this doesn't work with Sonoma, the live screensaver is tied in to the wallpaper and it seems like they can not be separated. Also trying to move the video files in the folder to replace the already existing live files and renaming them the deleted file/previously downloaded apple live screensaver file does allow it to be seen if you click on the wallpaper in settings but there's an bit of a bug with it. The video does shows as a wallpaper and then plays as a screensaver but once it starts to play you won't be able to see your wallpaper when it stops. It's just a black screen as the background. I thought the fix would have something to do with replicating the frame rate but that didn't work either.

So, I use a windows computer and point the screensaver at a folder on my NAS to play a slide show of photos on a monitor in the living room. I have also had a logon script launch a video and default it to Fullscreen and play in a continuous loop. So it's not a randomizer or anything like that. So the alternative is using an old Mac and hook it to the screen using the settings you showed. Of course that may not be convenient since you would need to change the input if you wanted to watch something.

I have and iCloud shared photo album that is linked to my Apple TV. I wonder if you could put videos in that folder. I’ll have to try
One thing you should know: SSDs are not as stable as hard drives for long term offline storage. You can look into it more, it’s not high high risk, but you should still have backups.

I believe you can drop them into an album in Photos, and then tell your Apple TV to pull from that album.
Is there also a way to do this for apple tv?

FYI the west side of hwy 1 in Big Sur, land and water, is a no fly zone. I know. Lame. Only reason I mention this is prevent people getting in trouble, especially a popular UA-camr creating helpful content.

I see the video in the preview window but when I go to play the screensaver, it says "no videos"

Same problem, I just updated my OS, i think its not compatible with the newer versions yet. Best guess.
You have to make sure to add the videos to the root file folder first. On the newer OS versions these folders are hidden. Go to Users/Library and hit Command + Shift + . (period key) This will unhide all the root folders.
