I wish this video existed 15 years ago and I had seen it when I was 15 and was about to go to college. I didnt have the chance to study to be a pilot so I ended studying Ecomics, then worked for some important banks here in my country, but always felt something was missing in my life. Now I am 30 years and thanks to my career on Economics I will be able to afford my pilot training by the end of this year. Hopefully in a couple of years I will be flying a similar aircraft as you :) Here in South America there is a HUGE demand for pilots, in my country they only requiere 250 hours to hire you in the airlines. I feel really anxious and I cant wait to start! Is never too late if you have the passion! Thanks for all your videos, you are an inspiration for all of us.
+Mentour Pilot Yes of course, I downloaded it the first day! So far its been a really awesomw app. I haven´t seen all the videos yet, but will give you some feedback when I get some time.
Hey Petter. I watched the wind-shear escape manoeuvre, WOW that was a difficult task specially when trying to control the plane at the beginning. Nice work! and holly also made a good job too! I have just made a review on the app store (from my wife account), I guess it takes some time to appear while app support approves it. I also put the link your page there, and also shared it in a couple of aviation pages from my country. Keep up the good work!
I've seen quite a few video of yours MenTour... But this one brought me to tears... Thank you for sharing a big part of what you are and inspiring me to reach where I want to be... Thank you for pulling us from deep waters....
Well, my parents actually managed to f*ck up my Aviation dreams - until I started with flight simulation again. Flight simulation, and my uncle (who is an Air Force pilot) are pretty much the reasons for why I have the Aviation Bug. I sometimes feel like my uncle is the only person in the world that supports me on my dreams.
When i was in 7th grade i found a book at a used book store about aviation. The bug hit me very soon after. I eventually became the plane guy throughout middle and high school, fortunately i had classmates and teachers that encoraged my passion to the point that i built a working ramjet engine my senior year. Now i'm 18 and enrolled at embry riddle aeronautical university. I'm proud to be an erau eagle and your channel has been a massive insperation to me. I love your videos and i love aviation. Keep doing what you are doing.
Your story reminds me of my first flight. It was my 14th birthday and I went up in PA28 on a cold winter morning in Northern England. As soon as the aircraft left the runway I was amazed at the view and the controls of the aircraft. I'm now 17 and just got myself a job and every penny of that is going into flying lessons and a maths tutor to ready myself for my entry to ATPL training next year. Great video, it's always nice seeing people with a passion for flying :)
So true. Exactly what everyone especially parents need to know. If that’s the child’s dream, it won’t change so easily. Thank you so much for this video
Fantastic advice. I really appreciate my mum and dad for supporting me in my decision to become a pilot. My mum wanted me to become a doctor, I know she is still a bit sad I did not go for it but still I have her complete backing. I know these days it is a very tough career, specially in the earlier phase, but I always tell myself, to achieve something big you will have to put a lot of effort and I am ready put that effort.
Spot on! What you said was 100% true because this is what I have experienced, you know like you said that staying motivated about your dream does keep you out of trouble in every way and it only makes you work harder
I flew a cessna for the first time in my life, when i came back my instructor asked me how i felt, I just cried of happiness, I was so! Happy it was something beyond my dreams it waa like I had touched heaven, I wish I can go back but financially is hard, trying to keep up with my family, & i love watching your amazing videos. Mentour you are the best, thank you for your inspiring words. God bless you
I've always had a dream of being an airline pilot ever since I was on a plane for the first time, but now the dream has become topical because it's soon a time to make some crucial choices about my life. Your videos are really motivating me, and I'll try to change my lazy studying habits. I know that if I don't do it, it might bother me for the rest of my life! Thanks a lot for you to taking time to make these awesome videos!
I always wanted to be an archaeologist as a kid. When I started my archaeology degree I realised how much of a state the profession is in the UK. It's one of the poorest paying jobs and everyone says you should only do it if you love it more than anything else. I've always been fascinated by aviation and all things that fly, but recently I've been bitten severely by "the bug" and thought about being a commercial pilot for a living. I get the same feeling you describe when I think about myself having a career in aviation. It's the only job I can truly see myself enjoying. But it costs so much damn money to get there.
I agree with Thivyan here: I enjoy every single one of your video's but this one just stands out. Exactly the kind of motivation that I need. Thank you.
Your gift goes well beyond aviation! Thank you for sharing your gift of inspiration with both children and parents. I started watching your videos because of my lifelong love of aviation (45 years ago I had a poster of a 747 cockpit over my bed and flew myself to sleep every night). But as a parent of three children (one in their 20s, one in their teens, one only 9 years old), I have been buoyed by your total love for your parents and for your children. Peace always, and may all your flights be smooth.
Honestly thank you, I wanted to work in an airline for a while now and you really gave me the inspiration to actually start to fully take pride on my studies to become my dream. Thank you so much for making this video
Great advice for any profession. I'm not in aviation but I worked hard to achieve my goals, and my job gives me that warm passion as well. It was a long hard road but I'm so happy now! Love your videos, and good luck to anyone else chasing their dreams!
