We re-uploaded this video to make it easier to find for new players. Do you think these refreshers on game mechanics are also useful for more experienced players and would you like to see more of these?
You also forgot proxy spotting range: When the vehicle is too close to your tank (50m i think), but not i direct line of sight, you will spot it and get spotted no matter the view range or camo value either of the tanks has.
50m. Sometimes the difference in terrain elevation may make it feel less. On Glacier, standing on top of the crashed Carrier will not yield any spot on tanks hiding under the carrier :P WG should actually display these viewrange visualisations with spheres, not flat circles.
thank you for this - i knew alot about the spotting mechanics but never knew about the spotting point on the gun mantlet - sometimes it got me confused how the enemy managed to spot me despite 80% of his turret being beheind an obstacle, and other times parts of their turrets was exposed but they couldn't see me (due to the 2 checkpoints for spotting being beheind cover). this finally explained my issues with figuring out when i could fire unspotted at enemies at closer ranges than usally.
these videos should have shorter versions and be mandatory when starting the game as part of the tutorial, or if u watch them all you get a good reward. I think the game will be better for everyone old and new if these things where more common knowledge.
Panagiotis Kolokotsis They did in patch 9.0 i think. I've been playing for 5 years and the spotting works differently in how you get assistance. How long have you been playing?
Since 2014 and the spotting mechanics where always the same since I started, they only fixed like 2 years ago that u can spot instantly someone crossing a corner and not 3 sec later when he has already crossed, that's the only change they did since I started playing
okay.. 1:) Old video before 1.0. 2:) Why did you stop the video short and not explain how Camo percentage affect the view range of enemy tanks? 3:) 1.0 Map concealment is buggy on certain maps. And explain how bush concealment affects your camo percentage when fired. I want to know the numbers. 4:) I want to know why: If I am behind multi-layered of bush and trees completely covered on all 7 points of my tank when I fire it all concealment goes away in all types of tanks in game.
It was reupload so new players could find it. They said in the start of the video they will talk about concealment in another video and you get spotted most likely when you shoot, because your camo value drops massively
The reason they waited with camo is possibly HD maps. In the old maps, you had 3 types of flora. Light, Medium and Dense, giving in order 10%, 25% and 50% camo. It was easy to tell the difference visually, just by looking at them. In HD maps I cannot tell the difference, all the bushes look the same, very dense. The only difference is their size and number (often a couple of them in a spot). I have no idea if they work any different, if they count as separate etc. My guess is, they are all thick, placing the tank right behind pretty much any bush with size big enough to cover your tank gives significant camo bonus. But I would like some official confirmed info from WG. As for camo bonus after shot. Every piece of foliage, bush, tree etc. in the area of 15m (stuff which is transparent when you look through your sniper scope) gets temporary penalty to camo it provides to you the moment you shoot. If I remember well, it drops to 10% of what they usually give (again, in old version depending on their thickness/type). So a thick bush (50%) after shot would give only 5% for some time after you shoot. That's why many tanks stand just like 14m behind the bush, and the moment they spot something they back off another 2 meters and only then shoot. The bush(es) do not lose their bonus then (but also obstruct your viewrange, so you cannot spot properly, so it's good only for shooting already spotted targets).
asking for the math: Tank A has 450m view-range and 20% camo rating. Tank B has 500m view-range and 30% camo. Tank A needs Tank B at a distance of 315m (450m - 30%) and for Tank B to spot Tank A 400m (500m - 20%) are enough, right?
Yep, that would seem correct. There's also the matter of potential obstacles on the way. But on the other hand, WG is not always true to their math and rules. For example their ammo. WG claims, that APCR (if not default ammo) lose more penetration over a distance than AP. At least percentage wise. There are tanks where this is not true, and lost of pen over distance is manually set for each tank (guns, calibers, nations do not matter). Good example are Swedish IX and X STRV TDs. Top gun has default ammo APCR of 308mm pen. Gold ammo is also APCR but with 350mm pen. (both at 100m) The tooltip with ammo in the garage says that at 500m the penetration is 298mm for standard and 340mm for gold. That's -10mm on both. But then 10mm from 308mm (standard) is 3,25% loss while 10mm from 350 (gold) is 2,86% loss. So standard APCR has higher loss of pen than premium APCR. And seeing how WG distributes spotting points, I would say their spotting mechanics also has some hidden features. Too often did I go to rush-bush spot and kept passively spotting tanks as the first guy from 150-100m and yet shared a significant chunk my spotting points with teammates in heavy tanks 250-300m behind me. So yea, math-wise it is correct, but in real life you may get totally different results and you will never know why.
Maybe it would be a good idea to add option to see those (view/spot) rays and other properties (from other Explaining mechanics and more) in training camp or other game mode. Plus i think it would be good idea to add smoke shells, game would become more tactical :) And for easier access add video player with those videos to watch them in game
Oh, Xan :D You are the reason why WG had to put dozens of nasty invisible walls and huge boulders on their maps, and now you ask them for their internal camera mod? :D
I feel that since the HD update to maps, bushes have been a little over buffed. Cant really place the blame as to why that is. Perhaps there are to many layers now? Maybe there was an unintentional buff to the camo value a bush provides? I was watching a streamer yesterday, in the open from his spot behind a rock to shoot at a moving M103. And the M103, behind a single layer of bushes not 100 meters away, was poping in and out of view range. ON the move, behind single bushes that were dispersed. Like really? Are we back in Closed Beta again? lol
I hope now brave snipers on spoting possitions in the begining of a battle do understand I can spot for them being behind them. And they can even snipe being unspotted in that case if they are smart. :)
Since the last update we lost many shots than before I really appreciate what We developers had Donne with update 1.0. Last game I was playing with T-44 I was behind M12 arty I shot arty with HE then wOW NO DAMAGE NO CRITICLE DAMAGE WTF WITH THis games and this not the only time it happened with me .
Man I found this video after 9 years playing wot. I think I saw this long time ago... anyways... Even tho all this content could make sense, it is overcomplicated for the wot average player which will never watch this video. And none of this can be applicable when most of battles in 2021 end up 15-1 or 1-15.
Visibilty mechanic is so much broken when it comes to Swedish TD's. You have a better chance to see a car from 300 meters away than to see this vehicles from 200 meters. Seems like WG equipped them with an invisible cloaks.
It is the "hitbox" for the virtual visibility rays your own tank is emitting. The box determines where the "spotting points" of the enemy (and your own) vehicle are.
Is not possible when a spotter in my case a Ru, it was spotting during all battle and shooting at same time without being spotted even in 10m distance Impossible, hackers are more than normal players, do something or people will start quitting
eh i just put my tanks to 450-460 view range ...then i just for the firepower simply becouse view range is only usefull in open maps .... oh wait we only have corridor maps
Why the hell the Gun Mantle is a view port? Why not the 4 angles of the tank? Oh God, who decided this? Ever you listen that better to do one thing good, just once? Very disappointed
Why is there no RNG on view range? I believe 25% RNG would be a great addition to the game as we already have 25% RNG on damage and penetration, I think we should convince WG to add 25% RNG to view range because a 100% consistent view range is simply unrealistic.
The spotting Mechanics in this game is just pure crap!!!! It’s over complicated and unnecessary! You can look through your view range and see everything from cars, trees, windows in the buildings, and hell even a flipping lawn mower, but you can’t see a 140 TON E-100 standing over 10ft tall sitting right there. They need to move to a realistic spotting system.
Basically a BS video. My Patton with 534 view range, still can't spot anything. Spotting is random at best. "new maps" have mega bushes with 3-4 layers
@DD Os I know that, now what? @Just Gamez "hurr durr" @Supreme Commander Gilad Pellaeon And once again, I know that. Now what? Game mechanics are mostly broken. Now there is a also a new bug where you see enemy for 0.1 sec and then he magically vanishes.
cryohellinc any view range higher than 450m kust negates enemy camouflage. So if your view range is high enough you can spot through bushes, if they're right behind it. You have to be the one to spot an enemy tank to get the assistance. I seem to do fine with my scouts. Maybe you should practice spotting.

