The medals that John wore belonged to Mona Best, Pete Best mom. They were awarded to her husband. Despite firing her son from the band, she still kept in contact with the boys.
Had it not been for Mona Best ---- and her Coffee Shop ---- the British invasion would never have occurred. It's an incredible story. Perhaps someday she will be recognized.

The alternate bass drum skin (featured in this video) ended up on the wall in Paul''s Cavendish Rd house. It can be seen in a picture of Paul, John & friends which I've seen numerous times in magazines.
Paul put the solo album mccartney together he borrowed Ringos drum kit . and when Ringo got it Back the Famous Beatles Logo was not there any more ..lol story has it or so it goes so it went...
That’s what confirmed it for me. And I’m sure it will get better. Much to the chagrin of people making a living off of voiceover work. Progress I guess.
@@sjeunson1 Yes. Think about how recording technology changed the music landscape. The demand for live musicians fell dramatically. Still, it opened up other careers and we wouldn't want to go back.
A few years ago, an ensemble of four attendees at DragonCon did spot-on accurate versions of The Beatles' Sgt Pepper costumes. I marveled from the mezzanine as the crowd swirled around them taking pictures. It wasn't till I went down to the lobby for a closer view that I realized it was four women tricked out in Beatle drag! They did a great job of it.
I'd say that the album cover for Sgt. Pepper and perhaps Santana's Black Magic Woman are the 2 most visually and transitional record covers in music and cultural history. Particularly the Beatles Sgt. Pepper and totally changed the mindset of millions of people especially in the USA and Europe.
Nice job and Info. One note. While your right on Paul's big part in the album design, It has been documented that Mal Evans came up the name, not Paul. If you research --- Mal Evans was given some Royalties for the Album. Mal never took credit for it.
If you haven't done so already, be sure to compare the Sgt Pepper's album cover to Frank Zappa and the Mothers' "We're Only in It for the Money" album cover. (editted to fix typo)
Great video, pity about the Ai narration tho! I read that Mae West initially refused to allow her image to be used, saying she would never be in a lonely hearts club! The Beatles wrote her a letter explaining they were fans of hers & she then gave her consent.
If I worked on that album cover I would definitely snag a few of those cardboard figures if they were being thrown out. Maybe they will show up at auction some day.
The photo on the back of the album must be a visual pun. Though Paul is turned with his back to the camera the photograph itself is reversed. You can tell by which side their medals and braids are on. The pun being that if you flipped it around Paul would be the only one facing the camera.
Up in the back row to the far right, you see Leo Gorcey from The Bowery Boys. His photo was removed and not used on the final cut cause he demanded payment for the use of his image.
They didn't pay much for peter blakes art on cover. Or not much for the individuals pics. Mae west wasnt wanting to be on the cover until the Beatles wrote her a personal type letter ive read. Glad she accepted it.
Mae West initially refused to have her image on the cover of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, asking "why would I be in a lonely hearts club?", but changed her mind after receiving a personal letter from The Beatles! 😅
I always wondered who added Alistair Crowley? Of course, if you're going to include Adolf Hitler, it makes sense to me to include Crowley, who had an influence on Himmler
It seemed at the time; Sgt. Pepper a throwback of desperate CHAOTIC Brits’ minds, signaling the END of any willingness or ability to collaboration as “the Beatles.” But then what would I know ? I’m a Yank ! The days were chaotic and unpredictable for me. Paul was always too syrupy sweet, John so angry, down and nasty sarcastic, George a musician with appealing SOUND and Ringo keeping the beat rolling along. They needed the collaboration of their personalities to shape, pound and hammer 🔨 the music. It was good while it lasted !
lost a lot of "respect" for McCartney when i found out Mal Evans co-wrote the 'sgt pepper' theme and 'fixing a hole'. pm said putting his name on the record wouldn't "look right". Ringo verified this. Evans was never paid a dime. can one imagine how much consistent royalties that would generate these 57 years? 1/3rd of 2 songs. Mal was obsessed. imo macca a prick.
Remember "Lennon-McCartney" were under contract, at that time, I doubt they would have allowed another to be mentioned. The only exception would be Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starkey. Mal and Paul were friends ... don't listen to nasty voices.
I actually like the acoustic version of the Harrison song - within you - without you. Ringo Starr did not do the drums. Here again.

The Ai voiceover is getting better but man when it screws up it’s distracting. Nice research though.
I usually accept it as real until there is a weird pause or mispronunciation of a really common word.

I learned recently that the military medals John is wearing were family keepsakes borrowed from Mona Best, Pete's mother.