Dear mentour thank you really very much. For all children who has the same passion as yours you are our hero and our teacher.I hope for you and your family all the bests and I also hope when I achieve my goal to be a colleague of yours. Thank you for supporting us and I hope you continue entertaining and instructing us.
Thanks Mentour! You really gave me a push that i needed here! I have had a really rough time just getting my PPL (broken airplanes, bad weather, instructors that really haven't cared about flying or showing up, you name it. And as a cherry on top i was injured in a hockey game a couple of weeks back which has grounded me for the rest of the year) You reminded me of that dream and why to keep going! Blue skies! :)
This bug bit me at very young age...I was like 4-5 years old...now I'm 18, studying to reach the goal of my life...become a fighter pilot. Great video sir! Keep up!
Just thank you man. Thank you for your great hopes, your motivations, your experiences. Just want to be a so professionnal pilot like you in a few years. See you in the air !
Very heartwarming explanation, I can tell from my own experience, I got the aviation bug the first time I flew on a plane, it has pushed me beyond what I had imagined before I had learned and achieved so much since then, things that I would probably never even come across if I had not had that bug, and now still working toward that goal,
Hello your channel is awesome!! Exactly what I need no other channels like yours. Now I'm 15 and doing my ppl and I have always had a passion for aviation!!!!!!!! But when I get asked why I struggle to find the reason why I love it so much. Thanks mate
You are just awesome! I do feel exactly the same for aviation as you, the way you explain that feeling of the passion is just exactly how it's described correctly. I do have a lot of respect for how you handled and worked so hard for your results. Thank you for making all these video's, and I really like the way you are doing your upper best to bring your feelings and knowledge over to other people! You are doing an amazing job, thank you! I'am glad I discovered your channel
You are such a great inspiration. Your videos and the way of looking on life is simply amaizing. I love that sentence of yours "I hope you are doing fantastic as always". I didn't had that kind of support from my parrents but, as I am parrent myself now, I will support my kids in apsolutely anything they'll get to mind.
Great advice man. I'm 17 and I spoke to my parents about being a pilot. They have basically planned out my life. If I get good grades I shall be traveling to Australia to train!
Hi there, I really enjoyed watching your video, and I definetly think I can relate to your story! Funny thing, minutes after watching your video I recieved an email letting me know that my CAE exam results were ready, where I got an A, which means I now have a C2 level in English (the best one) meaning I'm probably not going to have to do the next, and last exam, Proficiency! Anyway, your video has certainly made me quite confident and most certainly helped me. If all goes to plan, in 2 years I will be going to a small flight scool, that's kind of a university aswell, where I will beging by getting my license and at the same time a "Aeronautical sciences" degree that (as I've been told by a neighbour, who Is also beggining his journey towards becoming a pilot) should allow me to skip some of the theoretical exams. Thanks for making this video!
I am 20 and from Ireland and done my first flight lesson a few months ago. I'm going to have to train part time because of the cost etc. I am in last year of college and I hope to get good job and pay for flying school. it's hard to stay motivated when the cost is so high. aviation bug is not so cheap lol. even to work as a flight attendant would be amazing for me. but since I was 6 I dreamed of being a pilot. :)
Hi captain! In a future video, I would like you talking about how to choose a school. What does a comming student need to look for when you are visiting the different schools. What to be aware of and not to be aware of. I know you recently talked about MCC and so on. Here is some of my topics, you might could talk about. * How many of the school's students gets job after education - I guess that's very important. * Does the school know different people in different airliners to help the student get a job after the education. - Does the students generally get job inside or outside the country of the school. * What extacly does the school offer. MCC/ELT courses. What courses are pre-paid in form of the product you buy. Which courses do you have to buy later on to make your job chances better. (Not thinking of type-rating. I remember you talking about that topic in an earlier video). * Does certain airlines hire from specific schools - do they have some kind of "deal"? * Does it matter how old the school is - what kind of experience they got? * Is it important to pay in rates backwards - month to month for example. Generally things to be aware of when choosing a school. Kind regards, Steffen
Hi Mentour! This video describes exactly what I am going through now, and it's amazing, just like you tell! Thank you for all of your videos, they are really great! Also the fact that you are Swedish makes it even better.... 😊
Hi, your video inspired a lot and I have to thanks for that. I had a step daughter who she is age 11 and she want to be flight attendant in a commercial airlines, I could see her eyes are full of that passion although she never flies what so ever. Just like you did before, her school result is somewhat average but she work really hard. What you bring me are how to do my job in order to make her to get her goal is going to support and guide her stay away to the trouble. If turns out isn't what she want or she are not capable I would't blame that, on the other hand, I should be greatful as long as she experiencing to what she experienced. Being a step father is far more difficult to her biological father and I need to working even harder as there are still in some differences, you know that. P.S. My step daughter is living in Philippines where the commercial flight are still growing there and hope for more chance for her. A deep thank you right from heart. Have a good day, cheers
Hey Mentor, I just want to thank you so much for your video series. I admin a flight enthusiast group on Facebook and all the time members approach me requesting information on becoming a pilot, I always try to help to the best of my abilities based on research I have done. I also want to fly and I am currently exploring various options to start my training but it so much more meaningful to potential pilots to hear incite from an individual in the industry. I definitely have the aviation bug, once I hear a plane flying by; it is almost impossible not to look up. Thanks again, greetings from Jamaica.
