Trains at: Birmingham New Street, WCML, 01/08/16

- An excellent and somewhat complicated afternoon spent at the UK's busiest railway station outside of London. Birmingham New Street where we see plenty of services from Virgin Trains, London Midland, Cross Country and Arriva Trains Wales.
Originally the filming was going rather well until I was told by one of the station staff that I now need to sign in at the Network Rail office to be allowed to film at the station which I wasn't aware of seeing as every time I've been there in the past I haven't experienced any issues with the staff at all, and then on top of that during the later stages of the film I discover that at Berkswell someone was unfortunately hit by a train which in turn caused a million delays and cancellations which forced me to end the film early and then spend the rest of the day trying to get back home, so what I ended up doing was taking a London Midland Turbostar to Rugeley Trent Valley where I then took a London Midland 350 to Rugby where I then caught a connecting service to Northampton by which time the line had been cleared and most of the services were back to the normal timetable.
But either way I really enjoyed my time here and I do encourage anyone who has not been here before to give it a try, believe me you won't be disappointed.
My next station is Birmingham Moor Street on the Chiltern Mainline.

Did you know Birmingham New Street is the hub of ALL CrossCountry services as they all call or terminate there?

Exellent video. I was at Birmingham New Street that day in the late afternoon. My home station
Did you experience any difficulties getting around? The WCML was closed due to someone being hit by a train and the cross country trains heading down south via the CML were being terminated at Leamington Spa
No I went home and then it happened. XC were going till Leamington Spa that week. I like your video diary they really good

if you want to avoid incidents with staff then print out the network rail guideines and take em with you where it quite clearly says under the headline of photography, "you can take photographs at stations", still there will always be 1 or 2 snobby little staff like her who think the world owes them
I've never really had many incidents at stations before but I may very well do just that

What is your favourite train
It all depends on the type of trains, for freight it would be the Class 70, for passenger traffic it would be the 321, for intercity routes it would be the HST, for international trains it would be the 373

Is there ever any freight at New Street?
I'd be quite surprised if there was - the station is already busy enough with all the passenger services coming through
I've seen a few 66's pass through.
There's a lot of drilling
I believe that they are putting the final touches onto the station foundations
