I did so many hit and miss trips like this. The banter is what makes it interesting. I would be fuming. Both of you are just nice people that make the best of everything.
Building my first bus- so no experience with sealant but I’m digging goop marine caulk. Paintable and uv resistant. Great video highlighting the addictive nature of bus building! But there are a lot of worse things to be into. For example gambling. You gotta know when to hold em know when to fold em. Glad it’s brought the 2 of you together.
Sikaflex 291 is excellent for things you are not ever going to remove. Be aware there are different products for different applications. This product will form permanent bonds. It is generally stronger then anything you are connecting it to. It has an extremely high bonding strength and will rip apart/bend the is below it like paint, ,metal, pvc, acrylic, or fiberglass before separating. Don't use it on your clearance lights if you want to change the housing. Don't use it to embed something that you do not want to be permanently structurally attached. Amazing stuff 'with crazy grip' as I've heard said and seen.
Holy cow 😅. After all that, I put my foot down and engage in a reset. Seven hours of sleep, a shower, and a proper meal. BOOM! I can do anything after a proper reset. It is the only thing to stop a tailspin of mistakes like running out of gas 😅
Fun Video!! I look forward to seeing what else you two have in the works. With regards to sealant; I've been running a marine repair business for coming up on 12 years now, and one of my most used sealants is 3M 4000 UV. I've used it on all kinds of boat hardware, above and below the waterline. The key with all sealant is to bed the entire surface area of the part, paying special attention to the fasteners. In my opinion, a bead of caulk around the outside edge is worthless. Regardless, the other key to making a lasting seal is cleaning. I prep both surfaces to be sealed like I would do paint prep. Wipe everything down with the strongest solvent that you can without damaging the substrates. Then lightly abrade the surfaces and wipe them down again. Make sure they are completely, and I do mean COMPLETELY, free of any contaminants. And then hit it with solvent one more time just to be sure 😉. Ensure the solvent is completely evaporated before applying sealant. I have used this method on underwater Thru-Hull fittings, hatches, portlight trim rings, deck cleats, etc. I've seen some of these jobs again 10 years later and still zero leaks, and I expect they'll go for many more years. It's a lot of extra work, but it's worth it if you want leak-free connections. Keep the videos coming! Love you guys😘
I concur with most of this. 3M 4000 UV is excellent and I see why it is popular in marine use. It can still be removed if needed and is good for a great deal of applications. Prep, I avoid solvents as I mostly did work on various finishes and not marine work. Dirty/old surfaces were cleaned first. Clean surfaces are, sometimes blue tapped, then prepped/cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, and finally caulked. This isn't always the case, but is the most common. Generally a different Polyurathane caulk from 3M, Sika, GE, etc is used or structural silicone for glazing.
My first bus related purchase yesterday was that same tiny little welder lol. Can't use stick and GMAW is too expensive to justify purchasing a whole unit to raise one roof and weld a few thin odds and ends.
8:19. what a trooper..i packed up the mrs for a run to Boise to look at a dirt bike we made it home the next day driving both ways with the bike;;;nice job chuck...
I use polyurethane roof and flashing sealant. It was originally designed for sealing the windows on high rise buildings. Which obviously can't all be pulled out and resealed every couple years. I've used it on the roof of our tiny home on wheels. Over 5 years ago. And the sealant is still as soft as it was a year after I used it. And believe me. Our Arizona sun destroys everything, in a fairly short period of time. Except this stuff. At "Home Depot" they call it "Polyurethane Roof and Flashing Sealant". Great stuff!!! I've even repaired leather items. Using it as a glue. And in most cases. It's still going strong years later. That's not what it's designed for though. It adheres to everything I've used it on, without fail. Try it and let me know what you think. By the way, it comes in standard caulking gun tubes. Good Luck Bo Johnson ~Tucson, AZ