***** I have posted your videos to the page and the feedback has been good. If you would like to stop by, here is a link: m.facebook.com/groups/321120761307226?src=email_notif. Our name is Pilot Squad International on fb. One of the most frequent questions i get is "how to finance flight training" for those who wish to do self sponsored training. Would you mind shedding some light on this?
Thank you so much mentour! I'm 16 and now i know exacly what im going to do to archieve my goal of becomming a pilot now im just hoping it will work out.. Thank you so much for this video! I wish you the best for your pilot life & best of luck! Thank you again captain.
Amazing video! I am at the moment doing the modular way, working, studing engeneering and of course flying! I already saw all you videos and they actually help a lot when having a bad day! Just keep making this fantastics podcast! Greetings from Argentina!
Hello Mentour, when I was young my dream is to become a airliner pilot. So, I'am now 18 year old and if I pass medical exam next week I'm going to enroll SMATSA Aviation Academy. Your channel is so great and big respect from Serbia. :)
Yeah, a lot of home truths here! The aviation bug first bit me when I visited the airport as a young child; the noise, the smell, the whole environment. That is still with me today. In fact I believe it has always been with me, yes, it has dropped out for a few months, a year, even ten, but it has always returned, so I now know it’ll now be with me for the rest of my life. Thing is, if I could give it all away tomorrow I would! To someone who would make much better use of it than I have, and not waste it. Most of the time I have no regrets, I am in an established career, which I really like, and is a good fit. So I don’t plan to make any use of my bug, other than a hobby and interest, and I do like to use it to help people. If I was to use it professionally now I would do something like work at the airport, or a desk job in flight safety. Regarding parents and aviation, think I’ll need to put that part in a separate reply! Thanks for reading.
7:55 exactly my story but.... my parents didn't have any part in my choice of becoming a pilot it was a sudden decision.... it was a second.....a small light
Hey MenTour ! Really perfect video i really enjoyed it a lot and it helped me a lot, actually all of your videos helped me a lot , I Have to say that Im 17 year old from IRAN and i wanted to become pilot from when i was 5 years old and my passion started from watching Aircrafts Departures and Arrivals at the Airports, watching aircraft that were crossing our City at high altitudes also Flight Simulator. Right now Im at 8th grade of school and in our country we have a 9th grade which is important to pass a final exam called : Konkoor which is an entery for us to a good University, We have to get Perfect results in order to get signed up in a great University, For University my major will be Aircraft engineering and Maintanence along with that im going to study Aviation and get my licenses, Hopefully I Will become a Boeing 737-400 or an A320 F/O, Depends on what Airline im going to get hired...Again i thank you sooo much you motivated me and your videos are the best in UA-cam , And as you said this Goal was the best thing that happened to me , Also i didnt flown in an aircraft a lot , I just flown in an aircraft 2 times but that wont stop me from flying :) , Again THANK YOU A Bunch Keep up the great job Captain!
You was so similar to me!!! I am 14 years old and have problems with maths. But I want to become a pilot since I was 9 years old. I also had a lesson with instructor on UL aircraft... Next year I will do training for glider. Then PPL..........ATPL 😀
All your videos are amazing!! Everything I don't know come out in your videos. So much great and useful information. I am really really wanting to become a pilot with that dream. When is the best time to start training? P.S I am only 13. Well done! keep up the good work!
Great video! I don't think I can fly (double vision), but what you're saying about goals makes a lot of sense to me. Currently learning Korean - someone else will have to do the flying to get me to Korea, though ;-)
I have the aviation bug too!!! 🤣 I'm 27 though and STILL haven't really flown yet. My Mom tells me that I "CAN'T" be a pilot because of certain things. I CONSTANTLY argue with her about that because I KNOW I have potential. It DEVASTATES me that she does NOT support my dream of becoming an AIRLINE PILOT!! I REALLY love school and I have ALWAYS worked hard in school! I'm at my 4 year University now for Recreation Management to become a Park Ranger, but I don't really have as much motivation for it as I do for aviation! My plan is to become a Park Ranger after I graduate and once I get enough money, start flight training and go from there.
hi mentour thankyou so much for this amazing video I'm sure to subscribe to your channel and for re lighting the aviation bug i can't thank you enough :) :)
You've been living in Ö-vik? Maybe you would know my father or Uncle then, Lars Wallin or my uncle Johan Wallin. Lived at Högbergsgatan! I spend my summers as a kid up there, really beautiful place!
