEC teams all the ACC media outlets focused on FSU being snubbed.
I really think you need to take a look at all the SEC youtube platforms and take a few ideas from them. Use the available media sources to provide content to your programs.
This is primarily ESPN's fault.
The SEC's ESPN Media Industrial complex is even louder than the B1G 10. There is no competing with that directly.
The solution for the ACC is to have a Primary media partner who only has eyes for the ACC. The ACC does have more inventory to sell especially after the CW network deal is up. Will Nexstar raise enough money to Keep some ACC games at full price?
The ACCN is now paid up. TNT warner is losing the NBA soon. The tech companies need tiered live sports content.
The only reason the big-12 is close is they have scraped together an ESPN deal pac 12 refused and some with FOX.
Do not Merge with the big-12 who are enemies to the ACC. "The Alliance " part 2.
Miami and FSU will be the next package deal to the b1g, guaranteed.
There won't be an ACC in a few years. Just two major college "Super" conferences soon. All of these teams will be sucked into the SEC or Big-10. That's just the way of the future guys
I've been saying for the past few years that the ACC doesn't have a product problem, the ACC has a perception problem or as you coined it, a PR Problem. Case in point, the misperception of the Big XII being a stronger conference (according to many of the pundits). Once TX and OK leave who are the national brands that remain? I'll give you Okla. St, but who else? Utah? mmmehhh....Colorado? debatable...but who else. Every conference only has 3-5 good teams, a few in the middle and some cellar dwellers. This is true for the SEC, the B1G, the Big XII, and the ACC. Furthermore, if you check the top 25 after week 3 of most years, the ACC typically has 3-5 teams in the top 25. On any given year, the SEC may have one more ranked team than the ACC. We, ACC fans, have to stop buying into the narrative ourselves and aid in changing this misperception. Pitt vs. Syracuse is a way better game to watch than Vandy v. MS. State, or Iowa St. v. Northwestern. Lastly, Seven of the current starting QBs in the NFL are from the ACC. My point here is a challenge to the misperception that there's a huge talent difference in between the SEC/B1G and the ACC. There really isn't. Every team in the SEC isn't AL and GA. The ACCs top 5 can match up against teh SECs Top 5 and it'll be a game every Saturday. The B1G really only has three teams, the rest are mediocre...So again, why is the ACC deemed so bad? GO HOKIES!
Exactly This.
10 players from FSU drafted
Mercenary thats why 😮
@@Navyking12 whatever works😂
it has nothing to do with the public perception, it's much more about the ACC sucking... tho the small 10 does suck much more, so yeah it's not fair. My advice: join the SEC
The ACC has Notre Dame’s ACC away games & should use that scheduling against the top ACC teams… Pitch that to FOX …. It’s gotta be worth a shiny penny…. Just 3 of Notre Dame’s ACC away games are worth a lot more than FSU’s entire season
Lol not true at all
If you want to know why people think the ACC is trash, then ask what the last big game any ACC team not FSU or Clemson has won in a real OOC game? It has been many many years. The bottom of the SEC beat the team that appeared in the the ACC championship game. When Iis the last time the bottom of the ACC beat a UGA or similar P2 team?
The perception is based on reality
The ACC was 7-5 vs the SEC last season
The talking heads on the SEC Network would have been pumping LSU as a top 10 team if FSU hadn't destroyed the Bayou Bengals
No SEC team manhandled Texas A&M like Miami did....down by double digits twice and came back to win by 15....probably the reason that the exit door was opened for Jimbo
In the college football era the ACC is 43-53 vs the SEC...as an ACC fan I wish our record was better ....however most SEC loyalist would have you to believe that the SEC steamrolls the ACC in 90% of their contest. Also in the College Football Playoff era the ACC has defeated every SEC Team at least once.
I think FSU and Clemson cover the majority of those wins.
@@richardsnyder842 The only quality win of those seven was FSU. You can go back many years and not find a quality win versus the P2 from the entire rest of the ACC.
That's why people don't think they're good. They're not
@@nole74and geogia teck gave georgia all they could handle
@@stephenhill1131 did they lose. Winning matters. The ACC 'good' team lose the bottom of the P2 and nobody in the ACC beats the good P2 teams except Clemson and FSU.