@@ChristineJohnston-v5w that stuff sounds solid! I’ll definitely give it a shot, thank you! ..funny when it seems so obvious to just look at projects where the product HAS to be good… i.e. high rise building windows.. hahah love that. Same reason why i often default to marine products :)
I have been building mine for year and half just remember take it one day at a time rush work is junk work have fun!!! I use to do commercial security systems 16hr days on ladders in attics id rather build Rigs on my time and you guys are building people future dreams and memories.
This vehicle has an interference engine and when they upgraded the timing chain or belt they did it wrong and it bent some valves. You have a 50/50 chance when dealing with an interference engine of getting it right if you don't know what you're doing you have to make damn sure you have everything done the right way otherwise you risk screwing it up. Top dead center on the correct compression stroke is the difference between doing it right and screwing up an engine like this
Use marine grade polyurethane sealer. UV resistant, for use in salt water above or below water line, rated as a 50 year duration. 30% flexible yet very strong, and bonds to most any type of material.
he should of called ya and said the motor was toast..thats a rod knock sound to me along with rings and valve job. ..so ya wasted trip..with no coffee..lol
Polyurethane that is used for windshields it lasts a long time I found it seals windows at seals a lot of things little spendy but wow look how long a windshield stays in a car from Factory and does not leak. We're looking into our bus right now been looking at some we're close to you guys well sort of we're in southern Oregon still in the Pacific Northwest we got a lead on a couple we just haven't figured out what one we want what is the 38 but and the other one is a 40 it's good to see Charlie was always following his videos now I follow yours because of his suggestion on his videos you choose you awesome videos keep up the awesome work
Really??? But being it's California were talking about. I'm sure that they liberal jackass has come up with a completely stupid reason. So what's the excuse they're using???
I WANT TO BUY ONE OF YOUR BUSES! Preferably one that is roomy enough for 3 adults, 1 large dog and 2 cats to live in comfortably. At the moment I am homeless so anything that will hold all of my family would be great. How can I reach either you Brianna or you Chuck?
Interested in one of the sweet Unicorns any of the three available ? And how much? And I'm interested in a solar upgrade on the Sunrader and some modifications ? Chuck knows this rig like the back of his hand. I watched tonight’s live with Chuck and your new post as well, bees bees bees 👍 I would like to talk about purchasing the 7 window U factor bus 🚌 How do you want to go forward on this. I will text Chuck as well 💯👍❤️
Those three and a fourth will be available soon! We are finishing the mechanic work and gutting of the first one for sale.. looking like itll be the collins. Ill tell him to reach out to you, assuming you are the one with his very missed sunrader..
Thanks for your response, I will stay in the loop and when I'm ready let you know. I think I have never missed not even one of Chuck's videos, good content, very talented. The Sunrader another Sweet Unicorn 👍✌️♥️

So many… always heart breaking.. thank you! Filming was fun, also gave a purpose beyond coming home with the van… so it helped ease the gut punch!
Its great to see that you two are working together!!!
The two of you should start an RV business, you 'all know it so well. Use the platform to find out what people want and you got the skills.

2:02 dicor non sag lap sealant works great for sealing. Chuck introduced me to they're line of products. I love it💯✌️
PNW marine industry lives on Sikaflex 291 for absolutely everything and it's been amazing on our skoolie as well. May be worth looking into.

the engine brake on this unit may be true but thats not the case anymore, the valve actually open when you put your foot on the throttle.
Didn’t the seller tell you the engine was funky before you drove there?

I really like the butyl caulk for sealing. It’s a roofing and gutter sealant. Flexible and sticks great. Like butyl tape.

The running out of gas thing is a problem on VW Westy's. Lol

How's that Chuck for stepping up ~!
Just file it in the big brown file that says S#$! Happens and go on. Lol
File it, and get back on the marketplace scroll lol
man, Chuck is TOOO down!
And possible head gasket leak..cheers
Broken valve spring or bent push rod(if it has push rods). That's my guess. I don't think a burnt valve is going to make that noise.
I’m interested in one of the buses you have for sale