You are an inspiration to me, I'm from the United States and my dream is to fly 737s although obtaining 1500 hours flight time is going to be a challenge might as well try! Subscribed and I followed you on twitter and sent a friend request on facebook.
Hey this is a hard subject for me, I feel like my parents show little interest in me perusing piloting due to the costing of the job. But I have the aviation bug and it wont go until I achieve my dream. Thanks for your great videos.
Hi, are there any qualities you have to have in order to become a pilot? Like for exemple, in order to play an instrument well you have to have talent, musical ear, good motor skills, etc. Are there any such things in becoming a pilot?
Hi! My name is Rares, and I am a 17 years old student from Romania. When i was a young child, I used to draw a lot, especially ships and houses. But.. At the age of 7, I went on vacation with my parents for the first time with a plane. I was fascinated.. I started to look at planes like they were the most precious thing that exists. I started drawing them a lot. Since then, we have been traveling on average.. 3 times a year, and I have to thank my parents for that. In those years, I started loving planes.. I started loving watching planes. It is amazing for me. At the age of 12 I discovered Flight Simulator X. And that.. That changed my life. I have a problem. My parents hate planes, they always thought I am not normal because I watch planes landing.. And it was frustrating. I started architecture classes last year, it was ok.. But.. In the back, there were my parents.. Not me.. My dream is to become a pilot.. And I can't do that without their support.. Please help me..
Also, the story is longer, but UA-cam didn't allow me to write much more.. Yeah. Thank you for what are you doing, and thank you for the information you are giving to everyone, here, on youtube. Cheers! Rares :)
I was bitten by that bug back in the early to mid 1960's and it hasn't gone away! Yet I have only been able to afford one formal flight lesson, and have had the controls in my hands for probably another hour or so flying with other no-flight instructor pilots. Probably thousands of hours of X-plane flight sim in numerous aircraft as well, and in one case, while flying a 747 on three engines following an engine failure, I was miraculously able to recover from the spin that took place not knowing I needed to add rudder to keep a spin from happening at lower speeds following an engine failure, by the Lord giving me a word of knowledge (one of the prophetic gifts), that prompted me to cut the opposite engine. So...at this point at my age (59), I don't need to know how to tell my parents, but I do need to find creative ways to afford the training to get my PPL. Any ideas for on ageing carpenter? Oh, and by the way...I almost forgot to mention, my mom's side of the family was also from Sweden! My mother's maiden name was Nystrom, and her mother's maiden name was Lindscog (not sure of the spelling).
I have wanted to be a pilot for many years now. I have money in the bank and were all ready to start flying. But my parents don't think it's important and don't really support me yet. I've tried to gain their interest and support but it's no use. Its been my dream and im not giving up now.
wondering about modular way vs integrated way? can you make a video about that since there are so many debates going on. for me modular is the way to go but what if i save money and get straight to my integrated training? since i heard Airlines prefer integrated.
hi mentour I am an aspiring pilot . I live in India .I have the aviation bug. I have looked for flying schools and found various courses by CTC Aviation. I am not able to decide which course to go for and your help would be a great help. I have seen various courses for MPL from airlines like Qatar airways, virgin Atlantic and some more of the airlines but these airlines will give you job as first officer . what the difference between CPL to MPL and pros and cons of the MPL license. which is the better course. I hope could use some of your great knowledge... Hoping for an early reply.
I failed in my school grade because of bully and other factors, but i have a college degree now. So will i have the chance to get enrolled ? I studied this much because i wanna become a pilot.. but because of poor school grades my chances are slim. I hope ill get enrolled this time ❤
ReHi Mentour: Your experience at age 14 was very sikmilar to mine at that same age, except that for me the bug was electronics. My mother was a dietitian, and so was trained in chemistry, Prior to the turning point, I wanted her to teach me valences. but she wanted me to study it myself. The rest of this is a long story, but a usually fascinating one and with a lot of learning potential for the younger generations. Public Speaking: ============= As you might imagine, when I started doing public speaking, when most beginners are shaking in their boots to start, no so I. The first speech a new member of Toastmasters will do, the Icebreaker is a mere 4 to 6 minutes get up in front of about 25 people and talk about yourself. When I did my icebreaker, there was NO shaking of the boots! "Ex fundus egressus sum!" it began! "Out of the black hole of Hell I am arisen! - and the Ancient Romans relly meant it!". 4 years, 4e clubs 3 languages and more. toastmasters is not a school! What you pou in you get out. I pout in, I got out, but unfortunately for what I most needed I had to do it more in spite of those who chose to withhold from me what I most needed, so I was a hot potato! Nonetheless, I did the first 10 speeches (and did some of them multiple times as I liked to use then to teach also.) and obtained the competent communicator award. The remaining goal or "bug": ======================= This is why I hope to soon be able to put my voice and more to all this on You Tube, but time, money and much more here take their toll. also since then, my speaking voice has become much more gravelly, which I am not so happy about. I was far more visual than inclined to read text. so I then dumped the interest in chemistry. shortly thereafter I was tinkering with a flashlight bulb, some wore and a few batteries. cole turkey, I could understand what happened when I lit that lamp with one or two batteries in series. So very basic but also so independent. that was when the bug started and grew, like your bug for aviatiion. Infortunately the aim was seriously messed up with emotional and personality difficulties, arising from an exceptionally compolex misture of multiple causes, my mother';s having been a dominator being only one of them. Nonetheless, in spite of all that, the electronics bug grew, like an outright obsession. By the time I was graduating from high school,in my later teens,m I wanted to go to McGill and become an electronic engineer. Unfotunately, Mc Gill wa s shor tot seats and demanded competitively high marks not only in math and sciences but all round. When came to History and literature, I was a total bomb-out with marks like 13%. Both my mpother and I were very concerned, espaecially as the englsih scjhool system of the itme regardede all the young prople as eithe "board room material" (read snob to the top) or "drop out bums" (read useless and likely on welfare). Neither of these fit my needs. At the end of hoigh school I went to summer school to try and fix my problem with my marks in the humanities, but to no avail. continued...
