Where can I find agates? Value of agates? Q & A Video:
Hi guys, in this video I answer the questions you asked me in my last videos. Where and how can I find agates? How do I know the value of an agate? What is Parallax?
Feel free to visit my agate shop:

Please make a tutorial post on how to identify areas where this beautiful stone can be found.

Hope everything is going great with the new shop. Some fantastic sedimentary agates in my area. Often under appreciated I think. Yes they often have more fractures but some are just as nice as the igneous agates. They both form in similar ways I believe but vastly different host rock. I think there’s still lots of undiscovered or unnamed agates out there to be found.

Always good to get another video from you, Josh! A hopeful note for people in areas without host rock: there may still be good local opportunities if you know where to go. The biggest site I'll be visiting in spring is a gravel pit in a glacial deposit with no agate sources for hundreds of miles.

Yes, that’s true! Secondary deposition of agates can happen anywhere. Be it by rivers, glaciers or just in-place erosion, where nodules can be found on the top layers of the soil, with the hard rock being under ground. 😊

    Hi all
Can you tell us if there is a process to get rid of the white layer that covers the agate? THANKS

Which white layer are you talking about. Maybe send me pictures via email, so I can understand what you would like to know..
Most agates do not have white layers you need to get rid of. 😅

Some agates from the western US deserts have a white rind of tuff. Depending what I’m doing I may soak it in industrial vinegar & scrub off the looser tuff & grind off the rest. Mainly I just leave it be, because I personally prefer leaving the outside alone.