The perception is there because it's reality.
You mean the a c c hire to crappy commissioner again
FSU did not deserve to be in the playoffs no matter what that sucked 63 points in bowl game
FSU was excluded from the playoffs because Alabama beat Georgia. There was no credible way to fit Alabama into the playoffs without FSU being removed. Unless Alabama was included there would have been no SEC representative. And we all know that was intolerable because ... reasons. Because SEC pride and SEC money and TV ratings.
If Georgia had won, FSU would have been included. Everyone knows this. Which puts paid to all these transparently false excuses.
Roger is a clown ignore him
Sounds like fsu needs to learn how recruit better so there team will be better
When you have two homers of programs That's always in the bottom half of the ACC. That runs ACC podcast.. that tells you the perception of the worst league in the power 4. People are now old enough to drink since Miami has been any good.
Memphis is going to beat FSU on 9/14 in Tallahassee
SMU's gonna beat 'em in Dallas as well.
@@purpleivory2 yeah they're probably gonna beat them too
The acc's demise is a long time in coming. It has clearly been basketball and North Carolina centric to exclusion of all other schools. the other two major conferences have very low or no exit fees yet the ACC is trying to force FSU in Clemson into extraordinary penalties just to leave the conference why is that and please don't respond they signed the contract because that is a meritless comments from people that know nothing about contracts
They. Signed. The. Contract. Twice. 😊
@@rx2878 aha sure keep telling yourself that because I'm sure you know that there's an entire practice dedicated to contract disputes and contract litigation
@@gustavovz8431 2X. They signed the contract only complain after receiving at least 10 years of revenue. Basic Intellectual property law tells me.... 😃
Lol. Not to mention all the revenue FSU and Clemson brought into this pathetic conference. Maybe you don't realize this but if you are following braindead McKenzie you won't but this is a contract dispute.... intellectual property?😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@rx2878 and as I hope you are aware, there are now seismic changes to CFB. No way any national brands will remain in a second or third tier conference only to feed the bottom dwellers and to fade into obscurity and for what?? To feed the ACC. GMAB
You earn respect on the field, not in court. If the ACC were winning natties ths wouldn't even be a cnversation.
I guess the championships Clemson and FSU won don’t exist?
@@Nohandleentered Of course they do. But what have they done lately?
This is true. The ACC money woes directly orginate from no ACC team being in the playoffs this decade.
@@CarlaJenkinsTV yet one team should've been in over the two 1 loss teams this past season
They are! Second most behind the sec last 20 years! 🤡😂🤦🏼♂️🤡
It's much deserved. ACC is weakest of p-4 and they should actually be part of the g-5 once Clemson and fl state leave
They are literally the second best conference by every metric the last 20 years! What are you on??
@@SurferRC Remember the Big East winning all those natties in basketball and football? Exactly nobody cares. Perception is all that matters. And ACC
Is the new Big East. What goes around comes around
1:40 I think that the label is sticking because no ACC team has been to the playoffs this decade. The money and national media are drying up due to this. Look at the PAC-12 demise. Before 2023, 2016 was the last time that a PAC-12 team made the playoffs only to lose to Alabama in a 27-6 blowout. Also FSU and Clemson are consistently winning. This decade FSU went 3-6 in 2020 and 5-7 in 2021. Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State are perenially posting 10+ win seasons and playoff wins.
All due to bias and access of the payoff committee
The ACC has 7 of the bottom 10 P4 football brands. Of course ACC’s perception isn’t good.
Where does this come from?
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.
You cant make up false data like this. B10 has more worse teams… acc has the most top 60 teams with the sec!
Great show guys. Dono, you’re not that guy; lose the hat.
Did you really just say that we should be screaming from the rooftops that we had the 3rd most (out of 4) players drafted - thinking thats gonna help prop up the conference.... 🫤
And they basically were all from teams who are sueing to get out because....the conference is not good
NO. He was correct the Current B1G, Pac-12* (until Aug 2), and ACC were practically even for NFL draftees. Big-12 had few.
@@rx2878 again... we're supposed to brag about being 3rd out of 4. Lop. Stop it
Acc has the second most draft picks the last 25 years…
@@SurferRC yup. You could also say that FSU and Clemson have a bunch and the rest of the league not very many