...continued 2: My future was really in a crisis!========================= Then, as it happened at the time, I was socializing with a group of teenagers some 5 miles away atthe then Y.M.C.A. in Pointe Claire. this was held in a room over an old ambulance garage near the waterfront. The group was good, but the benefoits for me were rather stunted because of my problem. I was more aware of that problem than most teenagers would have been if they had been fraught with it, but that alone was not enough to solve the problem. This was a truly uniquely difficult case, as later has been proven. then, one Wednesday night, sitting in a lounge session with this group of teenagers something special broke. (Note: I did not know these teenagers except from the Y.M.C.A., as they went to a different school in a different school board.) all of a sudden one of them spoke oup to a boy there whose name happen3ed to be Alex. "Alex! We haven't seen you for a while, where have you been?" Alex then replied: "I'm taking auto mechanics at école des metiers de l'automobile, Pine and St. Denis!" This to that group would have been like a foreign country at the time! Immediately Alex was deluged with all sorets of typical student questions: What does it cost? What does it take to get in? etc. While I was usually the big talker, on this occasion I was dead silent. It had occurred to me that this somehow might be the salvation of my career crisis! The mor it went on, the more focused on it all I was, by no realizing that this very likely WAS the salvation I needed.
... Continued 3: When the questions had subsided, I had one more question: "Alex do they also have electronics?" Alex immediately replied: "Yes, taht is what most of the guys are taking, it's at Montreal Institute of Technology, 200 Sherbrooks St. W." YOU COULDN'T HAVE STOPPED ME! I grilled Alex with every student question imaginable! At th end, I went home and told my mother "I need bus money!" along with the explanation. Bus monet to and from Montreal in today's money would be equivalent to about $16.50 CAD, much more than a typical teenager's allowance would be. While my mother was very reserved about allowances etc. This time she agreed immediately. As it went on, this school was also short of seats and demanded competitively high entrance exam marks to get in. also there would be an intensive weeding out in the first year. Every year they would have about 1350 applicants and had only capacity for 850.
...Continued 4: To get in, a student could either get in with grade 9, or at the high school leaving level (Grade 11 with a minimum of 8 papers). Students entering at the grade 9 level would spend a preparatory year doing a series of stage shop courses along with the academic subjects, and then would join the Grade 11 entries in their second year to do 3 more years of specialization, culminating in the diplome des etudes techniques. When I was told that I would have to return to write the exams, I asked: "I have 8 papers and grade 11, but my math was not well taught in the lat years. If I don't qualify to get in with the grade 9 group, I don't mind the extra year." Yes, I could do that. Relieved somewhat I returned home and again returned on the appointed date to write the exams. On the third visit to hear the results, I forst listened to the list of those accepted at the grade 11 level. I was not in that list. I was somewhat anxious by now. When the list for the grade 9s was read, and iI was not in that list either, I was VERY anxious! I knew something was wrong. I then went to the front desk to ask what had happened, but never got a straight answer. Nonetheless, later I was accepted anyhow, but there was never a clear mention of why and how. Given that my parents were socializing with many of the executives and presidents of local companies who would be hiring the school's graduates, I surmise that at some private dinner party, those executives would have heard of my plight. Consequently I believe I got in by "pull" or influence, not by the normal manner. the school was very beholding to the employers who were to hire their graduates, and at a time when, due to the economics of the cold war, the companies had a strong demand and budget for technical employees. Today's workplace is, of course very different, and people skills are far more essential to employability than they were at the time, again consequence of the cold war arms race. all in all, the so-called English section started out with about 90 students, and by the spring of 1967, when I graduated, I was 14th of the remaining lot of 29 with a thesis mark of 87%. that mark also was after 10% had been arbitrarily deducted because ofthe typed version being 10 days late. (I had to wait that 10 days because Mrs. Vauthier, at the time was typing a doctoral thesis for McGill, and mine had to wait, otherwise it would have been 97%) In the dying days of that school's existence, one of the professors who had known the history of these schools had remarked that my thesis was one of the few engineering level theses seen on that 60 year history coming from a technician. That was the last year of that school, as the following year the Quebec government started the current C.E.G.E.P. system. The classes to be were split into two different schools as the cost of bilingual administration at the time was excessively expensive. Our class became effectively the guinea pig class for the whole electro-tech system in the C.E.G.E.P.s of today. While a technician's theses was normally expected to be more of a technical report, mine was a true electronic engineering design. We had started with vacuuim tubes at the rime. In second year transistors and TTL