yea maybe
Good job.
World of Tanks Europe awesome video guys ! Glory to World of Tanks!
Show some more math behind the WoT mechanics :D
no harm in reuploading them, good idea. but we need some newer and different ones!
You also forgot proxy spotting range: When the vehicle is too close to your tank (50m i think), but not i direct line of sight, you will spot it and get spotted no matter the view range or camo value either of the tanks has.

Knowledge is a choice, the reward itself is this video, why would you get a reward for them teaching you something you didn't know(probably)
Because it will encourage people to learn things, and as I said as a part of the tutorial. That shows u some stuff and you get rewards for doing it.
pixl3l I see
they did cut the video where they said before there gonna be a new video about camouflage, which never was released.
Hast du eigentlich noch die alten why u heff to be mad videos von jingles auf der festplatte?
9:08 guys, they are showing, how to *not play E-100 on Paris!!!*
Good old days, when the Bulldog had an autoloader.
Szabo Csaba now it doesnt even have a magazine
These videos are very well made
Its about time you did a refresher on this. Yanno, since yiu changed the mechanics since your last spotting video, 2 years ago.
They didn't change them? What are you talking about
Panagiotis Kolokotsis They did in patch 9.0 i think. I've been playing for 5 years and the spotting works differently in how you get assistance. How long have you been playing?