gates were in the curriculum. The third year was applications. My thesis was the design of an auto-polarity sample and hold voltmeter and had a hybrid design, incorporating Vacuum tubes, gas-filled tubes, transistors and field effect transistors which had not even been mentioned. At that time Texas Instrument were marketing the first examples of these - bleeding edge. As you could well imagine, I could go on with many more life experiences all fascinating, and all very detailed and lengthy, but those for another time. From my other posts you know already WHY I find it important that my stories become known, because they teach what was both right and wrong about the whole history for the sake of posterity. Of course the world young people face today is very different in many ways - albeit on the surface, but more fundamentally, the similarity of so much of the life-essence! Today, retired at the age of 71, I sit behind one of the computer in my self made network. I designed this one, as with many of my others. However when I go to buy a computer, typically I will provide the box, power supply, and at least one hard drive (or more recently an SSD) and have the vendor of the motherboard, processor and RAM install it and test. This costs an added $50.00 to $75.00, buity that is effectively an insurance policy. when they install they are responsible if anything turns up not working, and those 3 items represent the majority of the whole machine cost - at least at the start. My last machine cost about $1500.00 for these items alone, but if one were to value thewhole machine as it currently is, it would amount to considerably more, as I have repeatedly modified and upgraded. So, in the end what I might have lost in a stunted career, I have for myself in later years, and this is where my participation emanates from! All the best to you and your followers!
more like the content of this vid, personal :D and still the technical please, you could probably alternate every week between personal and technical :D
Hello Mentour, I will like to get your pilot/expert perspectiveon the B737 and A320 (Boeing vs Airbus) on issues such as; work space, instrumentation setup, automation etc. Type Rating which one first Boeing (737) or Airbus(320)? Thanks
hi mentour!!!!at the first portion of the vedio as you mentioned that there is kind of feelinh yes ihave that....its an unexpressable feeling.....and i have a question too....... is there any way or a permission to fly a simulator in country airports?
I'll start my flying school on 1 year. What do you suggest start reading? I went at FAA and they gave me a couple of handbooks but I wanna hear your suggestions
i'm 15 and i want to be a pilot but my parents have absolutely no idea 😂😂 aviation is kind of a secret passion for me. in my country, when you're 12, you go through this really important exam that determines which secondary school you go to and lucky for me i got into a really good school. my parents really want me to become a lawyer and at some point i never really went against it because of the fact i had a slight interest in law and politics but the idea of having to study for a very long time didn't sit right with me. i felt like my biggest dream was to travel, travel and see the world. i guess planes always fasinated me i always liked the feeling of being up in the air and free. but i'm scared to tell my parents because i've never really said anything about what i wanted to do and i feel they would not approve :/
Hello pilot Mentour. I started watching your videos last week so I'm watching this video now one year after its publication but never is late. I have a question for you: I'm Stefanos, 15 years old and I want to be a commercial pilot when I grow up. But my family can't pay the tuition fees for the flight school since they are huge and in Greece where I live not only my family but also many other families suffer from economic crisis, so I think you understand. How can I find the amount of money needed to pay the tuition fees or generally how can I be an Airline pilot? Is there any alternative? Thank you for this video it really inspired me. Hope to see more videos on your channel and looking forward to your reply.
Mentor pilot I need help, I'm starting to lose that spark I once had for flying. I'm 15 and I actively use my home flight simulator but lately I've started to lose interest in flying & I wish to keep the dream any suggestions? Anything helps.
Hello Mentour pilot, I'm 25 years old, I've already have my A level in maths and physic with good grades. Now I'm opting to go to training at a flying school, does my age a problem? The cause was that I was helping my dad's in the shop because he's old that's why. I live in Mauritius near South Africa in the Indian Ocean, and I see a good flying school call 43 air school, and it's a professional air school as it is a renowned school in the south Africa. So I wanted to know about your views about this question! You help me so much with information and advice that's why I don't want to abandon my dream of becoming an airline pilot. Thanks for your help and support, wait for your answer Captain! 😉
Hey Mentour, I love your videos! Keep up the good work! My situation is that my parents think that considering all the money I'll spend on flight training, all the time for flight training, and the starting salary of $20.000, it's not worth it being a pilot. They also say that it'll mess up my sleep schedule and ruin my health by flying so much. But it's been my dream to be a pilot since I was a little kid. My parents however, think that the return on investment is not high enough. What can I say to refute their arguments? I thank you in advance.
I'm 14 years old and my passion is to become a pilot. Would a flight simulator on pc be good training if I bought a throttle stick and controller. If so, what would be the most realistic software/simulator?
Captain can we use this video as part of our presentation to our potential students wants to join to our academy.Thank you very much on your kind response sir.
Yes sir..We do understand. We just want to make sure that we have the permission to use other person property. We also thank you for creating such very informative video and help encourage young people to follow their dream..For more info about us.Please check our website www.apgiaaphilippines.com/ .Again thank you very much and were looking forward on your next video..
Hey Sure. So far I have tried it without a VR headset. No, problem, I will give the review during the day
Hola Andrés...
¿de dónde eres? Yo soy de Uruguay.
¿cómo te ha ido con la carrera de piloto?
OMg Ur sooo lucky only 250 hours in my country in North America we need 1500 Hours!
Keep doing what you are doing.
ihatemegatron216 what is the book name
Your story reminds me of my first flight. It was my 14th birthday and I went up in PA28 on a cold winter morning in Northern England. As soon as the aircraft left the runway I was amazed at the view and the controls of the aircraft. I'm now 17 and just got myself a job and every penny of that is going into flying lessons and a maths tutor to ready myself for my entry to ATPL training next year. Great video, it's always nice seeing people with a passion for flying :)
this is scarily like me, i was 14 2 months ago and i did the same thing in the same plane on my birtday...
I flew first time on a PA28 as well! :D
I think you're the greatest dude ever
Amazingly motivational! Thank you very much.
Cheers from Saudi ;)
You are such a great inspiration. Your videos and the way of looking on life is simply amaizing. I love that sentence of yours "I hope you are doing fantastic as always". I didn't had that kind of support from my parrents but, as I am parrent myself now, I will support my kids in apsolutely anything they'll get to mind.
Thank you! That’s great to hear and I wish you the best of luck!
Kind regards,
Steffen
Thank you so much for this video, it has made me finally stand up and tell my parents what my real passion is!
I think you and 737 channel have the best commercial aviation vids on you tube hands down
i sure will
i have a couple questions for you, is it ok to ask them here or do you have a email I can send my questions to.
thank you, will do
Thanks sir for being active on uploading. your efforts don't go unnoticed , we notice.
You explained everything I'm going through and need to know. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much mentour! I'm 16 and now i know exacly what im going to do to archieve my goal of becomming a pilot now im just hoping it will work out.. Thank you so much for this video! I wish you the best for your pilot life & best of luck! Thank you again captain.
Love the disclaimer in the beginning xD
+The Downshift :)
@@MentourPilot I desperately want to be a pilot! I want to fly with you sir and I LOOVE aviation
Amazing video! I am at the moment doing the modular way, working, studing engeneering and of course flying! I already saw all you videos and they actually help a lot when having a bad day! Just keep making this fantastics podcast! Greetings from Argentina!
I don’t even know from whene i loved planes it was so deep now its time for that dream to be fulfill your dream
and you should do a podcast about what you can do to improve your aviation knowledge before flight school :)))
thanks!
Hello Mentour, when I was young my dream is to become a airliner pilot. So, I'am now 18 year old and if I pass medical exam next week I'm going to enroll SMATSA Aviation Academy. Your channel is so great and big respect from Serbia. :)
7-10 YEAR AGO, I almost DIE there XD
I will work hard for this one live for this one goal and for this one dream!
I actually really needed to hear this, it was absolutely Mind changing honestly. Awesome vid!!😎👊
Thank you Pilot Mentour. This video is so rad and aspire me a lot. I will thank you one day. I guarantee you. Thank you again
7:55 exactly my story but....
my parents didn't have any part in my choice of becoming a pilot
it was a sudden decision....
it was a second.....a small light
Kanonbra peppande video, Excellent, inspiring video
This is why i love you man!
that's outstanding, well done very inspiring!! :)
Beautiful story ❤
You are an inspiration to me, I'm from the United States and my dream is to fly 737s although obtaining 1500 hours flight time is going to be a challenge might as well try! Subscribed and I followed you on twitter and sent a friend request on facebook.
I have this feeling always. I am addicted to gliding :)
Let's see there's this and programming.... Either way, very good video, thanks!
I have a question.
What can I start study about being pilot before joining a flight school?
Thank you for videos.
Aeronautical Engineering
Aeronautics.
Great video! Thank you!
very inspiring video ;) keep it up
Hey this is a hard subject for me, I feel like my parents show little interest in me perusing piloting due to the costing of the job.