Is this applyd in world of tanks blitz
Love the vids
I’m a new player and i will love to see more helping videos like this

because its a fake mechanism has nothing to do with the reality
Thanks...now I understand how to play suici....light tanks :)
We already in WoT 1.0, the map has changed a lot, it will be great if the video made in the new HD map
Junze Zhang But the mechanics are the same.
Very useful when your heavies heavies camp along with TDs because they might do some damage.
The fact there is a detailed video on this, already shows that it unnecessarily complicated.
dat music
This was useful 😊
Glad it was helpful!

I think you guys should add the circles on blitz and even the line
Chuck Norris doesn’t load gold, gold loads chuck Norris rounds.
:D

nice video guys :)
Thx u teaching me how to spotted enemy because I'm a beginner
Ok but where are the checkpoints and view ports on a TD / SPG if they don’t have a turret?
Does this also apply in blitz?
Yes
Dont forget %25 +/- view range spotting thing soft stat
Thats a great tutorial!
Make a video about Concelament !
Make some more please! :D
Explain us how to deal with 268 4 and east spawn on fjords pls that would help allot
Is there any way to get that camera mod?
Would be nice for other content creators to get their hands on a decent one with more customization!
Oh, Xan :D You are the reason why WG had to put dozens of nasty invisible walls and huge boulders on their maps, and now you ask them for their internal camera mod? :D

like those videos ♥️👌
Explain why some bushes on maps not work or any HT behind bush owerspot LT tanks:)
I hope now brave snipers on spoting possitions in the begining of a battle do understand I can spot for them being behind them. And they can even snipe being unspotted in that case if they are smart. :)
After 29k games I finally know the answer jeez.
CAN YOU PLEAS MAKE THIS ON WOT BLITZ THERE IS NO LOGIC HVYS SPOTED LIGHTS BEFORE !
does this work the same way on blitz?
I can't believe a tank is considered hidden when the checkpoint is behind a twig.
why diddnt WG tell us about these checkpoints before?!@# omg ive been overthinking scouting this whole time!
Since the last update we lost many shots than before I really appreciate what We developers had Donne with update 1.0. Last game I was playing with T-44 I was behind M12 arty I shot arty with HE then wOW NO DAMAGE NO CRITICLE DAMAGE WTF WITH THis games and this not the only time it happened with me .
why was there an IS-4 with the D-25T?
just remove invisible tanks make it more real.

And none of this can be applicable when most of battles in 2021 end up 15-1 or 1-15.
1:01 When you get the initial spot and realise they have half health.
If you can explain this , explain broken hitboxes :p
Or broken 8 tier MM,T32 10 X on row with 10 tiers with 198 pen...
It's work in blitz?
is just a re-upload from 2015 !!!
"someone is a gifted sniper" as he snipes his team mate... 0:10
I know it's a joke
"Why do you need all these fancy consumables and equipment??" *Easy! To give us money!*
What i love the most in there videos is the fact... that even WG spams gold in videos its such a joke^^
why did the video stoped in the middle of a the speak ad 12:25
It seems by the end you guys needed a part 2 lol
did WG remove the six sense?
Is it the same for wot blitz?
“Majik”

When i use German tanks why it is glitchy
💡
kalinka kalinka kalinka kamaya!
i always thought this spotting mechanic was kinda BS to deal with small maps its just annoying
the video stop ad 12:25 and it shud have been 14:33 long video

eh i just put my tanks to 450-460 view range ...then i just for the firepower simply becouse view range is only usefull in open maps .... oh wait we only have corridor maps
And now explain why dont work bushes and trees ? I am hiden behind bush, bush is not transparent, but enemy tank spot me!
me suscribo
Like !
New update, old replays 🤔🤔
Vibi cility
4.57 after 6 year say that wg about scout really shame
Please in Italian😢🙄
Somebody sucks damage like Chuck Norris
Okey LOL
Why the hell the Gun Mantle is a view port?
Why not the 4 angles of the tank?
Oh God, who decided this?
Ever you listen that better to do one thing good, just once?

BS!Still getting shot by invisible tanks on open ground all the time, this simply doesnt work.

Spotting is still finicky and random, with spots that make no sense and having arty 60m away without being spotted, no joke happened to me today
old video old mechanic old grafic old old old... New video new grafic pls
Necat Ergün Spotting mechanics are the same.
TL;DR spotting is virtually random, especially at 8+ tier
Basically a BS video. My Patton with 534 view range, still can't spot anything. Spotting is random at best. "new maps" have mega bushes with 3-4 layers
cryohellinc max view range is 450m
DD Os lol i guess that's why he's patton "can't spot anything"
while the max view range is 450m thats the max range you can see an enemy, you can get over that which counters camo
@DD Os
I know that, now what?
@Just Gamez