Cheers! Rares :)
+Mentour Pilot I'll try.. :)
Thanks this has helped soo much
Fabulous videos this needs more likes
+Jack Simms planes Thank you! Glad you liked it!
I have wanted to be a pilot for many years now. I have money in the bank and were all ready to start flying. But my parents don't think it's important and don't really support me yet. I've tried to gain their interest and support but it's no use. Its been my dream and im not giving up now.
wondering about modular way vs integrated way? can you make a video about that since there are so many debates going on. for me modular is the way to go but what if i save money and get straight to my integrated training? since i heard Airlines prefer integrated.
hi mentour
I am an aspiring pilot .
I hope ill get enrolled this time ❤
Gonna help alot...thank you mentour :D
Thank you Mentour!!!
Well Said, well done.. Thank you..
It sounds kind of weird but that's so true because I am in high school and most of my friends don't know what they want to do after school.
ReHi Mentour:
Your experience at age 14 was very sikmilar to mine at that same age, except that for me the bug was electronics. My mother was a dietitian, and so was trained in chemistry, Prior to the turning point, I wanted her to teach me valences. but she wanted me to study it myself.
The rest of this is a long story, but a usually fascinating one and with a lot of learning potential for the younger generations.
Public Speaking:
=============
As you might imagine, when I started doing public speaking, when most beginners are shaking in their boots to start, no so I.
The remaining goal or "bug":
=======================
This is why I hope to soon be able to put my voice and more to all this on You Tube, but time, money and much more here take their toll. also since then, my speaking voice has become much more gravelly, which I am not so happy about.
At the end of hoigh school I went to summer school to try and fix my problem with my marks in the humanities, but to no avail.

...continued 2:
My future was really in a crisis!=========================
Then, as it happened at the time, I was socializing with a group of teenagers some 5 miles away atthe then Y.M.C.A. in Pointe Claire. this was held in a room over an old ambulance garage near the waterfront.
(Note: I did not know these teenagers except from the Y.M.C.A., as they went to a different school in a different school board.)
all of a sudden one of them spoke oup to a boy there whose name happen3ed to be Alex.
"Alex! We haven't seen you for a while, where have you been?"
Alex then replied: "I'm taking auto mechanics at école des metiers de l'automobile, Pine and St. Denis!"
This to that group would have been like a foreign country at the time! Immediately Alex was deluged with all sorets of typical student questions: What does it cost? What does it take to get in? etc.
While I was usually the big talker, on this occasion I was dead silent. It had occurred to me that this somehow might be the salvation of my career crisis!
The mor it went on, the more focused on it all I was, by no realizing that this very likely WAS the salvation I needed.
... Continued 3:
When the questions had subsided, I had one more question:
"Alex do they also have electronics?"
Alex immediately replied: "Yes, taht is what most of the guys are taking, it's at Montreal Institute of Technology, 200 Sherbrooks St. W."
YOU COULDN'T HAVE STOPPED ME!
Every year they would have about 1350 applicants and had only capacity for 850.
...Continued 4:
To get in, a student could either get in with grade 9, or at the high school leaving level (Grade 11 with a minimum of 8 papers).
If I don't qualify to get in with the grade 9 group, I don't mind the extra year."
Yes, I could do that.
Vauthier, at the time was typing a doctoral thesis for McGill, and mine had to wait, otherwise it would have been 97%)
In the dying days of that school's existence, one of the professors who had known the history of these schools had remarked that my thesis was one of the few engineering level theses seen on that 60 year history coming from a technician.
I like the Intro music :D
more like the content of this vid, personal :D and still the technical please, you could probably alternate every week between personal and technical :D
Hello Mentour, I will like to get your pilot/expert perspectiveon the B737 and A320 (Boeing vs Airbus) on issues such as; work space, instrumentation setup, automation etc. Type Rating which one first Boeing (737) or Airbus(320)? Thanks
ok, thanks
hi mentour!!!!at the first portion of the vedio as you mentioned that there is kind of feelinh yes ihave that....its an unexpressable feeling.....and i have a question too.......
is there any way or a permission to fly a simulator in country airports?
I like this intro!
Hello, is it good if my ambition at 5yo until now 13yo still being a pilot. Yeah, when i think about Pilot im getting stronger
Amazing!
You really inspired me. Thank you very much!
+Mentour Pilot Your doing a great thing with all these video podcasts!
I LOOVE the aviation bug
Fantastic! :D
hey go for it man!
+Mentour Pilot Thank you and keep making great videos! :)
I'm 14 years old and my passion is to become a pilot. Would a flight simulator on pc be good training if I bought a throttle stick and controller. If so, what would be the most realistic software/simulator?
heh heh It's a great way to start learning!! The cheapest one is FSX:SE and the most realistic is XPlane-11, I have both and love them both! (:
HI Mentour how to do do well the ATPL exam!?
reading books or playing in the atpl simulator
..??
Hello Mentour I am 12 but please tell me. To which subjects do I have to focus on, If I want to be pilot?
whats the song at the start?
